Synopsis:
Quote:
In a forgotten but defiant bayou community cut off from the rest of the world by a sprawling levee, a six-year-old girl exists on the brink of orphanhood. Buoyed by her childish optimism and extraordinary imagination, she believes that the natural world is in balance with the universe until a fierce storm changes her reality. Desperate to repair the structure of her world in order to save her ailing father and sinking home, this tiny hero must learn to survive unstoppable catastrophes of epic proportions.

Beasts of the Southern Wild arrives on June 27th.

So lame, come on GAF. I actually just thought it was pretty good when I first saw it (review here), but it has grown on me a lot since then. The score and imagery is just amazing.

Terrence Malick meets Terry Gilliam, indeed.

Sadly, I think that is the actual thoughts of a high percentage of GAF.

This looks like an early David Gordon Green movie. Will watch, though I'm always skeptical of the overpraised stuff that comes out of Sundance.

I recently went to my friends house to check out his wii. I was generally impressed. It was larger than I expected though.

Yeah, absolutely has that tone. This is nowhere near shit like the mediocre as fuck and highly praised/awarded Like Crazy. It's got some honest soul, heart and style. I promise.

I don't have interest in most movies, but I saw a teaser for this on TV and I really loved the atmosphere/vibe this movie puts out. Doesn't seem like it's getting any hype at all, but I'll probably enjoy it (hopefully) :)

Well there's a decent chance I'll see this one, given the buzz it's getting. There's a free screening in my area too but I dunno if I'll be able to make it.

I wish! They just happen to release my favorite films of the year the last few years.

Think of me as DMC, but instead of Batman it's small films sadly less than 1% of GAF will ever see :(

Saw this on Sunday at a screening in Chicago. Really sweet movie. It was well paced and beautifully shot with great performances from previously non-actors. It's this directors first movie and was shot all in southern Louisiana.

Go see it if you can

Got a chance to see this last night; really enjoyed it. The actress that played Hushpuppy (the lead), what an incredible job; especially from someone so young. The movie felt shorter than the advertised 90 mins; the cinematography was great (though the shaky cam took some getting used to). BEAST IT.

I want to see this...

Despite the disappointment that it's an art film and not really about a loose aurochs terrorizing a Southern community... :P

I saw it tonight and really enjoyed it. I didn't know what to expect going in since I didn't see a trailer or read much about it. Great sense of place, good soundtrack, and very well acted. Check it out if you have the opportunity.

I thought it was pretty good, and was impressed when I learned it came from a first time director. I felt like the end left some to be desired but that could juist be me wanting more. Storytelling bits were the best I think.

At the end I wasn't sure what to think, since throughout I thought the aurochs were metaphorical but then it looked like everyone else could see them as well. Felt out of place.
