I was a follower of the Smiths back in the day and played No more heroes on Gamecube - although I've yet to make it through the last levels - and recking my brains I can't think of any Smiths-related reference, apart perhaps from some characters' hairstyles.
Maybe I was dumb and didn't notice these references, or maybe just forgot about it since I haven't played it for ages, so could you please help me out and give me some hints? |

Yeah, my thoughts exactly, but I gather it's not easy getting anywhere close to him in the backstage of his gigs, even for journalists, and maybe Morrissey doesn't play videogames and couldn't be bothered to meet them.

Great band, even though some tracks of theirs were a tad depressing, to say the least, still they were great - Decades is one of my favourites - by the way to be honest I like Ian Curtis obscure lyrics much more than the Smiths' ones.

Or you could have your girlfriend put in in her purse. But if you are the sort of person that wear's a band's shirt to the band's concert then you might not have a girlfriend. |

Not wearing a band shit to their concert is like not wearing a jersey to the team you're watching play. Also, fuck buying shirts after the show. Unless it's a smaller venue, they're always jam packed or sold out. I think I have like 1 band shirt anyway lol U2 Vertigo tour - bought it at MSG Actually I have a Cure shirt as well but I had that before I went to see them.

Ah, you're right, my bad! :P
Actually I meant to write down Killer 7 - in fact that was the game being discussed -, but since I've played both games - of course respectively Killer 7 on Gamecube and No more heroes on Wii, and I still have both - I got them mixed up when I typed it, and now I can see what happened in my brain. It's something curious as this sort of things occur to me very often, and if one thinks about it, human brain is no much different from a computer's OS: even if you are not aware of it there's always some processes running in the background - when you're dreaming as well -, multitasking indeed!

Great photo. I love Suda's games, he takes Kojima's talent for the surreal, conspiracy, storyline presentation and theatrical boss experiences, and dials it all up to eleven. I like the idea that they are mates for some reason.
The plot and presentation of Killer 7 is like Metal Gear Solid 1-3 on supercocaine.

Yeah, although I must admit I liked his first solo album, Viva hate, his music is not that great, and I will never stress out enough how the other members of group who deserve much more credit, especially Johnny Marr who was an amazing and creative musician; speaking of which just listen at him playing guitars in Greetings to the new brunette by Billy Bragg, its arpegios are pure Smiths.

He wouldn't want to meet them..as much as I love the smiths music and some of Mor's solo stuff, its pretty much common knowledge at this point he doesn't think to highly of non-whites. He's actually quite brazen about it. :(

Why would you buy a shirt to a concert you're at and then not wear it? It's much more convenient to put it on over whatever you're wearing so that you don't have to hold it. Like honestly, you're at a fucking rock show. There's not much room for etiquette when half the pit is drunk off their asses.

Well, at the very least I find it pretty interesting that two of the most outstanding Japanese video-game personalities retain such Western cultural influences, and specifically that they're so into Madchester's '80s musical scene, and this says possibly a lot about Kojima and Suda's cultural background, that has probably affected somehow their output.

Don't take me quite so seriously :P It's no worse than say, wearing black socks with shorts or having a fanny pack.
I hear that the pit at Morrisey shows is pretty brutal. |

I disagree. His games are so divisive I can understand them not being liked by some people, of course.
I loved Killer 7 and No More Heroes, really great games in my opinion. The former in particular is kind of awe-inspiring in its lack of any attempt to conform to everything else the industry was doing at the time. There's still nothing out there like it. His games aren't perfect, and I have no problem with people not liking them. But all in all, I think they're bloody marvelous. |

they just haven't earned yet, baby
I thought Morrissey's xenophobic tendencies were long gone, I mean he's got a far larger latino following than skinhead now

My view is that Suda hasn't reached Kojima's strongest moment (MGS3), but I enjoyed Killer7 and No More Heroes 1/2 considerably more than Metal Gear Solid 4. Given Kojima's inconsistent quality at present, I'm not certain what exactly is meant by his present "level". Regarding Kojima - I adored MGS2 surreal-ness, the sheer madness that the game becomes leads to an extremely powerful, memorable narrative and ending. It understood the strength of asking questions over providing clear-cut answers. It was an experience that stuck with me, and provoked discussion and debate. It was remarkable. Killer 7 and (to a somewhat lesser degree) No More Heroes did that, a lot, and proved to be all the more enjoyable and inspiring because of the surreal and abstract qualities that permeate the experiences. MGS4 went the opposite way, an obsessive misjudged quest to rationalise and explain all developments leaving little to the imagination of the player. It was all answers and no questions, and an unfortunate blip in Kojima's quality. To me, it remains to be seen if Kojima's "level" is simply not what it was, or if he was just having a bad moment with MGS4. Sorry, going a bit off topic. They're awesome devs, the two of them, and I'm glad they are mates.

He was very, very nice to everyone when he was being swamped by press and fans at PAX. Can't say how much of a joy he is in the office, but he was a really nice guy to me and my friends and he almost always answers his twitter.
