Not to join the team, but Spider-Man and Thing. Basically steal the idea from that comic where Thanos defeated the Avengers, and Spider-Man and Thing showed up to set them loose. They play really well off each other.

Avengers had the best action scenes in a comic book film since Spiderman 2. I was really impressed by them.

I guess the reactions to TDKR should be expected given this is an Avengers thread, but for what it's worth I enjoyed TDKR a lot more than I enjoyed Avengers, and I loved The Avengers.

My first thought when TDKR ended was, "This movie makes Avengers look like a cartoon." I'm a sucker for gritty superhero movies.

TDKR was fucking sloppy though. I liked the film but God-damn it was nowhere near as tight a film as the first two in the trilogy. Great ending though, last 5 minutes made up for the first hour of shit.

Avengers had much much better action scenes but overall I enjoyed TDKR more. However I certainly wasn't expecting it to be so close a call a few months ago.

Why is there any DKR discussion on here? They're on two different ends of the spectrum with what you can do with a superhero movies. I loved both movies, and I would never rank them because in my head, they aren't comparable. It's like comparing Friday the 13th to The Exorcist because they're both horror movies.

I saw Avengers 3 times in the theatres, and DKR twice. So if my money is my opinion, there ya go.

I watched both movies twice on IMAX. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHICH MOVIE IS SUPERIOR?

I had way more "fun" with The AVengers, but will own both movies on blu-ray Day 1.

It would be interesting to see how a major flop would influence the MCU. Up to this point all films have done extremely well and have also been well received, some more than others. At this point however, I think the MCU has enough forward momentum to recover if any of the new movies are met with bad reviews.

No Black Panther? That's lousy. He feels like a shoe-in, he'd translate perfectly to the screen. That's a shame. I hope he makes the cut by the second movie.

People are pretty down on Falcon, but he can control all birds, see through their eyes wherever they are, and also fly. To be honest, I feel like he's a blank enough slate to really shine on film if he's cast well (Donald Glover). He's not a fan favourite because he doesn't have much of a personality in the comics, but he has an interesting power set and a ton of potential in the MCU. He's like the opposite of Hawkeye.

So the Ant-Man movie is definitely going ahead? I thought it was back up in the air. Edgar Wright makes great movies, but I didn't love his pitch for Ant-Man. If he has to use Scott Lang, I hope he's a much more peripheral character than Wright suggested. I'd like the film to focus on Hank and Janet, and leave us with a post-breakdown Pym ready to join the Avengers along with the Wasp. I like Scott well enough in the comics, but I don't want him to replace Hank in the MCU.

How is it on repeat watches? I remember disliking the first half but the movie really came on its own by the end. Superbly directed action segments, there.

I actually enjoyed it more the second and third time around. It's just a fun, satisfying comic book movie. I can't wait to watch it on blu-ray at home with some snacks and a beer or two. I have a feeling this is going to be one of those feel-good movies that you just never get tired of watching.

Yeah, it was mentioned in the Avengers movie artbook (don't have mine on me right now, but I believe I read about it there). I honestly thought imdb was kidding about listing him, but the artbook, as well as a few other sources confirmed it.

I'm more amused by the fact that there are so many actors involved in The Avengers that have already worked with Joss. Hell, I nearly forgot Renner worked with Joss on one episode of Angel until I saw the episode in question again.

I can't say I disliked it at any point but I was pretty neutral about it during my second viewing; knowing all the beats took away from the suspense factor that kept me in the first time around. Pretty much nothing got a reaction out of me, though I did enjoy watching the reactions of the friends I was with who hadn't seen the movie before then.

Sadly, it really loses quite a bit from that first watch. Going opening weekend with the huge audience and reaction was part of the enjoyment. When I saw again in a smaller theater, the first half really really trudged along. You'll still probably like the action stuff, but part of the experience was definitely seeing it towards the beginning of its run.

Attaché Company Attacks Marvel, Alleging Avengers Infringement

Quote:
German luxury travel-case maker Rimowa claims in a federal lawsuit that the packaging for the forthcoming Blu-ray box set of the Marvel Entertainment hit movie Avengers is an unauthorized knock-off of its Topas attaché case.

The “Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One — Avengers Assembled Box Set” comes in a briefcase that looks like the one used by Samuel L. Jackson’s character, Nick Fury, in the movie. The German luxury concern said it supplied Marvel with a genuine attaché for the blockbuster movie, but did not grant permission to make plastic replicas.

fxguide's recap of the Siggraph Avengers production panel:

Quote:
One of the most popular sessions on Monday was the Avengers session. We have covered the film extensively, but this session which was partly a repeat of FMX, was completely packed with making of clips, reference material and even blooper reels from this blockbuster film. The panel was made up of two speakers from each of ILM and Weta. Some highlights included the last section on the actual character animation of the fight between Thor and Iron Man in the forest. This large and complex sequence has many technical aspects, but it was seeing the developments and subtle work in animated the characters, from analyzing hundreds of comics to see how Iron Man’s hips and shoulders align in most poses, or – how he flies posed very symmetrically but fights posed exactly the opposite, right through to the use of motion capture and physics sims to inform the animators and allow them to better understand what might happen - even if the motion capture is never directly used. It was brilliant.

It must be weeks of work to build up the making of reels that show how ILM created NY and animated the characters fighting and destroying it, or how the Hulk evolved and was animated, but the audience seemed to really appreciate the effort and soak up every last before and after wipe
.
Hopefully all those making-of reels make it on the home release.

Saw it enough times in theaters (in US) and you could see the bloodied blade end sticking out of Coulson's chest after being stabbed.

You can find the scene on youtube. The bloody blade was there in the theatrical version I saw, also 3 times.
