Not a problem! Looking quickly at the Smart Viera website, it doesn't actually speak of displaying channel guides or program info on smart phones/tablets. If Nintendo can work it out w/ the cable providers, those features would be something extra in addition to the things which Wii U and this Smart Viera tech seemingly have in common.

This generation has and is going on as long as it is only due to the fact that 2/3 of the console makers priced themselves out of the market for the majority of the generation. Its an artifical lengthening by the fact people who want to jump in are finally seeing reasonable pricing.

VERY good point. The adoption of motion controls by Sony and Microsoft has also been an important factor though.

The PS3 in particular was having major problems until they dropped the price to 400 dollars. There were even several months when the GBA outsold the PS3 which was just plain ridiculous :Oo

I wouldn't get too caught up on what was released at that time. To semi-translate what he's saying, it would be akin to switching your graphics card from a 5770 to a 6790. Paper spec-wise they are virtually the same, but because the 6790 is more modern there are things it can do better which in turn gives it an extra (small) boost when it comes to current games that can utilize those things. An example of what could be said is that an even more modern tessellator, like what may be used in the GCN GPUs, was added during the tweaking process.

Could be, but actually I think Microsoft should be more worried with their Kinect.

Samsung's CES 2012 press conference is going on right now, and it's unveiling new products including the top of the line ES8000 LED model that packs a dual core CPU to run its apps, and an integrated camera and microphone for "Smart Interaction".... Beyond that, the "Smart Evolution" feature will let users swap out that dual core processor for something heftier later on if they want to upgrade. Finally "Smart Content" is the umbrella term for a wave content and apps including, of course, Angry Birds... Smart Interaction cameras and mics for videoconferencing as well as voice and gesture control.

WiiU's controller is much more gam-centric than kinect will ever be.
WiiU will also be out earlier. WiiU with a TV that has kinect like attributes can be seen as complimentary to each other.

But buying Kinect2 when a Kinect like TV seems superfluous.

I know of precisely one person who owns a Kinect and, judging by his Gamertag, used it three times to play games and that was within the first two weeks he owned it. Nothing since. He claims he uses the voice commands to control Netflix for his kid while he makes dinner but that can't have been an issue more than a dozen times.

I think there are people in here who know more about this topic than I, but when you look at things like electronics magazines, they basically state that "TVs will have multiple screens," or "TVs will work with smartphones." One of the Wii U's proposals is, "Even if you don't buy the latest TV, the existing TV in your house will become multi-screen." In households in Japan, I believe many families have recently replaced their TVs to watch terrestrial digital media broadcasting as the transitional period to which ended just the other day, and I do not imagine that mass amounts of those new TVs will be replaced in the near future. Yeah, most people I know useed it the same amount. GI editor Andrew Reiner did a good blog post called something like "why I regret buying Kinect" it kind of sums up the issues with it, if your using it for video games.

I don't think it makes sense.
Mario Kart is an ideal 2nd holiday title.
Its a strong brand, it hits just when the console is doing well and gives it that extra boost.
And honestly, if they have Sonic All Star Racing at launch, they should help Sega to push that.

Also, I want them to get it right since they tend to only do one per console.
