I welled up when Dom sacrificed himself to save the team in GoW3. The way the scene was done with the music and slo-mo was just really good.

Only game to ever make me cry was a VN/eroge called Kana~ little sister. Trust me on this. I'd never lie about a game making me cry and especially if it was an eroge.

Too many to count. Yakuza 2's ending comes immediately to mind. The Yakuza games in general have so many moments that get me welling up.

The scene in the first chapter of Mother 3 where Flint reacts to Hinawa's death always gets me, too. That hit me hard even when I played it for the first time in Japanese with my limited (at the time) understanding of what was being said. It's just that powerful.

Two recent games have been Trails in the Sky (that ending), and a number of moments in 999.

I cried when I finished The Neverhood, I was like 7 or 8. It took me so long to finish (puzzles were tough for someone that young) and it was just such an emotional end.

I think I've only cried out of frustration with respect to video games. Otherwise, "Crime and Punishment" and "Pan's Labyrinth." Sad for days. Can't stand either.

Favorite book and movie.

Edit: Shadow of the Colossus would probably do it, but I revere it so much for its score and aesthetic that I'm afraid to shatter the illusion by actually playing it.

Off-topic from games, but yes... anyone who watches 'Grave of the Fireflies' or 'Now and Then, Here and There' without shedding a tear is a cold son of a bitch.

Back on topic: There's probably enough nostalgia for me to be sad about Kingdom Hearts. Also, I think I might have had rage tears when my friend accidentally kicked the PS2 and I had to repeat the entire final battle. So much anger.

RPGS are the only genre that every affect me in anyway emotionally normally, but I don't ever get really sad enough to cry. I guess they just make you think a little deeper. However some games outside of RPGs really draw you in and I get upset when they are over like the Max Payne series, Halo, or Bioshock. Batman Arkam City had an ending that made you pause a moment also ;).

For what it's worth, my 'off-topic' note wasn't a criticism or a kick to the pants. It was more identifying that I was going off-topic...

Strange one:
Mario Galaxy Ending
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXGfjyPmCac
Didn't really cry, but it definitely evoked an emotional response from me similar to touching moments in movies. Spoilers for those who might care about about spoilers in a mario game..
You beat Bowser and get the last grand star. You see peach falling through the sky, mario catches her and grabs her by the hands and they twirl around as they soar through space while the amazing Gusty Garden theme plays in the background. There was just something so pure and happy about that specific moment that still gets to me whenever I watch it

The whole universe is then about to implode into a black whole and mario is watching as everything around him is getting destroyed. Mario's luma comes out from under his had and they stare at each other for a few seconds as the storybook music plays. The luma waves goodbye and then darts to the black whole, sacrificing itself to save the universe. The rest of the lumas follow, all giving their lives and becoming star dust.

It is funny how it is all so silly, yet just writing about it makes me feel 'strange'.

Wow, that's a pretty fascinating theory. Would actually have had a lot more emotional punch to it than the way the game actually went down -- and some darker meta-connotations as well.

I really did not expect to shed a tear back then at the very first dream sequence in the Lost Odyssey but damn. Such powerful writing... which quite hilariously clashed with the writing quality of the game itself.

I am easily moved though. Mass Effect 3 despite its incredibly idiotic ending managed to do this to me too. The death of Mordin and the final, heartwarming scene in Rannoch, for example, tugged my heart quite strongly.

I teared up a little during the two obvious scenes in Mass Effect 3.

Mordin's death hit me pretty hard, with the fantastic music and panicked singing as the tower falls down around him. Legion's death almost got me, just because he was my favorite character and I hated to see him go.

I got kinda sad when I was playing Pokemon in like 6th-7th grade. It was at the beginning in your own home: if you check the TV, it says something like "I guess its time for me to go off on my own journey now" or some sappy shit, it really got to me for some reason. I've never liked the thought of growing up, always makes me think of death...

Well I don't know if this counts but my power went out just now and I forgot to save my game.

And I just beat a very tough boss battle in Xenoblade and now I have to do it all over again, and I barely beat it the first time! And all the quests and items I have to do again! Shit like this makes a grown man cry ;_;

Mother 3 is the only game in existence which is acceptable to cry to while playing it. This is a fact, and most other games with intensely dramatic moments falls flat on emotional delivery in some way, even if very, very slightly.

Mother 3 is the only game that absolutely nails it. It's incredible... and it's weird to put into words. People who have played it know what I'm talking about.

Then again, this is coming from a guy who has never cried to fiction in any other setting.

The Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki.

When Ren reunites with Estelle and Joshua and they finally 'catch' her. After spending three full games hoping, the pay off was absolutely amazing. Probably one of my favorite game moments period.

Also in The Legend of Heroes: Ao no Kiseki, when it's revealed that KeA had already reset time once before to save Lloyd and the others, which was why she was fighting so hard to preserve that timeline at the end. The fact that the heroes were fated to die at the end of Zero no Kiseki fucking blew my mind and turned me into a mess. Not only was I screaming "OH GOD WAT" the whole time, I was also a tear filled mess.

Games don't really get that kind of response out of me, ever. The Kiseki series does it pretty regularly.
