Gah, my friend has been trying to get into the server i'm on for ages and when there's a spot, his name will appear "Connecting" then "Connected" then a couple seconds later he'll get "Disconnected".

I'm not sure what the problem is, he's using Arma 2 Free, Operation Arrowhead, Non-steam versions, Six Updater..

The night before he had no problems connecting.

I have an I7 2600k at 4.5 and a gtx 580 and get around 40-60 fps. Sometimes it drops as low as 20 fps. I can't tell you my graphics settings atm because I'm away from the pc but they are mostly set to maximum. I dont think any pc can run this game at a constant 60 fps on the highest settings.

The LOD setting can take a massive hit on your frames if you don't have a decent CPU. Worth having it set to around 5000 (5km draw distance) or thereabouts since the LOD is determined by the server anyways. Anything more than 5k can be a bit of an overkill since there aren't too many places where you can see that far unless you're at the top of a hill/castle/tower etc.

I just raided the hospital in cherno. Blood packs for everyone :P. I now have enough bandages, painkillers, morphine to survive for a long time.

At the apartments overlooking the hospital I also found a compass, a map and matches. WOOT!
On my way NW of cherno I found a tent. You never guess what was in it.
A freaking AK74 kobra with 2 magazines and an ALICE backpack. Now I have all the gear I always wanted to have, except NV goggles off course.

I stopped last night on a tower. With so much stuff.

I spawn today and I glitch through the tower and fall to my death.

:(

Ah well, won't be playing this weekend anyway so would've starved probably.

I don't think you can starve to death logged off. You just have to eat and drink when you log back on because they will be flashing red.

You can't starve nor die of thirst. You can experience blood loss (but it's minimal and only happens after long stretches of time, to prevent people from logging once and say "I've been alive for months!").

You'll just log back really hungry/really thirsty. Just make sure you have something on you when you log off, so you can drink immediately when you log back in.

Something went wrong with my save file since yesterday, twice infact, but both in a good way.

Yesterday I shot a Survivor who me and Mickey assume was going to shoot Mickey. Instantly I turned into a Bandit with -200 Humanity. Today when I log in I am a Survivor with 2650 Humanity (Still spawned in the same spot with all my loot from yesterday).

My thirst icon was flashing red and I had one empty bottle and one full bottle of water. I consumed the last one then tried to run north from Stary Sober to a pond in the woods. Of course I get chased by a couple of Zeds I didn't notice and sort of ran off track. I got severely lost and kept running in circles in the woods trying to find the pond that was surrounded by trees. I had a decision to make, enter Grishno on my own (Place was swarming with Zeds) and hope I find a can, or try once more to find this pond. By now my thirst icon was flashing again and I thought I was going to die. I decided to move forward into Grishno incase the pond wasn't deep enough. Lost connection to server. Rejoined, my thirst and hunger icons were both green as, no need to drink and I spawned right next to Grishno. Bonus. Now trekking off elsewhere after finding the pond and filling up three bottles (Found a third along the way).

I felt really bad, especially because Gibonez assassinated him just a couple hours earlier and that was Wedge's character that had been alive for 5 days and survived a bunch of GAF massacres.

On a brighter note, at least for myself, I'm basically back to where I was two days ago when I got murdered. Got all the gear, ammo and food I had before.

I'm kind of bored of the NW and Stary. I wanna go and check out Krasnostav and Berezino. Maybe go Grizzly Man and live off the land near Pobeda Dam now that I have a knife and matches.
Haha don't feel bad, such are the perils of survival! The character that survived longest wasn't killed by Gibs, although he did last from part 3 through part 8. Another victim of accidents.

Entered the Devils Castle on my own. Got smashed by a Zed, managed to kill all that were attacking but I ran out of bandages before I got there so now I am bleeding to death. Finally find one and patch myself up but am now at 2100 blood after consuming some beans. Keep falling down, found some good stuff heading up to the top of the tower but now I have fallen over and there is no hourglass. Have a feeling I'm fallen unconscious. I've logged out for now so I can reevaluate my situation, maybe I can arrange for help if someone if near the vicinity. Don't want to lose what I got but if I do then so be it.

If only I had found a knife earlier I could've cooked some steaks from the animals I encountered along the way.

Last night the group moved on while I stayed here, above the dam. Dehydration has set in overnight. Dehydrated in the pouring rain. All the water in the world, but none to drink, a gaffer once said of such rain and water. The abundance of water taunts. My only hope is the unquenched thirst of the dead who shamble around this dam. I dispatch three. Nothing. Towards a house I wander. Four dead take heed of my approach. This winchester finds its mark each time. I pillage their bodies. A can of glorious pop!

Through the woods I trek. Towards gaffers and the safety in numbers. I wander fields, clear the off-set barns. Krappa and I pledge to meet. I move between bushes. Along the edge of tree lines. From Novy I hear the pleading shouts of survivors, and the rifle reports that end their lives. The taunts from the forest. The glee at their demise.

