Quizzed for a more serious answer, the company confirmed: "No, it's not in development." Disappointing news for fans then. The TimeSplitters FPS series has been on a hiatus since the 2005 release of the third game, TimeSplitters: Future Perfect on PS2, Xbox and GameCube. A fourth game has been rumoured for some time, most recently by a report citing a 'high-ranking industry source at Crytek' which claimed development on the fourth game is underway with a plan for its release on the next-gen PlayStation 4 and Xbox 3 consoles. Developer Crytek UK - originally Free Radical before Crytek rescued it from meltdown - officially confirmed to CVG back in 2007 that work on Timesplitters 4 had begun. It even released concept art before its long-time no-show stirred up rumours of its cancellation. Here's the fun Crytek statement, anyway, for the LOLs: "For Timesplitters 4, with ever spiralling development costs, massive teams and endless crunch we decided on a more radical development strategy. "In short, the experiment was to implement the infinite monkey theorem. With cloning being a far too expensive option, we spent all of the development budget on buying monkeys on the black market. "Those seven monkeys are now sat in a room with typewriters and lots of mirrors, and we fully expect Timesplitters 4 to be finished soon. Rumours are that they haven't written any code but just tease the press from time to time. Those damn monkeys. "PS: anyone got any bananas?"

I still think they were maybe shopping around a tech demo, probably using touched up assets from the original TimeSplitters 4 developed while Free Radical was active. They own the IP, so there's no reason not to feel up the market and see if anybody bites. Thus we get reports of "I SAW TIMESPLITTERS 4!". They probably did, old dead assets from an old dead game shoehorned into CryEngine 3 to show off some tech, only no publisher wants anything to do with the series and thus Crytek has no interest either.

I saw the portfolio of an artist from there, just after Crytek bought them out but before they started hiring most of the team back, with quite a bit of his environment art from Timesplitters 4. There wasn't any mention of any engine and I had the impression they were just 3DSMax renders though.
