I used ICQ for UO and then found out about IRC when playing DAoC

IRC chats were something I used when I first used the Internet. Otherwise I don't use it much unless I like the community that is in it. What can be great with those IRC is the type of spontanous jokes, interesting discussions that can occur.

I don't think many of my friends are so familiar with it if they started using the Internet late. I personally don't go to those channels, but chats provided by a website/message board.

Use it constantly to this day. Whole group of friends have an irc channel we're in all during the day. Keep in touch for social events, just general rants about work, questions about certain work stuff (IT related). I connect through a command line client Irssi on a remote box that I have a screen session on. So i can continue where i left off of no matter where I'm at, and not missing any previous chatter.

I only got in IRC in the last couple of years. Haven't really asked out right if any of my friends use it, but I highly doubt they do.

I run irc on a linux slice all the time, a lot of my friends (IRL or online) use it. Its the best for finding scrims and such for competitive games. Quake pickups or tf2 or whatever.

Most of my friends know what IRC is and a lot are still using it. I have been using it for 16 years and I have no plans to stop using it.

my friends think irc is this seedy place where the slimiest internet people go to hack the planet.

Briefly used IRC years ago. My brother used it slightly longer than I did, which doesn't mean much. Most of my friends don't know about IRC.

I do use it daily, and thank god GAF's unofficial channel, #ga, is busier than RPJ IRC apparently is.
What server is #ga on? I started using IRC again recently because of flexget (most awesome).

Generally, I've stayed away from IRC...I don't know why.

I've been using irc for around 8/9 years, and I think I'm the only person I know in my daily life that uses it.

I've been using it less lately, as tge only real channel I ever frequented has shrunk from a regular 10 or so people has dwindled to just me and maybe one or two other people.

I always used mirc until I got my mac, and now I use colliquoy or however it's spelled.

So what's GAF's IRC server/channel?

I used to be a heavy user in the late 90's, but ICQ then MSN took over for me.

I've known about it forever but I hardly ever use it.
