Love the new client. Only pisser is the URL isn't obfuscated like it was on secondapps so it's now blocked at work. Damnit.

Is it possible to get this and prime back on the neogaf.net as a mirror instead of a redirect? Our web filter didn't block that :)

Its a little weird for me. Normal gaf loads first and then about halfway through that load, it reloads into mobile Gaf.

What phone browser are you using? I think ckohler has a white list of mobile browser user agents and if they're not on that list, you'll be directed to standard GAF. This is to avoid desktop users from using the mobile App.

I'm assuming you're accessing it directly from neogaf.com? If so, that's what happened to me too. You'll need to access it directly through m.neogaf.com to avoid the redirect.

the ads still aren't displayed on my phone (IE9, WP7)

basically when I load a page there's a white box and then it disappears after a second and I only see the black cloth background.

This has probably been asked and answered already, but how come when I tap on the "view last post" arrow it takes me to the last page, not the last post? The old version of Neogaf mobile did it too, but it was fixed on the mockup. But then this new version seems to have broken it again. Makes it kida annoying to check up on threads when it isn't taking me directly to the first new post.

In my preferences I have set it to not show pictures or animations, this feature seems buggy though, as sometimes a picture or animation does show. It has only happened a few times, but I still thought I would post about it. When it happens the animation or pic's tend to load as the page loads, so unless I click on the 'show pic' button before its visible I dont think I accidently clicked somewhere I shouldn't have.

Re-set it in preferences. Mine did the same thing when Evilore set last page to default.

For various reasons we have to use JavaScript to do the redirect. I'll remember to check if next time we tweak things we can make this work a bit smoother though,

It needs to be enabled to view mobile gaf, doesn't it? Because there is no way for me to confirm if its enabled or not on this phone. So I don't know, sorry.

I can only assume its enabled by default since I'm automatically redirected to mobile gaf.

When you tap the preferences, they should change. Just try tapping them (not swiping or anything) and the image indicating it is on or off should change. Even if the image doesn't change, just try tapping and then clicking the Logo in the upper right and see what happens. It might just not be showing it take.

Youre right that JavaScript is enabled on your phone. Also, the script I'm using to set the preferences is incredibly basic. So, if your phone's browser can't handle it.. Ugh.

I've tried swiping and pressing the on/off toggles to no avail. This is using the standard ie for the phone. I also note it won't display any ads either, so I don't know if that is related.

In any case I can still see gifs, they still crash my browser too. :(

Not sure what the cause is but I sometimes don't have any ads displayed in Safari while browsing on my iPad. They sometimes just don't load and I end up having a blank dark velvet area instead. I've tried to pinpoint the trigger, be it load intensive threads or otherwise but no luck. Maybe it's a connection issue on my end but I don't think so since the threads themselves load properly.

It happens infrequently (maybe 5 times total) but figured I'd just mention it since the reason we have this officially now is the ads in the first place so they should be working proper.

It no longer jumps to the last entry and it's taking forever to load any sports thread. That is probably due to images however it wasn't a problem in the secondapp iteration.

I'm using Atomic browser on a 4s, just fyi. It looks great and is feature packed but that isn't as big a deal as having to scroll down because it takes me to the middle of the page. It's especially annoying in sports threads since it takes forever to load the whole thread.

PM doesn't work for me (iOS/iCab/iPad). Even when I click on a member's profile and the "send a Pm to this member" the recipient field stays empty and it seems I have to add it manually, but in the end there's no trace of my message in the "sent PMs" folder.

I've also got a problem with "performance" as I've stated before, it seems more memory hungry since it shuffles a lot even with 2 or 3 tabs open, while with mockup/sa I could open even 5 pages with a similar amount of images.

Have you tried using Safari? Maybe iCab doesn't like the ads and/or too much javascript slows it down. Also, I see that iCab supports some kind of compression/proxy stuff. Maybe try turning that off. But honestly, I think the performance problems you're describing have more to do with iCab than anything. I'm not hearing any performance complaints from other iPad users and I'm assuming they're using Safari.

The default behavior for the arrows was changed. To have it go to the first unread, you have to set that in the Preferences.

Originally Posted by eznark: View Post

Try disabling images/avatars in the threads to speed it up. What you're experiencing isn't a bug with the web app. It's just a fact of life on mobile devices. These browsers aren't as fast as desktops. Also, if you choose to use the "jump to first unread" feature, keep in mind that it will jump you there but also HOLD YOU THERE, until the entire page finishes loading. So if you try to scroll away before it's done, you'll probably be snapped back up when another image loads. This is just a fact of life on mobile browsers.

Also, there weren't ADs on the mockup before. Now there are. (Yes, there was Bike Wheels image but that wasn't a real ad being delivered by Google). So performance will be slightly less than it was on the secondapps mockup because real ads are being displayed now. Frankly, using Safari on my iPhone, I've barely noticed a difference in performance aside from the ad taking longer to load than the placeholder image I was using before which is to be expected.

Yeah, my point was that it was working great and not chugging to load pages prior to the launch of the mobile site. Maybe it's the ads I guess. Honestly I'm disappointed to hear it's not a bug. At least then you could fix it, but I'm assuming no matter how much of a performance hit the ads create they won't be tweaked.

Same here, except the text ads that have the blue box with an arrow in on their right side do show up. Also, as someone else reported, sometimes a white rectangle flashes up where the ad should be. This is on Android 4.0.4 with the latest Opera Mobile from the Play Store.

The problem is with Opera. If you go to MSNBC.com, you'll get the same thing. They too use Google Mobile AdChoices.

I just tested Opera Mobile on my iPhone and while most of the web app works, it has a few crappy inadequacies all of which are the fault of the browser. For one, it doesn't support the line-height CSS property which means a bunch of the buttons aren't the right size. Second, doing anything that is dynamic and normally instantaneous on a webkit browser, like clicking to show/hide the quick menu, takes like five seconds and performs a full page load while other Javascript events like clicking the blue bar to scroll down to the bottom (window.scrollTo) doesn't work at all.

You guys will find a much better experience on a more robust Webkit browser like Safari or the default Android browser.

It was only designed for use with smartphones. If you have just an old style feature phone, it likely won't work. Besides, surfing on those would be torture anyway.

Secondapps worked perfectly on my Nokia feature phone with images disabled. I've since upgraded to a smartphone so I have no idea how new mobile performs however.

Will use Dolphin browser so; it shows ads correctly, strange opera doesn't.
