That had pretty much every fox news/republican talking point and buzzword in 1 article. It's almost impressive really.

Shame. He's one of my favorite authors. I got a used copy of Maps in a Mirror on amazon and its really good.

And I'll agree that there is certainly a correlation between being closeted and lashing out at homosexuals. Some people are just hateful assholes, though. |

Why do homophobes always pull the "I've got gay friends card" its just like the whole "I've got black friends too" for racists.

I saw the joke. I thought you were trying to make a point and a joke in the same post. You can't fool me.
edit: We don't need your clarification! Now you have admitted the joke failed by trying to explain it. A misstep, my friend. |

It's a weird thing, to try and separate the art from the artist(or if you even choose to do that), and I think everybody has to deal with that in their own way. |

Ever since I've found out Orson Scott Card is a batshit homophobe, I haven't been able to enjoy anything he's written or participated in. :( Such a shame, but I can live safely without him.

They think it legitimizes their argument, or so I would assume. There is a lack of critical thinking skills implicit in their position, so I would say such a statement is not surprising from such a person.

That's impossible because the gay rights side has no real logical points!

I might be a homophobe, but I don't actually have any gay friends. Maybe someday ...
edit: Oh, shit. I just realized I have a gay acquaintance. That is close enough to a friend to call him a friend for these purposes, right?

Maybe it's not fiction, maybe he's relating his childhood experiences in a fictional novel so we THINK it's fiction, and he can admit the truth to the world without actually admitting the truth...
![]() I haven't read the series in years, but I'll be re-reading this summer, and I'll reevaluate my opinion in a few months lol |

Has anybody else here read his Homecoming series? Then we can talk about a main character he's written that actually is gay.

"It's about giving the left the power to force anti-religious values on our children. Once they legalize gay marriage, it will be the bludgeon they use to make sure that it becomes illegal to teach traditional values in the schools."
"Normalizing a dysfunction will only make ours into a society that corrodes any loyalty to it, as parents see that our laws and institutions now work against the reproductive success (not to mention happiness) of the next generation." "It's a vote for freedom of religion – the only right that is in serious danger in America today." Seriously? |

His work on one of the Elseworlds Iron Man comics sort of lends to that as well. The chubby Stane kid is a perv, making questionable S&M jokes with a certain type of slant.

Buying Shadow Complex before knowing all that stuff about him doesn't make me a homophobe.
Right? >_> |

Isn't it pretty common to have batshit authors who produce good books?
I mean, Roald Dahl has some nice books but he is your quintessential "new media are evil/angry senior" folk. |

In cases like this it's obviously much better to separate the author from his work and your enjoyment of it. I mean, J.D. Salinger drank his own urine, but I don't let disturbing stuff like that get in the way of my enjoyment of Catcher in the Rye. But then he wouldn't be able to propose! |

Ugh.
So here's the thing: my parents are in NC, and the vote is on Tuesday. I intend to give them a call and talk about this, but I'm really not looking forward to it. How do you respond to "the gays already have equal rights?" Aside from, "um, no." And does anyone have any links for this "they'll hijack our schools with The Gay!" bs? I'm a-Googling away, but haven't had much success. |

Wow, so much bullshit in there, and so much patronising too. If he does actually have gay friends, I hope they punch him in the mouth. What a miserable human being.
