So I click on one of those youtube links after reading epic sounding OP and some techno high energy music starts and i'm looking at some guy clicking on dots on a space map and pulldown menus. After 30 seconds of watching this boring ass display I start laughing and realize this is the game and close it.

Concord if its not on grid appears 7-10s after engagement, then You get instajammed and warp disrupted and die in 5-20 seconds, if its on grid You get jammed after 3 seconds.
You basically can fire only 2-3 times before they lock You down.

A friend plays EVE. I don't. I know a bit about it but not details like this. So only weakers ships getting heavily focused are likely to get down from this kind of behavior ?

Its also harder to kill a person who doesnt use autopilot, because You have to lock him down on another side of the gate. Flying by hand in fast ship with warp stabilizers also gives You immunity. And be aware that no one will gank You if Your not worth the gank, so if You arent flying with 100m+ worth of cargo, no one will shoot You [in High Sec].

Eh, personally I'd rather have someone break into my house and fuck with my computer than some girl pretend to fall in love with me just to try and manipulate me and then ruthlessly leave. But I'm weird.

Been playing since '03, and I still fly interceptors because they're relatively inexpensive, and tons of fun. |

I know nothing about eve but last night there were some warp-ins from other squads trying to protect jita, but it was stupid because they kept warping in, scaring them away, then they would warp back, and no fighting actually occurred.

Not sure how any of that is a good thing...this game should probably be shut down if that type of behavior is encouraged. Why would they not perma ban people for ongoing harassment? |

I absolutely love reading about all the crazy shit that happens in EVE, but what I REALLY want, it someone to make all of this stuff into a news show, and then after all an event like this has ended, turn it into a documentary! haha.
I want my game news about wars and stuff to be like real life! DOIT! |

EVE is one of the few games where you can get the R and the P in MMORPG to actually mean something. Taking that away is completely stupid. If people are uncomfortable playing it, then they should probably not be playing it. There are a tonne of MMOs that will coddle you. This isn't one of them. All that said, I used to play, and every time I read these stories I want to get back into it. But then I realize that I would be kissing my sleep schedule goodbye again, and that's the last thing I need. :( |

500k+ subscribers and 50~60k concurrent players. Its the only MMO with constant grow of subscription base [year to year] since launch.

There are bans that are employed for harassment in-game, if the target reports it to CCP and and investigation yields that harassment did indeed occur. Out of game though, if someone hacks your forum CCP isn't responsible for following up with enforcement. It's not that the game or the developers encourage harassing behavior, however there are in-game tools that allow for people to report it, and (in the case of corporate espionage and theft) protect against the the abuse and loss of assets. All of this adds a flavor to the game that you just won't find anywhere else. |

they cant destroy it., just the economy. Prices on everything are going up. Goons hoarded a bunch of resources before this so they will make a bunch of money after the prices rise. Every ship destroyed is a paid for ship that is lost forever.

I'm just happy knowing Eve exists, whether I play it or not.

The parallels with real life are haunting. Graduated High School in a small town and don't know what to do next? Join our "Army" and we will give you a gun and tell you who to shoot at. And in return we will pay for your college and stuff. |

Eve is the game where that one guy setup a bank scam and then bought the most unassailable ship with it imaginable and placed a bounty on his own head daring folks to get even right? God that game has some legendary player moments.
EDIT: Just checked in on the DangerosoDavo stream of this. They say its failing pretty miserably so far. They'll be at it another 3 days or so from what the stream says too. Not certain what it'd take to pull this off at this point.

Are there any other player organizations in EVE on par with Goonswarm in terms of size and power? All the news I hear out of the game seems to be, 'Goonswarm does this to so-and-so' and 'Goonswarm does that to so-and-so'. The impression I'm getting is that EVE might as well be subtitled, 'Goonswarm Fucks With People: The MMO' at this point, and if you're not with them, you're going to get screwed. Rival superpowers clashing in-game sounds epic, but one mega-guild curb-stomping lesser guilds left and right doesn't really get me excited for the game.

I love it. And long may EVE continue.
Sometimes it's fun to fuck with people. Not just to be cruel and affect the person on the other side of the screen, but to roleplay. I remember in Everquest, my guild would occasionally get restless so we'd lock down a city. Kill all the npcs so no trainers merchants bankers or quest givers, and issue a decree; tax on everyone entering or leaving the city, because it now belonged to us. If you wanted to use the facilities you had to pay us. We'd make our own game, in a way more political and dynamic that any developer could ever dream of. This wasn't done out of spite or cruelty, this was done to remind people that Norrath was a world, and in this world unexpected things happen. You'd be inconvenienced because shit happens, just like real life. We'd often be driven off when the word got around and other guilds teamed up to rout us. As a result of this, guilds made alliances. Friendships were formed. Pacts were made. Scores were going to be settled. That was the gift we gave, and that was the point. Some people got it. Others couldn't see it. But everyone felt it. |

0.0 has been boring as hell for a couple of months. That kind of downtime had to be for something. The more aggressive 0.0 outfits aren't well suited for peace.
This is a great outlet for mass conflict without capital blobbing. It's also something to keep their Industrial Arm busy. It also keeps their fighters busy. It also manipulates the markets to their advantage. It will drive up recruitment. There's a lot of synergy.
