Bring back the original Subway cut. #1

Old Cut.

New Cut.

Quote:
I don't know if many of you other people noticed this, but looking back, didn't the new cut start appearing just about the same time those new gourmet breads came out? Not to mention that @%!&*? hand puppet with the voice of the parrot from Aladdin. I believe that the introduction of these breads was not simply to allow the sandwich eater more choice, but also to distract patrons from the fact that it was being cut using an inferior method.

Now, I'm all for innovation in the wheat sciences, but these breads hardly innovate. I was going through the drive-through at a Subway near my home, and I asked the gentleman behind the voice in the speaker to explain the difference between these new-fangled types of bread and, I kid you not, this is a quote:

Yeah, I miss that cut. One day it was just gone.

Hopefully this thread gets more attention than your last appeal to sanity.

I don't miss it any more - the employees at all of the nearby Subways seem to have finally figured out how to properly fold the bread over on the massive heap of toppings I request of them without it spilling everywhere.

Eating it without making a mess is pretty easy too.

Ha! I was just thinking of this the other day. When they first made the transition, they had signs saying to just ask for the old way if you didn't want it the new way. I wondered if I asked for them to do it now, if the person would be able/know how to.

It made Subway Subway, the Jared ad campaign and "new" breads ruined the experience. They moved to premeasured portions and shit. I remember when it was "wheat or white" and that was it.

I worked at subway when they changed the cut. We held off doing the newest cut until wee were forced to. We were rebels. That and giving cheap subs to classmates with huge tits.

More everything fit in the old cut. These were the days before the 5 dollar footlong shit when Subway was still up and coming.

Seriously, every subway I've been to in this area has done the wedge cut from the top. Even with their new gourmet breads. Maybe your subways just suck.

Doesn't make it right. I remember when all Subways had the NYC subway system as wallpaper.

Well you're just incredibly lucky then, look at their corporate website, no wedge to be seen.

I'm not even sure if we use the old cut or the new cut but I have to say the old cut looks weird as fuck?

I really don't understand at all. You cut out a piece of the bread, put toppings in and throw out the extra piece of bread?

You cut out the large wedge of bread and place all the ingredients in the bread and place the wedge of bread back on top.

Oh, I didn't realize they slapped it back on. I guess they hollow it out?

I prefer Jimmy John's for subs, but hate how they hollow out the bread a bit to make it sit nicer. I'll eat it with more bread and more mess, thanks.

When I lived in Beijing, I went to a sandwich shop where they used the wedge cut.

It was GLORIOUS.

It was like creating a place for the ingredients and then putting the bread back on top. Bread on top and bottom like an actual sandwich.

I've switched to flatbread lately though and haven't looked back.

It's not good. It's terrible. People bitched and moaned about it for years, that's why Subway gave up and changed to a proper cut.

If you like half of the sandwich shooting out on the wrapper.

Old cut.

They stopped doing the wedge around the same time they stopped giving out the stamps you could put on your Subway card, right? I used to have a stack of stamped cards for free subs because my friend worked there and would just hook me up with extra stamps.

True, Subway stamps were awesome. Then they decided for the new shitty bread, no stamps and the new shitty cut. The sellout was complete.

The Subway BMT use to have Bologna but no longer. Welcome to the new shitty mass market Subway.

Subway used to make a great sandwich before premeasured portions, the shitty new "gourmet" breads and the new cut. They used to have NYC subway wallpaper and would load on portions. No more.

I understand the frustration but Subway has way bigger problems than the cut of their bread.

Remember when Quiznos used to be better than Subway? Now I can barely tell their sandwiches apart. Race to the bottom... can't stand it.

At least I have Ike's Place. Wish there was one on every corner.

I only eat subway when I'm really broke or don't feel like driving as far.
