Starhawk - The Weight of Battle new trailer #1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xi6WOoH6vfQ
Looking really good.

New previews:

Thesixthaxis hands on
Quote:
The mission begins with Emmett following a local sheriff to an outpost so it’s time to saddle up a Sidewinder speeder bike (fans of coincidences: there is a speeder bike in Star Wars called Starhawk) and put the peddle to the metal and your jaw to the floor. The build I played was still in development but the differences between the first reveal last year and even the multi player beta from a few months back are noticeable.

The bike is fast and so is the frame rate, which is silky smooth. The draw distances are impressive and the graphics are gorgeous – and we are talking Uncharted-style ‘stop on top of a mountain and just admire the view’ gorgeous, not just ‘quite nice’. I could have spent all my time just zooming about on the bike, racing across the sandy plains with a huge planet in the sky.
Quote:
You have probably played the beta so there is little point me going over old ground but there is one thing I will say: that this feels and plays like a single player game, not something that has been cobbled together from bits of the multi player.
http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2012/04/...-campaign-ps3/

Nowgamer hands-on
Quote:
Plus, the Outcast AI is aggressive. Taking a significant amount of bullet to kill, Outcast soldiers will rush and flank in large numbers, skirting around cover and getting up in your face until you die from it. Complacency is definitely not an option in Starhawk.

To help in your efforts, you are given a huge payload of guns. Starting off with a pistol, Emmett can also unload burst fire from the Kinect Rifle, a barrage of free fire or lock-on shots from the M.A.W rocket launcher, and melt faces with his Rift energy-charged shotgun.

Ammo is never scare, but thankfully so, given the sheer numbers of Outcast you will face during each defence wave. You can even hop on a Sidewinder speederbike and dart among packs of enemies, blasting your pistol with one free hand.

Starhawk’s gunplay is fluid, fast and never feels unresponsive. There is a slight lock-on effect when aiming down sights, but it doesn’t make the game too easy. It’s more for picking off targets far across Dust’s wide-open expanses.
Quote:
With razor sharp visuals, an involving plot and the three gameplay styles we’ve covered so far, Starhawk’s campaign isn’t just a flash in the pan. While many gamer will likely pick the game up just for its online offering, we’d argue that this would be a huge oversight.

If anything, you should check out Starhawk’s single player to wrap your head around it all works. If you still have your doubts, just consider it the most generous and engaging tutorial you’ve ever played.

I'd never thought I'd be more excited for the single player.

Can we co-op the the whole campaign or is it crappy siege mode?

Sadly it will. The free public beta barely had any buzz. Doesn't leave alot of hope for a $60 game.

That makes no sense. It's not unusual for people to put 100+ hours in an MP game. And even then, the SP in Starhawk looks solid enough.

What's with Sony exclusives and motion comics? It's just lazy and clashes with the rest of the game, knock it off.

This looks awesome but also get the feeling this is gonna bomba. There's like zero buzz around this title. What the hell is it with Sony sending games to die? Do they not want to make some money back on this huge ass investments on these games? I just don't get it!

I'm sad to say that this is the case for me as well.

I only played when the beta was very new, with the small maps and not with all vehicles yet.

Is it still running?

I love that Sony has loads of ips, but when they're not successful, it does more harm than good.

-Developers make linear, "cinematic" games this gen.
-Gaf grow tired of such games. Complain.
-Developer of linear games sees the light. Wants to make more open games.
-Gaf bows at said developer's comments. Still complain about linear games.
-Meanwhile, LBI has been in production on the most open shooter on the market. Gaf complains.
-Not dudebro enough?

I've had my issues, but the game is still a very looked forward to game in my book. Knowing I can boot this up for quick fun with a different experience everytime is fucking awesome.

God of War has always used a mix of CG, realtime looking cutscenes, and 2D semi-animated sequences. I wouldn't lump it into the "motion comics" bunch.

When throughout the entire production of the game the developer goes over to the Warhawk community and teases that they'll really like what they're making next and then a couple years later announce the game and use the term "Warhawk Successor" to market it only for you to finally get your hands on experience and realize that there is almost nothing about it that resembles Warhawk, then yeah it's a little disappointing.

That being said this new trailer looks good. Much needed because the past couple trailers were garbage.

I got bored with the beta and never went back (didn't play the 3rd map or with any of the new vehicles) and while I felt B&B wasn't implemented as well as it could be I did feel that the game play had promise. I doubt I will end up putting a significant amount of time into MP unless there have been some deep changes and/or the larger maps prove to be game changers.

Incognito proved to be very good at listening and responding to users and Lightbox seems the same so they have my money even if it only turns out to be a gesture of support in the end.

Will this have an online pass? I recently picked up a second copy of Warhawk so that I could play over LAN at gatherings (as all of my friends missed out on that piece of gold) but this type of MP seems to be archaic in the minds of most developers these days.

I'm pretty certain they made sure to hint that it was different as well. I don't remember exact details. They said what they're working should please warhawk fans. That, to me, means they were working on a game that featured similar tidbits that warhawk established. They didn't make a cod clone, a sci-fi horror game, a mascot platformer etc. They made a third person, vehicle centric shooter on open maps.

What more do you want, an actual warhawk clone? Well, yeah, we all probably want that but that wasn't their intention. Sure, there's room for improvement but damn, this game's flaws are still unique feature sets in this day and age of fps dominated online gaming. Color me excited. It goes well with my shoes =P.
