This has probably been said somewhere else in the thread but where is GAF playing? Probably won't be on tonight but I played like 20 minutes and saw not a single person on the server I was on.
Saw a shitload of zombies though, died very quick. EDIT: Probably should say I'm in the UK so if there's multiple servers I guess I'll need one close by? |

But yeah you've been playing today so it's most likely someone else. On a similar note, does anyone know how to find your player ID so you can check yourself out on the leaderboard? |

EDIT: Hey Nix, if Newell is still on the stream ask him if he lost his stuff last night before the server went down :P .

Got the first error detailed in the installation guide:
"You cannot play/edit this mission because it is dependent on downloadable content that has been deleted" with all the dayz files listed after it. I followed the guide for installing the games on steam, updating to 1.6, restarting, installing the mod and running as combined operations with the modified launch parameters, so I'm not sure what the issue is. It says to try reinstalling the mod, but all that amounted to was unzipping files into a folder, so i don't see why that would work, but I'll try it. Really don't want to have to deal with reinstalling ArmA and Op Arrowhead again though. That shit takes too damn long with Steam. |

The launcher Ive seen use you have to drag the DayZ folder from the left hand column to the right side column in order for it to be loaded into the game. |

malloc is a memory tweak (made default now with beta patches) and nosplash skips the logo stuff when you start. |

There isn't any launcher involved. According to the guide, I'm supposed to launch the game by right clicking on it in steam and choosing "Launch Arma: Combined Operations". This takes me directly into the game. No launcher. Okay, steamapps->common->arma 2 operation arrowhead->@dayz->addons. This is how the guide outlines it, unless I'm missing something, and that's how it's installed. But I'll try redoing it the exact same way anyhow... |

WHELP, I'm a doofus, because it's working now by simply reinstalling it exactly how I had the first time. I swear I checked the folder structure a dozen times compared to the guide and it was spot on, but it didn't work. It's working now for whatever reason.

Okay, so wow, just played a few minutes and already this game is awesome, despite the annoying quirks of the ArmA 2 engine (precisely why I was unable to play the game back when I bought it off a steam sale) but I feel like the two awesome moments I already had in this mod will make me not care about that. Few questions though:
ArmA 2 seems to have this really obnoxious blur effect to it. Is that just me or does everyone get this? it almost seems like it's a result of the HDR options, which I noticed in the visual settings can't be turned off, they can only be set to "normal" or some such. Is there a console command to turn off HDR completely, because there is just an ever so slight blur to the game that makes it look like almost like there's a thin skin of clear plastic over my screen. Also, are there any well known performance tweaks for those of us with less than ideal hardware configs? I can run the game very smoothly and comfortably at the default "normal" settings, but I get really bad stuttering when moving too fast from area to area and when switching from third to first person. Lastly, how the hell does the inventory system work in this game? I tried looting both a player and a zombie and both times the loot showing appeared to be my own loot. How do I take their stuff? Furthermore, how do I use my own stuff? I was able to bring up a quick menu to eat rations and drink water, but when I was injured, I was unable to figure out how to bandage myself. Sorry for the noobish questions, but yea, holy shit this game is great. I almost wish Max Payne and Diablo weren't coming out on Tuesday now just so I could play this, but with the rest of the summer looking pretty sparse, I think I know where i'll be spending a lot of my time. I was only in-game for maybe ten or fifteen minutes (from whenever my last post was until now basically) but in that span I was just exploring a tiny starting town looking for shit to steal when I got attacked by two zombies and FUCK that was terrifying. Those screams. After taking them out, I ran around more, escaped a couple more zombies, and heard gunshots down the road. I went down and found another survivor fighting off one zombie, so I helped him shoot it, and he didn't try robbing me. We fought off one more almost immediately and I followed him into an empty shack, where I proceeded to empty a full clip into him. If you're Rampage13, I'm sorry. You were too trusting. Man, this is awesome. But like I said, i couldn't goddamn figure out how to loot him. What am I missing? Am I just stupid? |

Damn, does the looting interface need an overhaul. Of all the things in the game that should be vague, looting shouldn't be one of them. Look at a corpse, hit the action button, and you'll see two distinct categories: what you have and what the stash/body has. Boom. Done. No idea if this could easily be implemented, though.

Just alternate between servers. I mainly play in the dark, far too paranoid for daytime travel.

Because it doesn't clearly show what's on the ground versus what's in the inventory/backpack, and moving items can sometimes just completely delete the items. Switching weapons can apparently completely delete weapon clips.
Moving items between the backpack and main inventory can I think use the same arrows that also drop items on the ground. If you click the wrong thing you can drop the entire backpack on the ground and it's difficult to see it or pick it back up. There's a bunch of things that are glitchy or weird, and item deletion is just the worst one of all. |

Yes, Confidence Man, it's not vague at all. In fact, it's so straight forward that this thread exists on the official forum. Look at this:
![]() Why are inventory items listed twice? Either give me a text list or show me an icon -- having both is redundant. And why, when I look through a stash, does it list lootable items among my characters' own inventory? More importantly, why aren't lootable items at the top of the list? Don't make me scroll down to see what items I can take. Oh, and then there's the fact that the game automatically transfers items out of your inventory when it's full. I don't want the game to move a blood pack from my inventory to the stash I'm looting when I grab an extra can of beans. If I'm full up, warn me and let me organize things manually. And last but not least, the formatting... Holy shit. "Gear" is left formatted, when it should be centered. The center divider makes it look like only items on the left are yours. The buttons along the bottom are all over the place. "Close" is all by itself and adds to the clutter. Center the buttons and make "Close" a different color. On the right side, the grid is screwed up. There's an unnecessary space below and to the side of rucksack items. The soldier silhouette needs to go. The quick select thing below the text list needs to go, as well. There are many things I want Day Z to challenge me with -- zombies, bandits, food, water, etc. Fucking around with the inventory should be quick and easy. |

Just played for the first time, 2h30m spree - 19 kills, 6 of which were other players. I managed to find a lot of the little utility items like the compass, watch, map, matches etc. Best weapon I came across was an AK-47, but I couldn't find any ammo for it. In the end, my overconfidence was my doom.. approached another player from behind with 4 bullets left in my pistol, and somehow he turned the tables on me. I had a blast anyway, can't wait to play this with a few others.
Quick question - is loot randomised, or can you find the same guns in the same places? I'd like to find a scoped rifle if possible.

And the worst bug for me is not being able to pick up bags, or randomly losing them (full of items even) when messing around with the inventory. I hope this is a known issue and is being worked on. |

Wow. I have to say I was confused about how to even put an item to an inventory for a few DayZ, but I could never say this. Not being intuitive and instantly usable by any random newcomer does not equal being awfully designed.

And the game tells you it's going to swap out an item from your inventory when it's full when you mouse over a stash. Why I don't know but it certainly doesn't do it against your will as you always have the option to loot it normally. The glitches are legitimately bad, but most everything else only needs a little familiarity. |

Had an awesome session earlier with a friend. We managed to make it from west Elektro to east Cherno stopping at a ton of little towns and clusters on the way. Last night we died all the time but we lived for several hours, finally figuring out the inventory and other quirks. I ended up with 17 kills and 16 head shots. Food is sparse and I am down to 9800 blood. Will probably resume later tonight. I think we are going to go into Cherno at night, should be terrifying.
God damn this game is amazing. The zombie game I have been waiting for, and to think it is only going to get better! |
