Fighting Games Weekly | April 23-29 #1

Added a calendar section detailing some of the upcoming events for May. Do not miss next week. A LOT of events coming next week, in Japan, Australia and the US, so be on the look-out.

Didn't work on the event descriptions like I wanted to last week, maybe I'll get around to it this time.

Events are in approximate order of start time. Note that events may be added/removed/updated as more information becomes available. If you have info on upcoming events for the week, or a stream you think should be featured, feel free to make a post below or send a PM.

Last week's thread (April 16-22)

APRIL 23 - 29

SPECIAL EVENTS

The fan vote for KVOxGODSGARDEN is open. Remember every 24 hours your votes are refreshed, so be sure to vote everyday. Click here to vote.

April 28 Tokyo Game Night is bringing you STRIKE.1, a SoulCalibur V event. There will be a double-elimination singles tournament as well as a 10on10 team battle between SC DREAM Team, led by Plasma and Altena, and the Gaming Celebrity Team, led Hameko and Fuudo. There will also be a character creation contest, with viewer participation. The tournament is scheduled to start at 7PM JST (UTC +9, 6AM EDT) and is planned to stream on Ustream and TwitchTV, with an English stream also planned.

MLG is holding the Spring Fighter Arena on April 28 in New York City. The event will feature both Mortal Kombat and SoulCalibur V, with the Top 8 placers from the Winter Championship competing in each game.
Quote:
The Fighter Arena will be broadcast LIVE online via two streams, beginning Saturday, April 28 at 2:00pm ET.

Stream 1 will feature constant gameplay cast by Juicebox Abel, Tom Brady, and Bibulous. SD viewing will be free and HD viewing passes will be available soon for $4.99.
The Dr Pepper Ultimate Access stream, hosted by Gootecks, will be free all weekend long and will feature behind-the-scenes coverage, interviews and more.
Be sure to watch this weekend.

April 28-29 in Japan is the first Tougeki 2012 qualifier, Cho Tougeki. Taking place at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan as part of the Nico Nico Cho Kaigi, this special qualifier will feature all six of the arcade titles (no qualifiers for the console games):
April 28
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Ver.2012
Virtua Fighter5 Final Showdown
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike

April 29
Aquapazza
Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited
Though most of the Tougeki games this year are team competitions, all of the qualifiers at Cho Tougeki will be singles tournaments. SSFIV AE (and SSFIV AE only) will have a double-elimination format. The winners of each the respective qualifiers are allowed to choose their teammates, and earn a spot in the finals tournament, skipping the block qualifiers that are usually played.

On April 29 there will also be an SSFIV AE concept match event featuring Fuudo, MDR, Haitani, Mago, Tokido, Kazunoko, Uryo, Momochi, Umehara and Nuki. Unfortunately, the concept matcheswill not be streamed.

Being a part of a Nico Nico event, naturally the stream will be on Nico Live. This event (as well as Tougeki 2012) will be free to watch. You must have a Nico Nico account in order to watch Nico Live streams. Check here to register.

The Road to EVO continues with Civil War 4, April 28-29. The location is Richmond, Virgina, so expect to see some of the less known talent from the South competing. Here's a list of the official tournaments:

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift EXTEND
The King of Fighters XIII
Mortal Kombat
Skullgirls
SoulCalibur V
Street Fighter X Tekken
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Ver.2012
Tekken 6
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

The event will be streamed by Team Sp00ky.

Ah man - that is awesome. I still haven't gone to an EVO and I'll have to miss this year too. Just got on full-time with a company and won't have vacation days 'til the end of August. :(

Anyway, great work USD. Another great hub for the week. :P

Added a registration link for EVO in the calendar section. Why not.

Also, don't want to pimp something I posted myself, but check out the comments section of the article, Taitsu wrote a bunch of profiles for some of the players he's familiar with that will be featured at KVOxGODS.

There's gonna be a small tournament at Daicon this saturday for Marvel, SFxT, and SF4, among other games. FinestKO is gonna be streaming it, plus I'll probably be showing up.

Just in case anyone is interested, of course.

That actually makes it harder in my opinion. If you want to completely watch both, you'll basically have to stay up all day May 5 and 6. By the time one is ending, the other is starting and vice versa.

Just like Busaiku said, they're not really over lapping each other. All this means is that you should prepare for 72 straight hours of stream monstering. No sleep for FGC-GAF that weekend.

I'll be going to EVO this year. Gonna sign up for KOF13 for my free tshirt/bodying! I mainly just want to be in the room for all the grand finals. I've been stream monstering so long I want the real deal.
If you're more worried about good seats rather than playing on the last day then be prepared to have to be there in the morning and have your seats saved by friends so others don't take it. That's what Gods Beard did last year and he got some pretty good seats. I unfortunately came around 1-2 pm and nearly all the seats had been taken already. I mean that literally as I had to find seats in the final 3-4 rows out of the 30 or so that were there. If the MGM is anything like the RIO, there won't be enough seats to accommodate everybody as hundreds of people watched the finals on there feet or while sitting on the floor. I remember the EVO staff having to constantly tell people to clear the aisle because it was a safety hazard.

Good luck to you guys though. I really wished I could have gone this year, but the dates conflict with my job(I don't get 4th of July week off). I have vacation, but that's a very popular week to take off so I'm much too far down the seniority list to get it. I really wished the EVO staff would just pick a obscure date away from July 4th weekend because if they keep going this route, then I'll never be able to attend EVO as long as I work at my current job.

Yes, in fact you must be a member to watch streams on Nico Live. It's much easier to register than it was a few years ago, since there are English instructions now. For anyone who hasn't registered yet:

Thanks for the heads up. My friend Rowell (got in top 32 in Marvel 3 last year) has been going a couple years (going with him this year) and told me the same thing. So yeah, I plan on being there urley on Sunday to get good seats.

If Skullgirls does make it onto the EVO lineup then Reverge/Autumn are gonna make the most SWAG custom sticks ever.

This entire post is insanity.

All of it.
