Mine is really common, it's the most common Chinese last name. So whenever a new social network 2.0 thingy open up it's fucking land rush to grab my name. Fortunately Tino is a less common name. |

"Lily" is getting insanely popular all of the sudden.
I have a niece by that name, but it's like every other baby has it too. I have to be more careful when I name my kids. I've liked Adel (as a boy's name) for a long time, but it's gotten quite popular for girls in the last 2 years. :( Stupid Adele. |

It never was a popular name, in America, it seems.
I would have expected it to be more popular until WWII, but it vanished much earlier. In fact, Hitler initially made the drop in popularity slow down.

If I ever had a son I'd call him Miles. It's not a common name, though its popularity has been rising. |

There were two other people in my elementary school classes that have the exact same first and last name as me, there are three people in my job with the exact same first and last name, and there are two people in my department with the same first name and last initial. I share the same first and last name with my father who also worked in the same industry.
I share my first and last name with dozens and dozens of people with the number one Google hit being someone who died in the 50s. I have to admit, I love the relative anonymity since its so damned hard to pull up my info on the internets. |

Huh. Apparently 'Zula' was a common enough name to break the top 1000 but dissapeared completely before 1930. And Zada was even more popular. Actually Z names for girls were pretty popular for girls at the time. Weird how they've almost totally vanished.
Holy shit. People actually name their child 'Adonis'? That just seems cruel. |

I was the only Ryan in my classes until 8th grade. In 8th grade the Christian schools mixed with our junior high and there were 5 Ryans in Catholic school.

The real trick is to pick a name that's not common, but not overly rare. If I had a child right now, I'd probably go for something ranked 100th or so on the list. Unique enough that few children will have it, yet common enough that they won't be bullied over it. =P

Is there a more generic name in anglo-saxon cultures than John? It's not just it's super common, it's also super bland.

These twins at my elementary school were named Dontarius and Montarius. They were even dressed up alike, poor souls.
Personally, my favorite stupid name is Dweezil. Can't beat that. |

I have both a common last name and a common first name (#3 the year I was born)...which sucks. I think there are 3 people in this one county with the exact same name...if I expand to the whole city there's at least one guy who has the same middle initial. If you have a relatively common last name...please do not give your kid a top 10 name. That is all.
That said, it is possible to go too far in the other direction; when my daughter was born we went with a top 50 name, but not in the top 10...and a rare middle name - taken from my grandmother, so it's more of a classic name than one of the new wave of crappy names - with an uncommon initial ('K'). We're both pretty happy with the result and so far she seems to be too...of course the real test will come in adolescence. We'll see. Naming your kid is serious business. If you have some weird names you need to get off your chest, adopt a cat. |

My name is not on any of those lists.
In the dark and distant future, every male child will have a name with "-den" affixed to the end. Jayden, Hayden, Kayden...how did it come to this? |

My name was never TOO popular. Its peak popularity was at 18 the year I was born. Now it's down into the 200s, thank goodness. |
