Edith: From JP's twitter: The goal is to kill the team commander. Classes are assigned based on your individual kills.
More from JP's twitter: Classes are re-assigned during the course of the match to top players on team. You can be Squad Leader, Spec Ops, or Medic. Each has buffs.

Getting a serious Spawn (Dreamcast/Arcade) vibe from this.

That's not a bad thing.

Gameplay looks solid for a single player and/or co-op game but i just cant see the appeal for the MP side of things.

It lacks the precision you get with shooters and it lacks the character development you get from the mmo genre.

It seems like its going to have a fairly small skill gap and id imagine multiplayer will suffer greatly from latency much more than other genres. Getting "stuck" in a combo animation from someone else is entirely unappealing aswell.

Ill be buying the game for The solo stuff and co-op if its in but i dont think ill play more than an hour of the multiplayer

This actually looks kinda fun. The combat seems to have a good fell to it, and hopefully there will be lots of moves and combos.
I really hope that survival/ horde like mode is playable offline as well as I probably won't play this online much.
so far the only offline content we know of is a story mode.

The game comes with a training mode for combos, so yes.

The colour palette is always really weird in Platinum's games. Is it something to do with their engine? :/

Remember that Iron Phoenix game that came out on xbox and wasn't very good?

This reminds me of it, hopefully it will be good because I was hyped for that game.

This could well be another Asura's Wrath/Binary Domain - written off before it had come out but then ended up surprising a lot of people. I know I'm still really looking forward to it anyway.

Well getting "stuck" in a combo comes with the territory of any fighting game. Lag will be the real thing to watch out for. Other than that, it looks good in a manic Power Stone sort of way.

It looks like the game has been designed with lag in mind. Seems like there's a pretty large window to follow up attacks with. So I don't think combos will be too bad to pull off in lag compared to fighting games designed for offline

Maybe. but based on the content on their site the system allows for alot of options atleast. Combos off jump ins and gap closers. Resets. In this video you the possibility of extending combos off the big monsters that spawned in the game.

No clue how useful that stuff will be in the actual game, but I think the game will reward skill and learning the game over people that just run around and mash canned strings and grabs.(If E3 show floor vids are any indication of how most people will approach this game) Especially in the modes with less players.

All this is merely conjecture on my part, but I'd be more worried about someone finding something abusable and broken ruining online than the game not rewarding skill

It's neither an MMO or a shooter. Why are you comparing it to those?

I take it you don't play fighting games. I'm just assuming, since you find getting caught in combo strings to be unappealing.

Because this looks like an arena MMO style game.

It felt like tanks, dps, and healers out there.

That's the ugliest environment I've seen in years. I guess the goal is to make the characters highly visible, but the side effect is I don't want to look at the game.

What? It doesn't look like an MMO at all. It's a closed arena 4v4 brawler with items and class buffs.

The environment designers and texture artists on this need to be fired. Terrible. Some of the worst I've seen since the PS2 era. Just the same off colour tan, brown or greeny yellow broken cement everywhere. Dragging the whole game back so much.

So there's this game called Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. It has this guy in it called Magneto who can fly around. He can also hit you like 50 times in the air in one combo. Then once you fall, he can call another guy to come pick you off the ground so he can hit you some more. Then when you finally fall for a second time, he does this really cheap special move that picks you off the ground and puts you in a black hole and squeezes you to death.

It's so annoying and entirely unappealing. I don't think that game did very well.

I had a TON of fun with that. I remember it came out around the time Monkey Bone was in theaters, which used "Come out and play" by The Offspring in the ads. This resulted in matches against Cy-Gor having a backdrop of me singing "Hey-ey-ey! Monkey Bone!"

(I never saw that movie, as it looked like garbage)

NO IT'S NOT.

Spawn: In The Demon's Hand is one of my favorite arcade games ever.

First thing I said about this game was that it looked more like the consolized evolution of Capcom's arcade 3D arena-style vs games (especially before they went all Gundam) than MadWorld.

can't watch the video ATM though :[

Man, I want to like this game, I really do... but it just doesn't look very appealing :( It being an online-only game (iirc) is the main reason. Plus, it looks like an artistic mess. The environments don't look very appealing, but hopefully it's just the one in that video.

This game is going to be sales poison, but I won't lie, it looks like it'll be fun to check out when it drops below $30 if I can con some friends into also getting it.

There is. There are videos of the single-player around.

Hell, all the achievements are single-player ones.

I believe he means MOBA not MMO? they should probably go the whole hog with that and make it free to play since it does and always has, seemed doomed to poor sales as is

My interest in the game has been renewed, one on one could be awesome. The team battles look a little too much like a cluster-fuck though, wish they went a more MOBA rout on that front.

It's not a MOBA either. There is no creep, no lanes, no item shop, etc etc etc.

It's a 4v4 brawler with basic class buffs. I'm not sure why people are trying to shoehorn it into genres it doesn't belong to.

I can't be the only person who looks at this game and thinks "Man, this is basically post-apocalyptic Spike Out with Smash Bros. items added in."

It's not online only. There's a single player story mode where you can select two characters, and experience two sides of the story. There's been videos of this for months.

The reason the environments are kinda bland and sterile, is because it would be absolutely insane to keep track of 8 brightly colored and flashy characters running around in super extravagant arenas and stuff. Even the Spawn Arcade game kept the arenas low key, so you can easily pick out your targets.

It's called game design.
