Yeah, I was always baffled by that. It felt like something had happened behind the scenes and he burned his bridges or something.

I kinda think Ray Liotta might qualify too. I mean the dudes been in hundreds of movies the past decade, but nothing of note really.. just really shitty b parts

Surely the same can be said for most of the LOTR cast, except Orlando Bloom for Pirates. Doesn't matter about Elijah anyway, because he was in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which is a better movie than any of the LOTRs.

When you've had one leg amputated due to diabetes and have been told you might have to have the other one taken off, then I could see why you'd want to kill yourself.

Ian McKellen? What? Some of the suggestions here are deeply weird. McKellen is like our greatest living stage actor who also decided to star in one of the most popular movies ever, practically on a whim. (See: Guinness, Sir Alec) Others are decades-long actors who likely semi-retired after making millions in their prime (Christopher Lloyd, the cast of Seinfeld, Richards' meltdown notwithstanding). And almost everyone else are A-list actors choosing whatever project they feel so inclined to act in, or not.
Wes Bentley is a great example of someone who seemed like the next big thing and then dropped off the face of the earth for a decade. But nobody churns out twenty blockbuster smashes in a row as a career except for Tom Cruise and Will Smith.

I think the problem is Hollywood, limited roles for black men, and the fact that Morgan Freeman has "older black guy" locked up, Denzel has "middle-aged black guy" locked up, and Will Smith has "younger "cool" black guy" locked up. Sometimes someone like Jamie Foxx gets a great role like Ray, but outside of that, what special roles has he had?
Cuba just has limited options because Hollywood doesn't do very many movies with a black lead. He won an Oscar playing a football player. Cracked did a feature awhile back on Hollywood's issues and this was one of them. |

I'll go with my go-to: Clive Owen. Seriously, wtf? He was EVERYWHERE for a while there...
And Matthew Perry just did a stint on The Good Wife and has *another* sitcom coming to NBC. Btw, his Mr. Sunshine was GREAT, so screw all of you who didn't watch it.

She did everything to escape her super conservative small-town parents and has dealt very well with the shitstorm when her "career" in porn was brought to daylight over here. |

Meg Ryan. She was huge in the 80/90's, guaranteed to be a huge star, instead she hasn't done anything of interest in years.
Sleepless in Seattle seemed to be the beginning of the end, it cemented her cutesy love interest role and she killed her career trying to escape it.

I've been saying that since day one. It would be so awesome if the give him some small role in Breaking Bad.
I was really glad that this didn't prevent her from getting a role on the show

An actor has a hit and then disappear after a few turkeys is the norm for actors.
What amaze me are some actors who were in so many big movies and still couldn't secure decent B-list careers afterward. My favorite example is Orlando Bloom. Look at the movies he had been in between 2001 - 2007. 3 LotR movies 3 Pirates movies where he was arguable the leading man. Kingdom of Heaven, holy shit this is a fucking masterpiece. I know he tried a couple romantic comedy leading man and failed. But he should be able to get in decent B action movies. And yet he can't get work in any movie you have heard of. Amazing! |
