I wish they would beat him up more, I feel like I am on a healer lately the way I have been picked on. He had a game with zero deaths last night!

I'll be in touch with you folks in game, I finally got the rest of this team rounded out.

Also, Cheeks and I queued into a pug with a who's who from PVP guilds on the imp side. Played a PUG republic group, lost 100-0 in Novare Coast. Myself, Cheeks, and one other kept our mouths shut - the other 5 of our 8 took turns cutting each other person on the team down in every way possible.

These were good players too, but it was like watching a pack of wolves who all wanna be the alpha. Literally no cohesion, people just running every where with no backup like they were unstoppable. I LOL'd in between the tears.

In the last 5 days I've lost 9 games total (at least 12-15 games a night played, sometimes more)...two of those losses today with that same group of folks. Just wow.

Hmm was thinking of checking things out again quickly before my sub expired, yet after a fresh install my launcher won't update to download any patches that have came out in the last... 5 months?

Anyone know what's up? I'll rather not have to redownload everything...

I hope they take another look at Legacy Inheritance & Birthright gear in 1.4. It's so silly to see the Birthright kits on the daily commendation vendors for like 200-250 commendations per item. I actually kind of like how they are either static pieces or mod-capable shells (so that you don't just gear up in these items once and lose any sense of item progression while leveling), but the way the tokens are acquired is really whacked. You'd think it would be more tied to the Legacy system they are supposed to be a part of.

You'll notice that there's only two pieces of each tier available by Daily Commendations (and a couple pieces of Space vendor for even more ridiculous prices). The primary method of getting these things is simply world drops. Bio did state in a recent QA that they think the drop rate is too low and plan to boost it (not sure when).

Only one ive had drop was an offhand on Taris, saw the Infected bantha drop a few pieces when the Rakghoul event was going on as well.

Are they worth the comms? Well my agent is now level 26 and is still using the inheritance main and offhand for the past 10 levels and I still haven't seen a weapon that could come close stat wise to replace it, downside is you can't customise them obviously.

If you could use them on one character and then move them and use them on another lowbie character they would definetly be worth the price I think.

I know it's not the main way to get them, but it's the only direct method of getting them. They're just not valuable enough items to justify their cost even factoring in not having to deal with RNG from drops or crafting missions. I just feel like they need a revision as to how they're distributed, as it could address both the cost issue as well as how disconnected they feel from the Legacy system itself.

The funniest thing is that the pieces that can be purchased with Space Commendations cost 1300. ROFLMAO Bioware...nobody's doing 13 days of Space Dailies just to buy one of those things.

Ah, that's too bad. I already have a male 50 gunslinger and now I've gotten to level 20something on a female scoundrel. One of the best parts is the repartee between the male smuggler and his romantic interest companion Risha. The back and forth is great between them. Corso meanwhile is dull as dishwater.

R. Lutece, 1889

The year is 1912. Booker DeWitt, an ex-Pinkerton agent and former soldier, has been tasked with ascending to a city in the sky: Columbia. Led by Zachary Hale Comstock (referred to as “Father Comstock”), Columbia is an airborne “haven” nestled in the bosom of Americana, Exceptionalism, and Fundamentalism.

DeWitt’s impetus is simple: find the mysterious woman, Elizabeth, bring her to New York and absolve himself of the arcane debt.

Under the auspices his mission would be simple, Booker finds himself in the midst of a revolt, spurred on by the rebellious Vox Populi against The Founders, the city’s eponymous progenitors.

With Elizabeth’s enigmatic guardian and protector Songbird in tow, Booker must fend off scores of threats while uncovering the many mysteries surrounding the city in the sky.

Charge your controllers (360 players), make sure your console’s firmware is up-to-date (PS3 owners), make any last minute upgrades (PC master race folks), and take a look at the bevy of marketing material released by Irrational and 2K games.

The Debut Trailer

August 11th, 2010. In July of the same year, a mysterious website populated itself on to the stratosphere of the Internet with the question, “What is Icarus?” Various outlets were invited to a press event to learn what Irrational’s “Project Icarus” really was: BioShock Infinite.

Meant to only convey the kernels of the first BioShock game, exploration and improvisation in a unique microcosm, BioShock Infinite can be viewed as a new intellectual property from 2K and Irrational.

For a fascinating profile on the creative director of BioShock, System Shock 2, and BioShock Infinite, please peruse through the following: Ken Levine and the Infinite Idaho.

