I've owned ARMA II for a while, but finally got all of combined ops a few weeks ago during the Steam sale, and have been playing DayZ since. Been having a blast. I didn't even realize there was a GAF server.
I'm on vacation right now, but I get back Saturday, and I think I'd like to start playing with some fellow GAFfers. Read a few of the most recent pages, and seems like there's a lot of drama and relationships already formed between some members in the server and mumble. Hopefully I'm not too late to the party, and can join in with everyone. Only thing is, I'm still not very good at the game. I'm starting to get better at recognizing cities and things like that, but my average life span is still probably only around an hour or so, usually getting killed off my bandit snipers or something. I also have only rolled solo in the game, never really in a group. Is me being LTTP and my lack of real DayZ skill gonna be a problem with you guys?

New beta patch is out. Not sure if its worth installing but I did just for the sake of not having to do so later.

Improved: VoN now uses the same port as the game traffic, should make VoN more reliable. some crash hotfixes some memory leak fixes some small tweaks some networking issues resolved BattlEye support status: supported http://forums.bistudio.com/showthrea...62-MP-build%29 Judging from these comments, i stay away from the patch for now.

So they say, but they're quite lax about enforcing this stuff.
One server in the EU region runs a script that kicks almost everyone off the server aside from the admin and their friends, and which has been reported multiple times for this with evidence. It's almost always empty even at peak times. A month later and it still isn't banned. |

Honestly i know its a alpha, but these hackers are just ruining the whole experience for me. I fail to see how the game can be so open that client can spawn server sided stuff. I mean CS is probably the most hacked game of all time, but NEVER has there been hacks that can control server sided things. How hard can it be to limit what the client can do without a password? In any case removing the craziest hacks wold be a start. I would actually enjoy just dealing with wallhack/aimbot/teleport/speedhacks instead of instant kill, godmode and b52 bombers. Look at HoN... completly removed the whole maphack problem with simply limiting what information the client gets. Wonder of something like that could work for dayz. Bleh |

The group I play with finally found a heli, took 3 of us about 2 and a half hours to get it up and running. Luckily we found the PBX which made getting to the island 100 times easier.
Flying that thing is so much fun, especially when you start banking like crazy when you see SAW tracers flying at you from the ground. |

Most of the servers in the game will kick you if your ping is 150. |

This isn't an interesting gameplay vid but it does has some interesting info. Interview with Rocket (DayZ creator) talking about the future of the series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jECuS7NSEcc |

Hahaha oh wow. Day 14 of my character, just successfully looted the NW Airfield barracks. Aggro'd a zombie, get swarmed by 10 in the barracks. I manage to kill all of them, but I dropped to 5300 blood. I began the trek back to the coast so one of my friends could give me a transfusion, all the while looking for crash sites. I climb in the Veresnik deer stand, look through my binoculars... BANG, dead. I'm not even mad somehow, finally dying gave me a hell of a rush.

