The more I read about OSC and the more I read his anti-gay articles, he just strikes me as a deeply, deeply repressed gay guy.

Yeah, I wonder what his time spent with his gay friends is like. Full of eye-rolling debate, I bet. Sounds like fun if so.

This guy is a complete jerk. So vile.
Also, Ender's Game is the worst book I've ever read. I would of stopped reading right away, but I had to finish it for a class. Though if I'd known the author's penchant for hate mongering, I would of flat out refused to read it. I'm not supporting anything that this guy has any part of. |

His line of reasoning is used heavily in Australia to argue against gay marriage. A lot of good changes came about in the Rudd government to remove the discrimination present in many laws. They were really quite sweeping charges, but of course Rudd and the ALP as it currently is seems so fucking afraid to actually stand up for what they believe in. They seem ashamed of it.
I personally think it fundamentally comes down to equal treatment under law. Just make it equal so we don't have all this 'separate but equal' pantomime bullshit. |

I enjoyed a couple of his titles (not Ender's Game, blegh) but that was before I knew what kind of asshat he was...

At first I thought you were blowing things utterly out of proportion -- the dude isn't homophobic, he just doesn't have a proper understanding of the issue. Then I got to the line about "giving the left the power to force anti-religious values on our children" and everything just went straight to shit. By the end of the article I was actively facepalming.
I think the line that really deserves underlining is this:

It's weird how he feels about things considering his books are all about accepting other that are different and don't be so rushed to destroy others.

lol, why is it that every gay-bashing closeted nut claims to have "Gay friends"?
I'd like to meet Orson Scott Card's "Gay Friends". I'm sure they're totally happy not having the same basic rights as straight couples and are totally chill about their bud Orson's views.

Do schools really teach kids pro-gay propaganda in USA? Reading all those convervative rants it seems like there are whole lessons regularly tought about this subject in schools.
Anyway, as long as you don't try to force churches to do gay marriages (which would be completely retarded) I don't really get what's the problem. Civil marriage is like every other civil contract, why wouldn't it be allowed for homosexuals? |

lol at the outrage people have here.
The author hates gays?!? Ender's Game now has zero literary value! Hypocritical really. Some of your favorite music artists are nothing more than two bit criminals who have actually committed terrible crimes against other people while Orson Scott Card is someone with an opinion. But that doesn't stop you from listening to their music. Your favorite rapper could be grand theft auto, but Orson Scott Card is a homophobe stop the presses everyone. |

Have you read an OSC book? I'd say he is thinking about children... a little too much.

The sad part is this is actually a tamer version of Orson Scott Card on the topic of homosexuality. Check out what he had to say back in 1990 (yes, he's been gnashing his teeth about this for a long, long time):
http://www.nauvoo.com/library/card-hypocrites.html He hasn't evolved much at all, but his views used to be even more reprehensible, if it can be believed. The best part about that essay is his attempt to deflect any attacks on his opinions by castigating those who would label him a homophobe and predicting he'd receive that sort of response. It's basically the equivalent of someone going off on a racist tirade and then saying "and now look at all these people who are calling me racist! Hah! I told you so." Down towards the end, in one of the responses to the reactions to his original essay, he attempts to draw an analogy between someone like himself being called a homophobe and a gay person being called a faggot, saying it's an example of hypocrisy. Swell chap. |

Only just read Enders Game recently, liked it a lot and have a hard time understanding how you can think it's the worst book ever written... Not that it's the most fantastic thing ever but damn, I have read a lot worse. The author sure is acting like a fucking idiot here though, but it's not exactly going to stop me from enjoying his work.
But it's all about looking cool and edgy. Might as well just post a didn't read lol gif. |

because he does have gay friends, gay friends which he probably has sex with... Well, i dont know for sure, but his statements remind me of Ted Haggards who was also a homophobe who enjoyed the gay sex. And the way he phrases his statements makes it seem like he likes to phase in and out of different sexual orientations and has same sex desires from time to time.

Looking at how well he's doing he definitely is getting away with it :) Becase while most people might find his views to be laughable at the same time they don't care about gay rights enough to stop them from enjoying Ender's Game.

True that's a good point. Still i have a hard time understanding where all the hate comes from. If the dude was literally hiring groups of hunters to round up homosexuals i could see it. But dude literally uses that money for ads, on an issue where your mind is probably made up one way or another.
Plus he's already rich like few others. I just don't see where someone makes up their mind to not buy shadow complex because of this |

I've always thought the whole debate is a bit weird. I mean the holy book clearly says homosexuality is a sin right? And the churches and people who worship there (catholics?) believe that it's true. So how the hell you force them to believe otherwise? And why would you want to get married in a place that denounces your very being?
But then again I haven't done much research so I'm sure I'll get informed. |

I think if anything a letter written to this guy would do much, much more than simply refusing to buy his game. Giving high-fives to each other on the internet certainly won't help either. |