"I remember we were struggling with it back in the beginning and I went for a run one day and it was super sunny out. It was one of those brilliantly blue, sunny perfect days. And I remember looking at the sun and the color of the light and looking at a mailbox, and the reflection of the light on this black mailbox and how it looked. It was one of those perfect moments, like one I wished I could put in a bottle. And I'm like ‘Oh my gosh, that's what Columbia is!’ It is this sky color, it is this world, it is the memory of America that people think existed, but never really actually quite existed."

Bioshock Infinite - Review Thread [UP: IGN exclusive split PC/Console review up]
Answers are tentative. Should there be a different answer better suited for a question, please feel free to mention it in the thread.

Should I play BioShock before playing BioShock Infinite?

We’d recommend being familiar with BioShock, although playing through it is not required. Infinite features a new setting, cast of characters, and abilities to explore that vary significantly from the original BioShock.

We’d advise that players refrain from playing BioShock 1 and 2 immediately before powering through Infinite for fear of series fatigue, as several aspects of the games do overlap.

Will the PlayStation 3 version come with the original BioShock?

Yes, but only copies sold in North America. Whether it’ll be a digital download triggered by the game or content actually stored on disc has yet to be determined.

Will my PC be able to play BioShock Infinite?
  • BioShock Infinite Minimum PC requirements:
    • OS: Windows Vista Service Pack 2 32-bit
    • Processor: Intel Core 2 DUO 2.4 GHz / AMD Athlon X2 2.7 GHz
    • Memory: 2 GB
    • Hard Drive: 20 GB free
    • Video Card: DirectX10 Compatible ATI Radeon HD 3870 / NVIDIA 8800 GT / Intel HD 3000 Integrated Graphics
    • Video Card Memory: 512 MB
    • Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
  • BioShock Infinite Recommended PC requirements:
    • OS: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64-bit
    • Processor: Quad Core Processor
    • Memory: 4 GB
    • Hard Drive: 30 GB free
    • Video Card: DirectX11 Compatible, AMD Radeon HD 6950 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560
    • Video Card Memory: 1024 MB
    • Sound Card: DirectX Compatible

Bioshock Infinite PC performance thread

What advantages (if any) does BioShock Infinite take with the PC version?

The Steam version of the game will utilize both Big Picture Mode and support the use of controllers. Additional effects, greater draw distances, and high-resolution textures are just several of its features.

Are the console versions serviceable?

We’ve been told the console editions were developed simultaneously. One Irrational employee has likened playing the title on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as playing it on the PC toggled to “medium settings.”

We can’t be for sure until we play the game, but we’ll suspend our disbelief until the Digital Foundry results roll in.

We can’t recommend one version over another, but we can say the PC version will more than likely look the best of all three (depending on the strength of the user’s rig).

Will the soundtrack be released as a standalone product?

Irrational has confirmed both the Premium and Ultimate Songbird Edition will include the original score (as a digital download). They’ve yet to confirm or dismiss the notion of selling it as a standalone item.

Was the E3 2011 demo an accurate representation of the finalized game?

The demo was a standalone item made with assets available at the time, but its actual content was tentative. According to reports from IGN, certain events remain in the game, albeit repurposed and heavily altered.

Based on the few gameplay demonstrations we’ve seen since the 2011 glimpse, the basic mechanics remain relatively the same.

Did the game face a tumultuous development process?

We recommend you read the BioShock postmortem originally published in Game Developer Magazine and later presented on Gamasutra. The piece encapsulates Irrational’s development process.

The time put into creating the game strikes at just a modicum under 5 years, 2 and a half which was spent prior to the proper unveiling of the proof of concept. Its October (2012) release was pushed to February of 2013, and finally March of the same year.

In all, the game’s development was only protracted twice. This is no Episode Three.

Does BioShock Infinite feature a multiplayer mode?

No. BioShock Infinite is exclusively a single player experience.

A team was assigned to the task of experimenting with the notion of multiplayer, but it was ultimately cut at the behest of Ken Levine. No footage of the mode has surfaced, but we’ve been told it simply wasn’t working.

Should I read “Mind in Revolt” or “The Art of BioShock Infinite” before playing the game?

We’ve read through “Mind in Revolt.” It’s a succinct and effective read, especially if you want context for what you’ll encounter in Infinite. It's one of the few tie-in products we've read that actually seems purposeful and germane to the narrative and setting.

The book doesn’t spoil any of the events that happen IN THE GAME (it takes place prior to Booker DeWitt's arrival).

The novella unveils a bit of the origins of Columbia, its proclivity of Xenophobia and Exceptionalism, and unveils a few things about the Vox Populi and their leader Daisy Fitzroy.

