pretty sure the black dsl was discontinued along with the white one. you're also overlooking silver, pink and blue.

In the case of the 3DS, the black on top is to have people focus on the 3D screen, same "effect" from movie theaters apparently.

And those DSlite colors, were still one color/ black inside...





..plus there were other traditional colors and the DSi/XL were all the same color inside too.



3DS is apparently just design choice because of the 3D screen. As can also be seen on why the bottom screen is the same color as the rest of the unit.

It was the colour I really wanted, and I didn't think it would actually come out given their past track record.

Guess I'll stick with my Aqua until an XL model comes out, and I won't jump on board right away until a colour I actually want is released.

So you can system transfer from your original Ambassador 3DS to a new one and not loose your Ambassador certificate or games? I'm not sure that purple is the color to make me give up my original Aqua unit but if we ever got that Cobalt Blue unit I would almost certainly go for that.

I ended up importing a White Japanese unit and it looks awesome. White works really well as a 3DS color and I'm sad America still hasn't gotten it.

The color will be the same as E3 2010 but notoriously 3DSes look crazy different under different light sources.

Remember, the top is both plain purple and dark purple.

The purple transparent GBA is also nice :)

It's milky purple though, not quite as vibrant as the atomic purple. I still like it. Anything translucent is cool.

I think I've heard that they fixed that problem in later shipments of the 3DS.

I'm not entirely sure though, so I could be wrong.

From what I remember it was fixed across all models starting from the red one back in August.

Recently saw a red one my friend got and the first thing I noticed how when closed the lid were not as close/tight as my blue/launch model.

It is always recommended to not put much pressure on the top lid anyway; as even on the fixed models, there might appear some smudges if you put them on the pockets of some tight jeans/bag, so there's extra pressure on it.
