Which setting helps reduce pop-in? I'm noticing quite a bit with this game. I should just max everything out, an OC'd 2500k + 8 GB RAM + 560 TI should tear through this game, yes?

There's probably a config file edit for that, but in-game I guess it's just draw distance--or maybe they call it LOD?

I have the same setup as you, but an older CPU (AMD Phenom II x4 @ 3.6). So you should run it better than me, especially since it's a more CPU intensive game. Video memory should be set to "Default" if you have more than 512mb VRAM, and you can maybe fiddle with HDR and post processing--but I would crank up everything else personally.

I've found that--given a decent system--framerate depends far more on the server than what the game is rendering at any given time. That doesn't make much sense, but it's obviously true; if you jump around different servers you'll see.

I run everything max with shadows turned off. But im running on Arma2 Free so my textures are a little more low res then others =/

I left to fiddle with some settings, and now it seems I can't get back into the server as it is "locked"...

I wouldnt take it personally, its really hard to play the game when theres just 10 people in Mumble at once talking. I havent been on today, but seeing how many new people were setting up in this topic today I can assume there were quite a few people in the chat. Really mumble is a seriously imperfect system, its become way too big a crutch for us and with so many more people jumping into the game its going to become overwhelming and just impossible to use.

I thought that was the regular server, so it felt somewhat jarring that you would welcomed as such.

Hi everybody, I'm about to get started with Dayz and am wondering what's the difference/advantage of using the updater in the op instead of the "official" Sixupdater? So far I only downloaded Arma II OA on steam and I'm not too sure where to go from here though I did try to look it up.

As stated video card memory = default but also you could try a ramdrive...failing that buy a small SSD and install ARMA (etc) on that...it really helps.

Another tense day as a lone wolf...or should I say lone cat!

Character spawned at (I think) Prigorodky...my son (and his 'gang') are at Stary - I'm never going to make it - this is my 2nd life tonight having spent my last life running from a zombie for 20mins only to eventually pass out and die. So I set myself a target to get inland to the nearest town and THIS TIME get a weapon so I can at least attempt to protect myself!

Anyway, I describe my surroundings to my son who suggests checking out a barn with a red roof (surrounded by zombies! lol). As I make my way over I notice another player disappear off into the treeline north of the barn I'm about to hit. I keep an eye on him - looks like he's just headed inland and not to worry about - but I'll keep an eye out...

So I crawl my sorry backside all the way to the barn and as I'm about to enter I see another player crawing in from the other side...goddam...no weapon to protect myself - I'm doomed! Heart pumping adrenalyn rushing I bolt into the barn and up the stairs - a shotgun! Wahoo! I make my way into a corner where I aim at the stairs ready for the other player - I'll not shoot unless I have to, I figure if I'm aiming at him and shout friendly he'll have to accept that I am (or I would have just shot his face off lol).

I'm waiting a few mins now - maybe he saw me and is waiting for me to leave? I just noticed - I've got no Ammo! D'oh! Oh well, I can bluff him - I wait a bit longer then start to slowly make my way looking at the entrances for a player in wait - nothing to be seen sp I head down the stairs and notice some ammo on the opposit side of the barn...I'm now fully armed!

I make my way out of the barn only to notice the player crawling directly in frount of my in the distance - but wait...it's a zombie not a player!! So I carefully make my way into the trees and take stock...I begin to relax a bit in the knowledge that I managed to pull off raiding a barn surrounded by zombies without getting agro :)

I make my way North eventually I see a small town off in the distance - I think it's Mogilevka at a total guess, but I can't be sure. I'm at the edge of the trees looking out, surveying the land and I check the time - another 2+hours just flew by and now would be a good time to log off...man this game eats time!

Just hit over 800k unique players, 45k concurrent peak, 19k offpeak... and the servers didn't spontaneously combust! Beans for everyone!