If you're happier not knowing anything prior to experiencing BioShock Infinite, skip it and read it after your first play-through. It more or less creates context and insight for what you'll encounter, but if you'd rather be nonplussed by these "surprises," don't read it.

As for “The Art of BioShock Infinite,” we haven’t had the chance to read through it (yet). We suspect its staggered release two weeks after the game properly ships may be due to it featuring content heavy on spoilers. So read it at your own peril!

What is the DLC Season Pass?

After completing BioShock Infinite, Levine along with a team of others at Irrational set out to deliver three episodic installments of downloadable content. These episodes will feature an original story that further explores the lore of Columbia and further its canon within the series.

For additional funds, players can purchase access to these episodes, which will be delivered to them upon their completion.

Which VFX company created the commercial?

Blur Studio. Founded in 1995 and located in Venice, California, the company has created a litany of trailers, commercials, and concepts for the entertainment industry. Some examples include the Batman: Arkham City VGA reveal trailer, the Dishonored trailer, the original BioShock proof of concept, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo opening, The Simpsons Ride footage, and The Star Wars: Old Republic CGI trailers.

Recent Additions to the FAQ

How long should it take me to complete BioShock Infinite?

Ken Levine has said the game's campaign is tantamount to the original BioShock's experience. We'd approximate that to be around 10-15 hours, depending on the player's preference and style.

Was the game leaked prior to its release?

Yes, purportedly by a reviewer. It's the PS3 version. Fair warning: alleged spoilers are percolating out there. Be judicious.

Will Infinite feature audio logs (á la BioShock 1 and 2)?

Ken Levine has affirmed that audio logs are indeed present.

What should I do if I see an unmarked spoiler (with malicious intent) in this thread?

Don't quote it. Send a personal message to a moderator with a link to the alleged post. Don't give them the satisfaction of proliferation. Report it and ignore it.

Is <insert spoiler here> true? What about <insert spoiler here>? I need to know!

We tend to be dubious toward alleged spoilers prior to a game's release. Often time, purported spoilers get on the Internet and they're not contextually accurate.

To be frank, no one should have access to genuine spoilers. Prior to a game's release, the only people that do have information to spoil are reviewers who choose to be unscrupulous with their non-disclosure agreements and pirates.

There's no way to confirm or deny these articles percolating throughout the Internet until Infinite formerly hits store shelves.

A game isn't just its ending or "plot twists." It's the journey – the series of moments along the way. And no one can take that away from you, just shy of restraining you and forcing you to watch a video walkthrough.

Does the PlayStation 3 inundate players with a mandatory installation? Should I consider making a sandwich in the interim?

You can make a sandwich, but you won't have long! The PS3 version doesn't require an installation prior to starting Infinite's campaign.

New FAQ for launch day

How do I access 1999 mode without beating the game?

Use the perennial Konami code!

PS3: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, O, X.

360: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A.

Is the Move controller supported on the PS3 version?

Yes. Look for the option under the settings menu.

Does the Steam version support gamepads?

Yes.

I've finished the game! Where can I talk about that resonant ending and other such spoilers?
BioShock Infinite Analyzation and Dissemination thread (Fair warning: spoilers abound).

Which mode should I start with?

Seasoned shooter players may want to consider "Hard" mode. Newcomers should stick with "Normal" or "Easy." We'd recommend saving 1999 mode for a second play-through.

Man, since the transfer I've been winning quite a bit in PVP, probably about 70% of the time which is the opposite of how it was on my old server, but today....yeah, not only lost every game but got completely destroyed every game. Every team we fought was a top of the line pre-made. I guess they're all practicing for tomorrow?

I'm with both of you. I've got a 50 assassin and 42 sage on Fatman. Baby come back!

Twas the night before ranked, and all I could wonder...are we gonna look back two months from now and wish they had never put this in the game? God I hope not. I'm just thankful you can't have 8 mans in normal WZs.

EDIT: This from someone who solely PVPs every night.

Servers down and patches up.

Got a 230mb patch at the moment, hope they get the servers up early!

Edit: Maintenance extended 2 hours... that bodes well

My guild isn't ready for ranked. May try and get a team together, but I don't hold much hope for doing well.

Wtb ranked with less people than 8.

Yep, I thought the 4 hour window they gave was too ambitious.

Nice I have time for a breakfast run.

Hurry up anyway. Time to make some serious credits today.

Hopefully this maintenance deals with the awful lag I've been seeing in The Black Hole and Belsavis the past week. Dailies are grindy enough without being a GCD behind on all of your attacks.

It will probably be a long while before the paid transfers come along. They want to control and monitor the population, they aren't going to suddenly open it so that people can go anywhere.
