Why Doesn't NeoGAF Have Its Own Gaming Podcast?
#1
So, before all the rabid GAF faithful jump on me, would there be anyone interested in forming a gaming podcast made of the soundest, funniest, most rational minds on NeoGAF? Granted, it's a tall order getting people who live all over the world to come together for a few hours, then find someone to edit, but I think GAF has made bigger things happen before. The community would nominate other members to serve as the talent, then we could Kickstart it to raise funds -- don't think for a second we couldn't bring in the funds necessary for a great podcast; for all of the "thisisgafdude.jpg" you see, we're still one of the best, if not the premiere gaming forum on the internet. We make developers have meltdowns for Christ's sake.
The only podcast I listen to regularly is Weekend Confirmed and sometimes Bombcast, but it'd be cool to get a summation of the week's events from GAF's perspective. What do you think? |

It used to and it was awesome.
Though I consider 8-4 Play a semi-GAF podcast anyway. |

I would love to Kickstart/participate in something like this. I'm much better at communicating through speaking than I am through typing so I would love to be able to express myself properly to GAF. Although, there are probably a ton more members that would be better suited to a podcast than me.

Everyone wants to be on it but not everyone should be on it. Not everyone is suited to talk and represent the community as a whole, not to mention that people can be excellent mods or admins (if you want to represent it as such) but that doesn't necessarily translate to the podcasting world (no offense, etc)

Hosted by Evilore, each time with different guests considered authorities on a certain gaming topic - each guest representing an alternative point of view and acting like a douchebag to the person with the opposing perspective. Only then would it be 'Official.'

EDIT: Also you don't need a kickstarter for funds, jesus. Sign up at libsyn, spend $15 a month (if not less) you don't need a Kickstarter for a podcast, period. |

GAF is just too big of a community to have a few people represent it accurately. Instead, there are a few podcasts that target very specific niches within GAF. I think there's a HaloGAF podcast, for example (I remember reading they were starting one, dunno if it was ever done), and we're up to 4 Guild Wars 2 podcasts.

Kickstarting a GAF podcast is asking for a disaster to happen. People who paid would be pissed as fuck if there wouldn't be regular podcasts like every week or so.
I don't see any need for money anyway. Skype quality and lag is more than fine for something like this. |

The thing is you don't need much money at all to make it happen. So forget that, that's ridiculous - if you feel strongly about the community enough to record a podcast about it (which I question whether or not this is a niche that needs to be filled besides people self-fellating) then you're able to spend $10 a month on hosting.

So has the OP actually listened to some of the GAFcast episodes now?

Unfortunately I don't have any hardware at the moment since my gaming laptop died a month ago and haven't been able to save up to replace it. =/ |

Getting some people from this forum together for a regular (weekly) podcast sounds like a great idea; having it be an official "gaf-sanctioned podcast," however, does not. Unofficial on the other hand, sounds more reasonable/likely.
Agreed, one person would need to be a hardcore producer/editor. Everyone else should be consistent and representative of their different disciplines (indie gamer, mmo'r, business/politics) but all should have the same roots of course (basically, playing whatever the big current games are). It could be very interesting - but even if it did somehow manage to get started, I would be surprised to see it persist for very long, unless there were at least a couple of particularly hardcore people keeping the thing going strong. ALWW was really an excellent (and different) podcast, wish there were more productions out there along those lines |

"Hey... you aren't that big of an arsehole on the cast!" ;) Life caught up with us and we're now all over the place in terms of location. I guess Jonnyram and I live close by, but ddk and Blackace are some distance away. I miss doing the cast just for having everyone around as it was always a good laugh. Hiyoshi would piece it all together. Having a family also makes it hard to find time - especially as my wife works so kind of hard to dump the kid on her for the 5-6 hours or so to get the podcast done and out. As others have said, in my mind GAF has -two- goto podcasts : Red Sun Gamer and 8-4play. If you haven't listened to either, you should. Both are excellent. |

Really the only way to go about this is to find the niche, as HaloGAF did for instance, and cater to that audience as a jumping off point and don't use the NeoGAF name. It gives you a built-in audience that will hopefully keep you alive as you explore other avenues.

I've listened to a couple of the GAFcast before, and I always download the monopod. But I feel like you can't really represent GAF in podcast form unless topics and speakers and voted on by the community or if the mods or Evillore host it themselves. Edit: It would be cool to have a rotating cast from recent topics and community threads but who's going to organize it? And how do you make sure the "right" people/topics/communities are represented? |

With the exact same concept except not necessarily GAFers. Lining up guests and looking for people to write the music as we speak. |
