I'm curious to see how much money the Avengers can make from Monday to Thursday this week. The Hunger Games made $36M during its first 4 weekdays. Avengers doesn't have summer weekdays to make TDK's $80M from Mon-Thurs, but there is a chance it could do $50M.
If so it will take the quickest to $250M record. If not, it will at worst tie TDK, reaching that mark on Day 8. The Avengers could get as high as $350M by the end of next weekend if it holds well. $310M with mediocre holds. |

So this should be on track to cross 1 billion, probably get close to 1.3 billion right? I'm thinking there will be a lot of repeat views, I went on the second day and some guy next to me was talking about how this was his third viewing and he was planning on more.

It has a good shot at topping Deathly Hallows 2 worldwide, and will be at ~$950m by the end of next weekend.

I wish this would beat AVATAR. Seriously if people can repeat view that, there's got to be repeat viewings of this flick.

We might as well. Lord knows I didn't start the derail, but once it's off the tracks I have zero qualms with stepping on the gas.
Let's start with how many Whedon films it takes to gross a Cameron film. |

TDKR will do $210 million+.
take that to the bank. Everyone who paid to see The Avengers in 3D IMAX will see TDKR in 3D IMAX. and their mothers. |

What if Joss Whedon wrote the next AHBUHDAR, with the Assistant To Mr. Downey Jr. directing?
We given the credit for the film's automatic success to the Storyboard Artist, right? |

Looking at the overseas number to date, The Avengers is outgrossing Transformers 3 in most territories. The Avengers won't match TF3's China and South Korea grosses, but a much stronger European performance will make up for that. Seeing as TF3 made 770M overseas, I think that the Avengers will gross around $800-850M. Chinese and Russian legs will make a big difference though. Domestically, if the Avengers holds like Harry Potter 7.5 or Spider-man 3, it will gross $450M. I think that is the realistic minimum for this movie. If the movie behaves more like Spider-man or the Dark Knight, we are looking at well over $600M domestically. Taking both markets into consideration, I think $1.2B (450M domestic/750M overseas) is the lowest reasonable total the Avengers will end up with. The high end could exceed $1.5B. |

No 3D, no added hype from the very public death of a popular young actor and a acclaimed "final performance". Not a chance. It might beat out Avengers in the long run (I think TDKR will have longer legs), but no way it tops this opening. Honestly, I think this is a record that's going to stand for a while. I can't think of anything that could bring enough to the table any time soon. It beat out Harry Potter, which was the finale of a 10 year old beloved franchise that had massive cross-demographic appeal. This movie itself was the culmination of 4 years of very focused and brilliant marketing. |

And TDKR just needs to increase 20% from TDK's admissions to top $210m. Historically, for a sequel to an incredibly well received film, that's par for the course. Not to mention WB is marketing this as the definitive end, which has increased BO for films as well.

if that's the case, then they can't charge people stupid prices...idk. how much is IMAX without 3D? Hmmmmmm.... also, TDKR will be right there. Nolan's Batman movies have attracted an audience much wider and diverse than the superhero/comic nerd crowd. It has them too, but a far expanded audience. I again say: all the same people who saw The Avengers will go see TDKR. And their family members who are ordinarially turned off by superhero flix. Whether those additional people will translate to more money is a question I can't answer, since I don't know how big a price difference IMAX 3D is compared to IMAX. But I expect more total people to see TDKR in the opening weekend.

Suppose it helps there are no other major pop corn films out in the same period. Either way, lots of crow served. Well done Avengers studio/team.

Just remember the lead up to Avatar. 6 weeks from release and no mainstream audiences had any fucking clue what Avatar was. Then FOX started their insane marketing campaign and the trailer was attached to absolutely every single movie in theatres and there was something like 35 different TV spots playing on tv all the fucking time. WB will pull the same shit in a couple weeks. |

Who the fuck cares if this beats Avatar? Maybe dial it back a bit and concentrate on the fact that a fucking Avengers film has done so well.
5 years ago, the movie-going public barely had any idea who Iron Man was. Now this shit just happened. That's insane enough without wondering whether it could ever beat a fucking Cameron movie before it's even made its first billion. |

You just made this thread dangerous. GREEN SCAR is right. The fact we have a AVENGERS film is amazing in itself. We've got well recognized heroes in a film together teaming up that completely hypes and excites fans and new fans of the movies. This truly is a great time to be a comic book fan and a comic movie fan. Oh and it made a ton of bank. |

Nolan couldn't bear to rip people off and compromise his film with shitty post-converted 3D, he has morals; unlike Mr. Whedon. The number of IMAX screens simply don't compare to the number of 3D screens; I'd love to see TDKR blow past this movie and make all the Whedonites cry but I just can't see it happening man. |

Why? It's another tech movie from Cameron with a source he lifted from someone else. Let's not forget his inability to edit. The mans a marginally talented director who knows how to use tech effectively, but let's not kid ourselves and think Avatar is nothing more than a tech demo.

Same here. I remember after last year, people were saying maybe there was comic book fatigue because Thor and Cap did not do as well as the Iron Man films. This pretty much put that notion to rest. Avengers was awesome! Now bring on Spiderman and Dark Knight.
