What I don't doubt is the idea that in this day in age, ANYBODY can be brought down. Nobody is fully protected, because someone in the media would look at exposing the story as offering them more than protecting the status quo would.

I think that the entire fiasco with JoePa (who was only collateral damage and not even involved directly in the crime itself) puts the lie to the idea that Hollywood money is enough to save someone from federal prosecutors or even a very determined reporter looking to break a story, which itself involves money of a different kind. Journalists would be just as eager to dig into the incident as the studio would be to keep it secret.

Then there is the argument made by people looking to believe something that perhaps these anonymous internet stories aren't true, but something like them do occur. I don't doubt that there are many such individual incidents. How many Roman Polanskis have gotten away with crime because the victim refused to speak? But as always the conspiracy stuff carries it way too far.

The voice in their head telling them "they're fine" would probably NOT be telling them that if they weren't impaired. Everyone would agree that you shouldn't drive drunk, even those who end up doing so. But impaired judgement can lead people to believe that they're barely buzzed when moments later they side swipe a cop car, lol.

And judging by what I've read on TMZ regarding Amanda, she was one of those people. Everyone should take these Hollywood rumors with a grain of salt, no doubt. But it really puzzles me how some people are so eager to shrug it off as nonsense or being blown way out of proportion.

I mean, we're all very much aware of how religious groups have been known to dabble in pedophilia and even have higher ups in their groups do what they could to cover it up. So why these stories of people in positions of power/money/fame in Hollywood would be unbelievable to some people is mind boggling to me.

I can think of maybe 20 examples... how many child actors have existed and faded away again? Just because it's not newsworthy when a young celebrity grows up and gets a real doesn't mean it never happens. I Imagine plenty of these kids (often by their own admission) grow up with plenty of free access to drugs and sex, after the well dries up... it's tough.
