This is a game I discovered about 2 week ago and it became one of my favorite platformers ever.

In V6 as I will call it, you are a captain of a spaceship who must recover his lost space crew and to do that you have to explore levels, find the crew members and teleporters. The most strange thing about this game, is how you control your character. You can reverse gravity and 'fly' on the top of the screen instead of jumping. But it actually works pretty well. The stages are full of death traps, through spikes and other dangers and some areas are difficult to move. You can also collect some items and that can also be difficult.

Great level design,, many checkpoints, forgiving deaths since you immediately start at the checkpoint without delay, pretty difficult and also a very fitting 8bit like art style. You are going to die a lot, but it won't matter and you will keep playing.

It reminded me of Super Meat Boy and if you liked that at all, I very strongly recommend V6. But I also recommend it in general as this is simply a great game.

GREAT music. And by the way, the composer Souleye has a new, awesome, original album with similar music tracks, including some remixes of his tracks from VVVVVV. It's called Adventure, and you can stream the album on his site, or pay for a high quality version.

There was one awfully difficult screen where I think I died upwards of 100 times. Involved somehow dodging an enemy that was hurtling down by hopping from one end of the screen to the other at the same time as the enemy... and you had to do it like three times. That was whack. But cool.

It's an awesome game for sure, I think I'm going to buy the 3DS version soon and play that.

This is the most difficult part of the game, I spend an hour in this :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4nKzBZIhuc and I just quit attempting it as I didn't have to do it to beat the game. But god damn it that was hard.

Anyone managed to successfully do the Veni Vidi Vici?

This is tied with Sword & Sworcery as my favorite indie game in recent years. As already mentioned a great soundtrack as well. I even double-dipped on the 3DS version just to have it portable.

I really enjoyed this game. It combined two of my favorite genres: Metroidvania and twitch platforming (a la Jumper), with a really cool mechanic. Hope a sequel or spiritual successor of some sort comes out in the future.

Every single part of the main game is child's play compared to some of the standalone custom levels that got added to the version 2.0 update.

PS the version 2.0 update also added Paced Energy, AKA the best song of ALL TIME.

Didn't think just beating the game was hard, but I never took the time to get 100% completion.

I was hoping one of the two videos you posted was the 1st video because that's the one area of the game that still sticks out in my mind. I tried that for like 20 mins, and finally just say funk it.

Did some finagling and managed to play the game with a Wiimote on my computer. Thought that was the ideal way to play it, then I got the 3DS version. I don't know why, but I excelled with the circle pad. I don't know if they tweaked the controls to work better with it or what, but I got through the hard way in about 20 minutes, never did that before.

So, don't know if thats an option for you OP, but its definitely a viable one, and makes for a great portable game.

Oh yes. On the 3DS as well when I double dipped. It's hard but if you keep at it you'll get it.

This is one of the best platformers I have ever played. The action is super tight. It's hard but NEVER frustrating thanks to all the checkpoints. The simple art design nails it. The music is just insanely top notch. There's plenty of replay value in custom maps and time trials. It just hits all the right notes.

I enjoyed this a lot more than Super Meat Boy.

Also out there on youtube there is what looks like a legit no death run through the game. Here's the link- it's pretty entertaining.

The soundtrack for VVVVVV is great, and I use it sometimes when I play Audiosurf and Beat Hazard. My favorites are:

4. Pushing Onward (this one has shades of Ryu's theme)
7. Positive Force. (starting from 0:40 min, the trilling combined with the acid tripping color flashes in Beat Hazard make me want to have a epileptic seizure...fun times)

And yes, Veni Vidi Vici is evil.

This game warmed my heart as an extra layer having grown up playing a lot of Commodore 64 games. There's a lot of subtle little things in the visuals that are evocative of games on that platform.

Even though it's available elsewhere, I always push this to people as one the the 3DS's killer apps.

Cool; didn't love the game so much (my tolerance for the very difficult platformers is apparently pretty low) but I did love the soundtrack, so thank you.

Incidentally, the plugin he uses to stream music on his site works on an iPhone (and presumably other smartphones), even if you let the phone lock. Was impressed by that ;)

I played this for the first time on 3DS and beat it the other day, music is fantastic and the amount of extra levels and content is ridiculous. But I sure hate the floaty momentum controls, they make being precise pretty much a crapshoot.

I wish the 3DS version had some StreetPass support.

Simple support could have just been a statistics exchange.

Greater support could have been to allow you to equip a level that you've created to send to people via StreetPass.

I don't think it requires skill so much as patience. Really, it's just a matter of pressing left/right/A at the right time.

I guess I have a high tolerance and occasionally an attraction to masochistic games.

The game is awesome, and it was a surprise to me since I picked it up at like 5 bucks or maybe lower, it really grabbed me and I kept playing and got all the trinkets, one of the few that I kept playing without leaving my seat, it was quite short so by the time I know it I've already beaten it.

Bought like 5 copies of this game $2.50 ea and gifted them, great game at great price at sale.

and I really like how the map is set up, it's not huge but it gave you a sense of exploration and progression, checkpoints are frequent and quick and it keeps me going, great music, and I find the characters really charming from just the few lines they say and their sad/death expression =P

100%'d the game on my first run through. Got this absolute gem via the Humble Indie Bundle 2 - IMO it's probably one of the best in its genre.

Outstanding game, a perfect compliment to the equally excellent Super Meat Boy.