So, I've been restocking my camp lately with my private stash of Beans and Hatchets. Kind of a time consuming process, but I like to have a central area I can go to get the handful of necessities that I need before I go exploring a lot of other areas (or go to get myself killed with the GAF Mumble group which inevitably seems to happen). With the GAF server down and my camp out in limbo, I hopped to another server today to play a bit. I had one of my L85A2's with me and started making my way out of the grocery store in Vybor towards the Northwest Airfield. The server I was on was lowly populated, so I didn't expect much trouble and when I got to NWA, I didn't see any signs of activity or zombies so I thought I was good to go give it a look.
So I was minding my own business, going through the hangars and mostly just scrounging for ammo when I got a bit to close to a couple of zombies. I evade them quickly, not to worried since I had 12,000 blood, and one of the first zombies got a near perfect hit on me as I made a turn around one of the hangars. Unfortunately for me, the sound I hear was my bones crunching and my guy immediately collapses to the ground. All I could think was dammit. Why the hell did I bring my L85A2 up to NWA anyway. Anyways, I decided since I didn't have much to lose, I was going to go ahead and make my way towards the barracks to see if there was the small chance that I could end up with a Morphine injector. I crawled for an excruciating time, while avoiding zombies as much as I could (and taking out those I couldn't with my SD pistol, despite my dwindling ammo supply). Unfortunately for me, someone had noticed my activity and I ended up hearing and seeing a shot hit only feet in front of me from somewhere across the air strip. The second shot hit straight to home and ended up knocking me out and taking my blood from the high 11,000's down to about 4400. Whatever weapon the guy was using ended up attracting nearly every zombie on the airfield (DMR maybe?), so it at least cleared my path to the barracks. I was fully expecting a third shot/kill shot to come at any time, but to my surprise it didn't. After about 45 seconds or so, I finally regained my consciousness and quickly bandaged myself up with less than 2000 blood remaining, shaking, and my vision blurred with a color blindness. I made the final path to the barracks building. When I opened the door to the barracks, I saw my salvation. A morphine injector was straight ahead of me. But my hell wasn't over yet. You see, someone had put up a wire fence right in front of the door to the morphine injector and I was too far away to use the gear menu to get to it. I started to lose hope as I couldn't come up with a way to get the remove fence option to come up with my toolbox. I kept on trying to reposition myself and because of my limited movement capabilities with the broken leg, it started to become an effort in frustration. I heard a few gunshots down the way. And heard a few more zombies move towards the noise. I didn't know for sure where the guy was, but I knew he was coming up on me quickly. My character's breathing was overwhelming a lot of the other noises in the game, and I started to share his sentiment. Finally, the remove fence option came up in game and I was able to crawl my way to my salvation. ... So, you know how I said earlier that I lost my vision and became color blind? As I switched over the gear menu, the morphine auto injector that was supposed to allow me to save myself, turned out to be a fucking epi-pen. I quickly glanced through the rest of the barracks rooms and I didn't have the luck to find any morphine injectors. With the other guy somewhere in the airfield, my only hope now was that I could get the jump on him and hopefully be lucky enough that he had a morphine injector in his pack. Preparing for the final show down, I laid down in the room, pulled out my L85A2 and waited knowing sooner or later my hunter would come for me. I didn't have to wait long. I hear the guy running into the barracks. As he comes around the corner, I pull the trigger. The spread on my bullets is all over the place because of my shakes (with no painkillers). I don't know how many times I end up hitting him, or if I took him out as well, because in the end, all he needed was one shot from his pistol and everything goes black with the taunting "You Are Dead" message.

Well, I had my first full night on DayZ and loved it, started out with running into a barn and looking a Lee Enfield and 3 mags, water bottle and soda, and then leaving to look for more gear, I head down a hill towards another barn area and I see the zombies acting wierd, realising they were aggro'ed by someone nearby, I hit the deck and readied my rifle!
Upon gazing down my iron sights I catch a glimpse of a guy run into the barn, so I lay in wait on the hillside. Watching. Hoping the guy would come out with decent loot that I could get from him. Still nothing. So I advance, I scout the barn and when I look up I see him laying there. Dead. Turns out he had no loot on him. Later on I'm having so much fun, and I've ran around quite a few places I figure I could run through a town and look for buildings to loot (thinking to myself, "I know how to break LoS on zombs now, will be easy") how wrong I was... Ended up dying with the best loot I've had in ages :/ DayZ.... |

Btw i'm pretty much done with the mod as of now. I'll play on the next revision when they fix the respawn button and all that...not to mention that hackers seem to be able to teleport everyone to the sea, kilometers away. Talk about griefing lol.
Just saying it in case anyone misses me in mumble. Not likely. |

Wow, met my first actual friendly survivor today. I was with my friend and the dude had an AS50. He just popped out of nowhere and asked us how we were doing and if we needed any supplies. He could have shot us if he wanted to. We had no idea where he came from. My friend and I both had our crosshairs on him if he did anything crazy but he gave me an NVG and my friend a Ghillie Suit. I'm not sure if he was a hacker or not but he had only one ghillie suit on him. I wish there were more friendly survivors out there.

So in a ridiculous stroke of good fortune, I logged on tonight and managed to snag myself yet another M4 SD. Technically still Day 0 for this character and I'm pretty much back up to full speed with my M4 & SVD.
No sign of any NVGs but if my luck with the spawns holds up, it can't be long! |