Waiting for Krappa I continue to move. From the forest I hear "whose moving along the woods?" Its Gibs. "Its wedge." "Who is in the woods??" "Its me, wedge!" Shots ring out, flying through the underbrush. "Who is that with the winchester?!?" "Its wedge with the winchester!" I know that I am not silent. Running now. Two shots find their mark. I collapse, like so many in Novy Sobor.

Wandering. Much of it. Over hills. Avoiding towns, avoiding the dead. No compass, and unable to see the moon. Inland I get lost. How I survived thus far a mystery. Doubling back when I thought that straight was all I had gone. The same signs. Until...Novy on the horizon! Gaffers greet me in the field.

Krappa stays in the woods as Enduin, Oatmeal and Wizzard stalk a cow. Precious fresh meet. BS, Nix and Broken joins and we raid Novy. Its church providing necessary water. Shamblers wander towards Enduin, BS and I. We dispatch them easily. And a stray round finds my head. Fewer thoughts than blood and brain leave my skull.

North, away from this accursed coast. Sick of the death that wanders here. Oft lost. Rarely not backtracking. From town to town I attempt. Miles are covered. Over I hill I stumble. From behind I am told to dance. I oblige. Wizzard! Found in these parts. We discover a city with landmarks.

Finally able to locate north. We know the rallying spot for our fellow gaffers. Word has reached us. Of Nix, Krappa, BS, Broken, Enduin, Oatmeal and Mickey. Nix waits in the staging area with another.

Mickey and others have drawn a horde in town. Wizzard and I know that this is our chance, with no supplies, to pillage the army camp. We run. A lone shambler ended. Armed now. We hear shouts of death at the hands of gravity. But the horde is pulled through camp. They give chase. I circle the barn we have secured. Gaffers picking off these followers.

We return to the camp. A shotgun! Shells that fill all the space I can give them. Back to the barn. Krappa and I venture into town. Finding pieces for a helicopter. Enduin meets us in town to resupply Krappa. More storage. Creeping past the dead. I've Krappa's back. Tense walking. We exit town, safe.

But Mickey approaches. Another town full of dead in tow. I run to the barn. Shooting over. The daylight secured. Broken and I move past each other. And I slip. I see the barn, further and further. Can I roll out of this? Separating only my shoulder? A broken leg? Ought to have stayed with Krappa. Over and over I think this.

Death eclipses me.

Dont know if it's been posted already but new changes incoming from rocket:

Quote:
Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed
As the title said, the Bandit/Survivor morphing will be removed. You will find skins around the world, that you can wear if you choose. Humanity will be retained for an undisclosed purpose.

Because humanity is the feature DayZ deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll remove bandit transitions, because its not helping. Because its not a good feature. Humanity remains as a silent guardian, watchful protector. An ... unfinished feature.

So I start running through the forest, probably for 30 minutes until I spot a guy in a strange looking outfit. So I start stalking him, he's constantly running so it's hard to catch up.
When I get closer I realize he's a bandit so I'm just waiting for him to stop so I can kill him.
Finally after stalking him for like 5 minutes he enters a small village with zombies so he slows down, I lie down and open fire with my makarov (lol) of course im too out of breath to hit anything.
I land a couple of shots but he still manages to turn around and kill me. ( I think he had an einfield rifle) Just before I die I can see zombies swarming him so Im pretty sure he's dead anyway lol

But damn my heart was racing though the entire chase, never had a gaming experience like that before

I'm not so fond of the new feature. There's no reason to trust anyone anymore then, while now you don't know if you can trust other survivors. You know you can't trust bandits. I'm afraid it will lead to a PvP fest without the psychological factors.

Only if people are idiots. Now people should approach each other more carefully, use the chat to try and strike up a bond, etc etc.

It should only get more psychological.

It's the apocalypse. You SHOULDN'T know who you can trust. A "good" and "bad" skin is so dumb, especially when one can acquire a bandit skin for just killing one person, perhaps to survive or by mistake etc. I've got a bandit skin and I've teamed up with 3/4x more people than I've killed. The binary thing of survivor = good, bandit = bad is wrong and warps the perspective of players.

I disagree. There's no reason to trust anyone then, if you see someone with gear you might like, you just shoot him and get away with it, no consequences. Now there are consequences so you don't just shoot anyone, yet. At least I don't. With my current gear I could go Rambo upon everyones asses, just for the fun of it. Has nothing to do with the apocalypse. I don't like the idea.

There really should be more advantages to teaming up with others, instead of killing them. Hopefully we'll find out more about what's in store for the humanity system soon.

What's more valuable, a better gun or an extra person?

In most cases, an extra person. I've killed for a gun before but I realised that's a mistake. The punishment for killing someone is now the likelihood of dying increasing due to the lack of a partner.
