Which are the best free games (excluding MMOG)
#1
I discovered this http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/...d.php?t=244468
I also played, beaten and enjoyed momodora 2 and have played for a while some other games, including suteF. I actually relatively recently started trying free games (excluding games such chess online, and other similar games, while recently was trying the more indie stuff) and I realized that there are some quality games out there but the problem is to discover which they are. In the sea of so many free games, I usually only try ones others have recommended. Some names I heard and downloaded: Cave Story Spelunky Treasure adventure Battle for Wesnoth So far, Momodora 2 was a relatively not very challenging but pretty funwith cute graphics metroid-inspired game. It isn't very long and I recommend it. SuteF is a little creepy puzzle game, also fun. Cave Story is probably the one I will try next as I heard it is similar to Momodora. Anyway, share your views on some of the best free games. Please don't mention any games here with locked content. There are some great games that restrict some content and allow parts of their content for free, but this isn't the thread for those games.

A bunch of classic stuff has gone free over the last several years too:
Command & Conquer: http://www.commandandconquer.com/classic MechCommander 2: http://www.shacknews.com/file/20899/...er-2-free-game MechCommander Gold: http://www.shacknews.com/file/20900/...gold-free-game Daggerfall: http://www.elderscrolls.com/daggerfall/ Don't forget to make a GoG account if you haven't as well because there's around a half dozen games there that are free when you make your account (Ultima IV, Beneath a Steel Sky, Temptress, Tyrian 2000, Dragon Sphere, etc). Also, they occasionally have other games in their catalog available for free, like the original Fallout recently. http://www.gog.com/en/catalogue/?price=free Probably a bunch of others too, but that's what I could think of off the top of my head. At least for classics. |

If you like 2D Zeldas, you should try ZeldaClassic. Over 200 games based on a hugely improved Zelda 1 engine. Definitely try "Isle of the Winds" (2D game that's like Wind Waker but with several huge islands) and "Hero Of Dreams" (excellent game which will take around 25-30 hours to complete)
Eternal Daughter and Lyle In Cube Sector are great, but really challenging Metroidvanias. If you like some multiplayer fun, you should definitely try Super Mario War. I and my friends spent hours with this game, we had so much fun.

I've had a Dota 2 invite for months now, but I still haven't hopped in and tried it because of the community. I've never played a MOBA-style game, and I want to play Dota 2, but I'd like to learn by playing against AI. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone else to play with, so playing on a team of AI against AI doesn't sound like a lot of fun.

Play as Tim Schafer in this short adventure game as he prepares to host the Game Developers Choice Awards.

Karoshi series
The whole concept is that you're stuck in a room and have to kill yourself. The first one's good but pretty basic, but the second has some crazy puzzles that really make you think outside the box. The rest are also pretty fun. |

I love arena FPS, so Quake Live. If that is unavailable, OpenArena. (Or my old copy of Q3, but shhh)
Also, Xonotic is shaping up nicely. It's the sequel to Nexuiz. Not done yet, but pretty great as it is. EDIT: Forgot about the Cube games. A weird bunch, but you can fiddle with them for hours. |

Definitely Cave Story for me.
Edit: I'm also a huge fan of these games: http://www.mattmakesgames.com/ especially Jumper Redux, An Untitled Story, and Flail.

I would call Cave Story a modern classic.
If you haven't already, download the demos for THE ICONOCLAST and NOITU LOVE 2. KONJAK.ORG And don't forget my favorite Zelda satire, LEGEND OF PRINCESS. |

I think pureZC even said now that they should just use the 2.5 RC2 Version as the "real" Version. But RC3 is also out since February 12 and scripts from older version don't work on that version. So, you still have to wait to make your thread.
