I had it at $180 weekend, man was I wrong! I'd still say TDK edges it out, $215-225

I see TDKR realistically getting 170-190 Million but its overall Domestic figure in the end higher

The fact that we have an Avengers film is a miracle itself.
The fact that it's fantastic is a bonus. The fact that it is a huge success is another bonus. |

This is really the elephant in the room about TDKR. TDK got a lot of extra press and coverage, and hype because of Ledgers death and the hype of him having an amazing final performance. |

By the beard of Odin. I never expected the avengers to do this well. I myslef thought it would only make around 145 or 150 mill. But the great word of mouth and the fact that the movie itself is such a great film and crowd pleaser just rocketed this into a monster hit. It even pleased Solo and Jett!! WTF.

Yeah, bookmark my post, but TDKR is NO WAY going to break the 200 mil barrier for opening weekend. It will definitely do 125+ mil opening weekend but not gonna break the opening weekend record.
when this prediction is ashes, you have my permission to troll. |

People keep saying this here, yet at this time in 2008 most people here were predicting TDK would be 2nd to Indiana Jones 4 and possibly even 3rd to Iron Man after that surprising run.
We are 2 1/2 months from release, and the TV spots haven't even begun. |

It feels good to like Marvel and DC equally. Avengers was fantastic and I'm thrilled to see it doing well. And I think I'll enjoy The Dark Knight Rises just as much.
It's a great summer for superhero flicks. |

TDKR is around 180-190+Mil, might even get close to 200Mil barrier for OW, but if these are estimates already included for showing till tonight, no way is it blowing past Avengers with an extra $25mil
TDKR would have to have the best Midnight showings ever, Friday, Saturday, Sunday all Sold Out to even get to this magical $225mil OW |

This would have never happened if audiences had not already gotten to know Iron Man (especially), Thor and Cap (and Hulk somewhat) via their own movies. A large portion of this audience is showing up because they want to see Downey Jr. as Iron Man again, and they want to see how he interacts with Hemsworth, et al.
Marvel/Disney interweaving all of these movies to lead up to the big one was a masterful move. |

For TDKR to beat Avengers's newly established record it would have to sell a heck of a lot more tickets, I don't know if that's even possible.
Nah because it would have been before the Avatar-lead 3Dsplosion. |

True, no 3D surcharge, but ticket prices nowadays are usually around $14 for Digital showings(basically all theaters) and there are enough LieMAX's and IMAX's so screens shouldn't be the problem. The same crowd who saw Avengers will probably check it out, plus DKR has the summer going for it. No school, no Finals etc... I stay behind that $215-225 estimate. Bookmarked.

For TDKR to actually beat the Avengers it would have to smash opening weekend admissions by 10-15% without 3D. |

Someone tell Nolan and WB to do the fastest and worst post 3D conversion of all-time.

If WB angle TDKR as a Return-of-the-king type end of an era event, they will definitely do fucking gangbusters. As it stands right now, the marketing's been a bit melodramatic and not very exciting. Its hard to call right now.
I don't care if TDKR or Avengers do better, just that quality comic cinema is getting the attention it deserves. Whichever wins, we win
