same :) ...
vita (which i love) was it for me as an early adopter. as someone with no interest in motion-control, on-line services, or dlc, i already see future gaming sorta leaving me in the dust. it's gonna take some very cool looking &, most of all, imaginative games to get me to jump into next-gen... |

Nothing.
If games stopped being made, I'd still have old ones to play. If I had no time because I was a 24 Hour a Day Indiana Jones Trauma Surgeon Supreme Court Justice, I'd make room for little 5 minute sessions and I wouldn't consider it "quitting gaming", just not having time. In the mean time, if new games get made that interest me, I'll buy them. I guess if I was somehow paralyzed I'd probably have to look at weighing the hoops I'd have to jump through to be a disabled gamer versus my other hobbies. |

Well even if developers stopped making games completely, I would still play the games I do have for the rest of my life...but if Nintendo were to ever cease to exist I would probably cry.
Another scenario I could see ruining games for me is if social/microtransaction/ad-heavy games completely took over the industry. |

+1 - guess it's time to get started on assembling a (really)massive backlog on the x360 to keep in cold storage for when the clock finally ticks over and the "no used games" & "DD only" future enters the stage.

mmmh... actually if the next generation will be like this one but powered up with even more western games and even less japanese games and a lot of anti consumer stuff like DLC i think i'll just stick with retrogaming. I really do not like western games aside from very few games and I think I do not approve the new philosophy Nintendo use with their new hardware/software, Sony is way too much USA-centric for my tastes and my lack of knowledge of Japanese language prevent me to play games that i might like.
I think i'm pretty much fucked. |

Requiring an internet connection to use games would be an automatic deal-breaker. I would never do that. I have the internet (obviously), but it is a matter of principle, as that kind of DRM could get VERY annoying fast.
An all-digital platform might, but it might not. I don't mind that on PC or iPod, for some reason, but I must have discs for my console games. |

Probably nothing. I don't play as much as I used to, but that's just because I have different priorities in life right now, not because I want to quit. Even if they stopped making games as of today, I'd probably be okay. I own so many games that I love and could easily replay them. That and finish the games I've hardly started.

I'll just barely manage to stay on after games go 100% digital, but I'll probably drop off (or, more accurately, just replay old games) once they require a constant connection to DRM servers. Or who knows. Maybe by that point it'll barely be noticeable. Who am I kidding? I'll keep playing regardless.

Pretty much this. Also if everything becomes increasingly casual and appeals to the college fratboys. Which is becoming more likely with high development costs. Indie games also piss me off for the most part because they have crowded out legitimate mid tier developers and left the market with only the two extremes of blockbusters and indie games. |

I see a lot of people worrying about the death of hardcore gaming, which seems pretty reactionary and paranoid to me. It's not the death of hardcore games we should fear, it's games becoming nigh-unplayable through walls of DRM.

I'm basically already done. It was a combination of growing up and having a family and other responsibilities and more active hobbies, along with watching a new crop of teenagers gamers on GAF come in and act like going comatose in front of the TV for 10 hours straight is serious business turned me off.

same here. The amount of shit we'll probably have to deal with JUST to play games in the future is a huge turnoff. But that doesn't stop me from playing the 100s of titles I already have.

The only thing that could make me quit gaming is life. You know, family, career, kids, etc.
Sadly I see it happening eventually. But overall, there are much more important things in my life than video games. Heck, I'd give up playing video games way before I'd ever give up reading books. |

I won't "quit gaming", but I will do more retro gaming. Services like GOG and Steam allow you to enjoy the thousands of great old games I never got a chance to play. Also there are some great total conversions like that new one for Freespace, or Nehrim for Oblivion, and lots of mods to revitalize those games.
I don't like the anti-consumer direction that consoles are headed. I'll wait and see how bad it gets before jumping to another console. |

More than likely the only thing that would get me to stop playing would be life getting in the way.
As far as gaming related causes go a total shift to iOS gaming would probably cause me to stop. I don't have a problem with the mobile platform but I don't want that as my only option. |

This, while i would never actual stop playing games, this type of move would allow me to finish my backlog of games which runs right back to the NES era.... ie i have more games then i will ever be able to play.
