Flowers, and breeding various colors plays a pretty big role. I wouldn't be surprised to see planting, whether it's flowers, trees, crops, or something, expanded upon.

What makes Animal Crossing great is it simplicity. So, as much as I love Harvest Moon I feel like Animal Crossing would just suffer from a farming system.

I agree. Though I was OBSESSED with getting blue and black flowers in WW. I then would bring them into my house so they never died. Dunno why but man I was addicted to that.

My mom had black flowers everywhere, and would plant one in each of our houses. She was more obsessed with CF than I was, collecting every fish and bug (except for the scorpion which she still talks about catching one day). When I finally get around to buying me a red 3DS I'm going to give her my black one and a copy of Animal Crossing so she can visit my town and help me out with my town rating. "What ma? Using you?! Noooo I enjoy having you here." heheheheh.

I don't think I'll get as hyped for this as I did Uprising. :) Uprising had me hyped in every way -- the franchise revival, all of the new characters, the action, the director -- and it delivered on every front. With this game, I'm expecting more like the best iteration of an already familiar formula. I skipped City Folk -- only played a bit of a family member's copy -- but loved AC on the GameCube and DS. So I'm looking forward to this latest AC. :)

Remember when you found yourself aboard an empty night train? Headed towards a foreign town, with only a crazy cat to talk to - Before you know it, you're gritting teeth and trying to make a livin' - it was about survivin'. That darn raccoon clerk who made you work overtime; he surprises you, he was nice enough to get you a house. It was about trying to settle in with these crazy animal neighbors runnin' round. The cold, sleepless nights in that empty wooden space you found yourself in, with nothing more than a box and a lamp... Eventually, you learned to find warm comfort in an old turtle's soft chuckle, Saturday night dog music, owl-brewed coffee served at 176 degrees...

In a future sequel, I'd really love to have the option to move into a village in a different climate and location. There's a lot of possibilities for the franchise to improve upon. The mayor spin and the bigger customization has me excited about this one though.

Any word yet if we'll be able to import our catalogs/items again from the DS game?
My introduction to the series was Wild World, LOVE that game, so many memories and I still boot it up once in awhile before I go to sleep. I just want them to make it easier to join villages, hopefully they'll give us Mario Kart style communities. Also, one thing that drove me nuts was you'd make friends with an Animal (my BFF was Rosie, I stalker begged her to stay so many times) and then when they moved back they'd forgotten about you and you had to start all over again, hope they fix this (never played City Folk so don't know if it was the same).

I don't think that comparison stands at all. Animal Crossing's "sequels" would be more like if the DS Mario Kart had been a Mario Kart 64 rerelease with better textures and 2 new tracks. And then the Wii one would be yet another 64 rerelease but with a few item additions and a single new cup. There's keeping the characteristic elements of a franchise, and then there's keeping rereleasing the same game over and over again with minor new additions. Animal Crossing has been the later so far.

Those who hate it when people claim AC is the same game over and over, how could you not be disappointed when you play the series and have an epiphany about certain ways it could evolve...only to be greeted with pretty much the same game again with no real vision and certainly nothing that makes me feel like I'm missing out if I don't play the newest game.

That's easy: Because I like to play Animal Crossing and there's only ever 1 per system.
I don't feel this emotion called disappointment when I play. I'm fine with the slow gradual change as long as it's one per system. If they start CoD'ing it, then i've got problems. And to see all the changes, you won't see all of them until you play through a full year anywho (unless you know, you time skip with the OS).

I am so fucking hyped for this. Handheld Animal Crossing is best Animal Crossing. I can't wait to become best friends with every "grumpy" neighbor only to feel legit devastated when they move away.

But knowing how much I play my 3DS/DS compared to my Wii I think I'll go for the 3DS version rather than the theoretical WiiU version. |

This game however, looks like a nice change, and it's the first one to use textures that don't look like exact carbon copies of the previous games. You could compare this series to games like The Sims which don't change that much in appearance, but they certainly could add new things to make the gameplay more interactive. It does seem like that's what they are doing now though. |

ITT: Animal Crossing-GAF at it's best.
I can't wait to indulge myself in the full details regarding this installment, and I wish Nintendo would be more swift with revealing them. 4 screenies won't do at this point, even after revealing non-bench outdoor furnishings and a clear-cut confirmation of multiple shops and shop-keepers! |

I bought City Folk hoping for a similar experience. I for one did not object to the similarity between WW and CF, and looked forward to DLC and customizing a whole new town. But it never quite stuck with me. The difference is portability. Essential to this game, if you ask me. Hook it to my veins. |

Basically for me it's about interacting with animals (either by selling them stuff or talking to them non-stop until they get mad) or play with my friends or family. Mostly though, I find myself getting money by myself and just buying the best stuff. It's a bit weird to me that this is the only series that ever really makes me spend hours upon hours trying to figure out what I can do to make maximum profits on my time spent. Without a doubt, there's days I spend like 2 hours getting fruits from trees and selling them. Then like another 2 hours fishing for the best fish and clearing my first floor at my house so I can lay the fish down and prepare for the flea market. Then like and hour of catching bugs (this bores me the most, so I try not to spend too much time on it). Edit: Oh and turnips!!! Wonderful turnips to sell :P |

Also, alot of the 'evolution' i remember reading about would make AC more of a sim and game-y and less like the weird, fun house museum that it is. |

A preview on some official Nintendo magazine stated that it will possible, for example, to color furniture and even modify them! As for the house, you can change the letter box and the pale.

Seriously hope they don't make us wait months after the Japanese release. I hate when they do that. |

I can't wait for this game. The two 3d trailers from past E3s are probably my two most watched videos my 3ds. I'm one of those AC fans that can pour over a video or screenshot to spot all the changes/returning characters etc.
In regards to this debate about change vs. not I'm excited to see how swimming plays out and if it adds anything substantial to the game. The town layout seems larger than the past games so I'm hoping for some new buildings as well. The game looks really good so far and I'm eager to revisit AC but seeing as how Nintendo has revealed very little about the game so far, I hope they've got some awesome new features to show off at E3. |

We need to get a real console Pokemon game on consoles before we say crazy stuff like that!!
It's better as a portable game. There's almost no denying that. But could also benefit from consoles too since there's people like me who almost never battle online. |

Same goes for Animal Crossing, even though of course it started on consoles. I played the DS version for 200 hours, the Wii version little over 20. |

Really looking forward to this game. I had a pretty good time with City Folk, but I'm pretty sure what made me love Wild World so much was the handheld factor. Plus the additions look pretty nice.
What I'd really, really like to see the series do is allow advanced interaction for certain items. More or less, add minigames to items where it makes sense to do so. For example, you should be able to play the arcade game, or the darts board, or the pool table. I always felt like that'd be a good way to make certain items feel super valuable and interesting ala the NES games. Oh, and more storage space would be nice as I'm a pack-rat and I always run into issues with that. |

DLC is nice but I hope it is stuff you need to work for. I'm not too keen on DLC just being stuff they give you.
DLC I would like to see would be something like "Mach Boots". Boots that let you run a bit faster but first you have to do some relay races against villagers first or something to get it. |

Would be nice if they give you GB or GBC games for your birthday.
I don't expect over the top AI, just something where they at least comment about what you mentioned in a note. |
