2012 really is the year of the Indie game. Fantastic lineup of titles so far and we're not even halfway through yet!

Edit: Assuming this releases in 2012. :)

I know this isn't a new announcement, but of all the recent Sony unveilings, this is the one I'm actually excited about. So much more interesting than a God of War prequel and Sony Smash Bros.

Hopefully we get an idea of its release window soon.

Looks like a game I'd play. And a good candidate for 3D.

I don't think anyone involved is an idiot, i'm pretty sure its a "level" in the game, seems they're shooting for variety. (N.P.I.)

I don't think they're idiots either, I just think they probably want to create a tonally consistent game.

heh i got that vibe after watching the youtube video in the OP......i was almost hoping in the "black" section of that game, you could shoot the white paint in front and see a white strange figure....and as you walk closer, the white figure would come alive and jump at you......

would've been an interesting suspense kind of game....

edit: i meant the youtube concept video posted by Poyunch:

Uh, what the hell?

1) SSM isn't developing this, they're assisting development.
2) Yeah, there sure are no other good exclusives. Infamous, Killzone, Wipeout HD, Demon's Souls, Yakuza, MGS4, Valkyria, Heavy Rain, GT5, Motorstorm, LBP, etc. are SO AWFUL.
3) INSOMNIAC?!

I have a feeling, based on the tech demo and the pages turning into the book, this game will start off more cutsey but later dwell into a creepy dark tone. However, it looks very promising to be a very interesting and weird game. Not a bad thing at all, I love these type of games.

kinda glad they move to more lighter fairy tail tone imo. it still look interesting and amazing, and I don't like playing horror game. but even in this new lighter tone we already see creatures etc, so if they want to add tension it can still be there.

I like the music too.

It's one of the reasons why I love Sony's game division. They really seem to care about creating a very diverse library of games which includes a lot of experimental projects on PSN. They may not always be financial successes, but the fact they got made in the first place is triumph in and of itself. It seems that these "incubation" deals leave the developers with a lot of creative freedom whilst also providing them with awesome support, both financially and technically. They only downside on the developer side is that they are contractually bound for a certain amount of time and that their IPs belong to Sony.

Journey earleir in the year, Datura next week, and now this - hooray for arty PSN exclusives! I'm most definitely on board; I look forward to seeing what direction it goes in once past the initial premise of splashing paint on white walls. The more surreal the better.

I really hope Giant Sparrow are the next thatgamecompany. If The Unfinished Swan is their Fl0w then that means eventually we'll get their equivalent of Flower and Journey. It's not foolproof logic but you know what I mean.

So this was the game Minkley was talking about at last week.

Quote:
Put it this way: without Sony there would be no Journey. And there's another under-wraps oddity - to be revealed next week - which once again highlights the company's laudable support for new talent.
Looking forward to what comes of this.

See, games like this are why we need Sony in the console space. They bring stuff like this to the table.

I like that they're doing what they did with TGC too. The game looks amazing, and hopefully Sony can make them as successful as they made TGC

Quote:
My hands-off session with The Unfinished Swan didn't last long, but what I saw of the game had me genuinely anticipating the finished product. Despite its unfamiliar concept, The Unfinished Swan isn't afraid to challenge players from minute one; the game opens with a completely white screen, leaving players to figure out the (simple) controls without a single prompt. After learning this essential skill, however, the player is left to explore the environment of their own free will, with a scattering of orange footprints (those of the titular unfinished swan) acting as subtle guideposts. Though players are meant to traverse the landscapes of Swan through the use of paint blobs, the developers assured me that the audio cues in each level provide enough context to allow the especially gifted to navigate via audio only. I didn't have the chance to test this hypothesis, but their bold claim indicates Giant Sparrow has faith in their unorthodox design.
Quote:
I really wish I had more to say about The Unfinished Swan; my time with the game was painfully brief, and hands-off at that. But if you'll excuse the uninformed optimism, The Unfinished Swan's core concept could definitely lead to a lot of interesting and memorable puzzles -- and the idea's been around long enough for Giant Sparrow to thoroughly explore its many possibilities. Quantum Conundrum might be more of a known quantity at this point, but 2012 could very well bring into being two very different and very excellent first-person puzzlers.
