It's a prequel story-wise, but also kind of a remake (Music is remixed from the NES version). Pros:
Cons:
I beat it 2 times already, each time taking about 12 hours (in-game-clock says differently, but it doesn't count all your failed attempts). Despite it's flaws, it's still an enjoyable game and satisfied my longing for a Metroid-like game at the time.

Unfortunately a patch can't really fix the uninspired level design and lack of compelling enemies... :( At least the remixed music was cool. I really wanted to like Overdrive. It was just so average. |

Sadly, no patch was ever released. And while I agree on the levels looking boring compared to the original Blaster Master, I tried to look past that (knowing of the Wiiware size limitations) and tried to remember games like Metroid 1 or 2. Those levels looked all the same as well, but the games could still be engaging. But yeah, it could have been so much better ... |

Really? That tip was included in every NES game that came out at the time (on the Nintendo Power sub card). I'm not sure how you could've avoided it!

Blaster Master was a great game though, I'm sure if I played it again today I'd still think it IS an awesome game. |

Actually this may be as good a place as any to ask, but I noticed there was actually a Playstation Blaster Master title....I never knew this. Was it any good? I suspect since i've never heard of it that it probably was not, but you never know.
![]() looks ugly as sin, but most 3d games of the time do anyway. |

I was a kid when it came out, and the impact of the game was huge upon its release. I believe it was part of the second or third generations of nes titles, so developpers were really finding all the workaround the limited hardware at the time.
For that era, The music was something else and unlike most titles of the same. The fact that you could exit the tank was WTF-awesome; and also the fact that when you went inside a cave or building, the game would switch to another point of view with 'giant' (at the time) sprites. I remember when it came out, I was at this birthday party for a classmate, and he got that game.. We were like 5-6 kids all packed around his small tv, amazed by Blaster Master, simply because it felt so much advanced compared to other titles at the time. It's certainly a classic! |

I wish someone would make a new game that played in a similar style to Blaster Master except making the on foot segments more Zelda-y.
Also, when I was young I totally thought that the frog turned into the tank and felt really conflicted for the main character. "NO, FRED! ...that's a sweet tank." |

Once you master that the rest of the game becomes relatively simple. |

It was an update for Wii-ware, some in here have said that it's not quite as good, I don't own a Wii myself so I have no been able to check it out. It does look pretty awesome though. Is there any confirmation that Wii-ware and virtual console stuff will carry over to the Wii-U yet?