RPS: Is there a ceiling you will hit from the persistent architecture of it? Can you keep upping capacity? Hall: Well I know people are having trouble logging in, but that’s more to do with the interaction between the local server and their nodes. The persistence server can handle up to ten thousand concurrent connections, and we have peaked at five thousand. So that should be able to handle a lot more load. And I sort of think surely we couldn’t hit ten thousand concurrent connections, right?

Some people really need to learn to hide their tents. After stalking the forest for some game, i came across a camp-site with 10 tents. Looted everything of value, and then threw a grenade at the tents to pull other players and ran like hell. Fun times

holy shit, man just had the "yup this game is amazing" moment was dying of thirst on the forest, couldnt get out, walking in circles. I have soooooooo much good loot that I was freaking out. Thirst starts flashing red. I go on with it flashing for easily 20 minutes. See a town in the distance, head there, kill like 5 zombies on the way with my hatchet. Start looting every house, no pepsi cans anywhere. Finally, when everything was starting to blur and I was almost done for thirst, where do I find one: the church. god almighty

So I just bought the game from Steam and installed the mod but I can't play it because it says wrong CD-key or something which is retarded since I bought it on Steam and you don't need to put in a code.

Yesterday I had quite an eventful session.

Me and my buddy start off at Gorka and move down to Starry Sobor. As we get to the forest with the two deer stands northeast of Starry the server we're on starts lagging something fierce and we're forced to disconnect. After we join a new server, my friend bugs out (spawns at NW Airfield dead and respawns right next to his dead body) and I spawn right next to two other players in the forest. I manage to kill one of them before I die. My DRM, NV goggles and Ghillie suit all lost. :(

I respawn down in Balota and I manage to find a M4A1 CCO with ammo and two grenades. At the little military camp just south of the airfield I get my first ever player kill with a grenade. I don't think he realised he climbed right down on top of a grenade when he went down from one of the deer stands. It helped me get over the loss of my previous gear a little.

From there I make my way down to Cherno to get more supplies. Halfway in to the center of the city I start hearing shots ahead of me. A bit further up ahead I see one of those restaurant buildings lit up by half a dozen road flares, and of course whoever is in there keeps firing. I try to sneak in from the back but on my way into the backyard I see one guy up in the window where the staircase is. I suppose it was him who had been screwing around with the flares and shots, only one thing to do. Two shots through the window to the head and down he goes. Feels good man. Then, as I'm about to enter the building, I see that he has blocked the back entrance with barbed wire. As I'm about to leave the backyard I pass the windows for that room that's on the left if you enter from the front and inside a second guy is just sitting there. As I start shooting at him he runs up the stairs and I lose sight of him. Instead I run out to the street to see if I can enter the building from there and out on the field of grass, maybe 30 meters away from me, I see a third player just walking around looting zombies. Pop pop pop. Another murder to my name. Then I hurry inside and at the same time I see the guy I shot at before come down the stairs... and he throws a road flare at me lol. I switch from Semi to Full on my colt and give him half a mag to the face. Time to loot! I run up the stairs and take a left and clear those two rooms of food and tools. So when I'm on my way to the third room I get a nasty surprise. A third player had been camping in the building the whole time and now he sat with a Lee pointed right at me. Fuck! I manage to dodge behind a wall before he can fire, but as I run out and shoot him he manages to hit me as well, and a Lee up close is basically a death sentence. I put 6 bullets in him and I see him die, but half a second later I'm on the ground, unconscious, with 500 blood left and bleeding out. Oh well. I manage to kill a group of 4 players on my own, that's always something.

Another update will come later about meeting up with my buddy and how we take down a likely cheater outside Cherno.

How many servers you tired? I used to get that during the ARMA X issue days but now it's gone completely...are you using sixupdater to launch?

So I know this is blasphemy to PC GAF, but I'm trying to play with a 360 pad, but can't find a way to invert the Y-axis on the controller. Is this option not available in Arma?

I think you should register up to your down axis and down to you up axis.

Just click on the movement you want to change and move your stick in accordingly. It will show the movement as Y- and Y+.
