I finally got around to watching Toy Story 3. #1

Wow. Just wow. The animation has increased tenfold since the original and 2, and the plot got really good towards the middle and the end. I almost teared up a few certain parts, but man was it an excellent movie. I know I'm like a year or 2 late but I really want to watch it again.

I'm glad the movie had a reasonable resolution and it offered inevitable closure to the Andy saga. The part that got me the most was when Andy was giving the little girl his toys and he didn't want to give up Woody. I almost bawled at that point.

The oh so serious plot twist with the bear running a little gang of misfits because he got left so he thought all toys will be abandoned some day was really dark for a Pixar movie. Loved it.

Was disappointed in the lack of sing alongs though. I guess Disney stopped doing that in the 90s, I suppose.

And follow it up with his Jack and Jill review.

But yeah, Toy Story 3 was awesome. God, that ending was some powerful stuff.

I thought it was awful. But I know I'm in the vast vast vaaaaast minority. I just thought it was dull, unfunny, corny, and pointless. I watched how to train your dragon and toy story 3 back to back on a long plane ride and enjoyed dragon far far more.

I can't help but think it is the weaker of the trilogy. It felt too manufactured for me, too much polishing on a base with less substance than the previous movies.

I don't know how anybody can hate any of the Toy Story's. Like one more than the other? Sure. Hate? Gtfo.

Either way, as far as i'm concerned it's irrelevant as long as it made millions of kids across the world smile and family's laugh. and grown men cry

Nah, I'm not too fond of Toy Story 2 and the fact that it was originally intended to be direct to video may have had something to do with it's terrible plot.

It was a disappointing sequel to a great film, it's pretty mediocre. 3 on the other hand felt like a proper sequel to Toy Story.

You know, I actually think that Toy story 3 is much better made than Toy story 2, and a better movie because of it. But I kinda felt disappointed by 3 somehow. Maybe it was not as ambitious as I hoped it to be. Too much Hype I guess.

Edit: Now I remember, I did not like Spanish Buzz. He Is my favorite character, and I thought Toy Story 3 used him less than the previous movies. Even though 2 was just recycling the joke from the first film.

I enjoyed 3 more than 2. 2 just felt a little souless and I still think Jessie is an annoying character.

How do you guys get so into a movie that it makes you cry??
I don't get it. I keep reading and hearing about movies that make you tear up, so I go to watch them and... nothing.
Whilst I did enjoy this movie, it didn't even come CLOSE to brining me to tears at any point like some of you say.
I wish it did. I wish SOMETHING did! A game, movie, book, anything other than real life! I just can't seem to get emotional enough.

The music, the colors, the tone, the script. The fact that you can "feel" for the characters(in this case the toys) and after seeing the 1st one and all of the flashbacks 3 had, and the scenes where you saw him growup and abandon his toys, man. Hurt me deep.

Toy Story 2 was awesome, guys. The introduction was funny (fighting Zerg).

It had a lot of depth that people don't see. The point I got from it was that the toys all felt very special and then they come to the toy store and realize they're just duplicates off the factory line.

I don't remember the whole plot but I remember enjoying it immensely when I saw it.

Toy Story 3 was also great, but I did get that feeling like it was too predictable. We kind of knew the direction of the story and just wanted to see how Pixar was going to handle it.

I watched Toy Story 3 last year and thought it was good, but ultimately not quite as good as Toy Story 2, which I loved.

Since then, my son has had all three movies on repeat practically 24x7 and I've come to the conclusion that Toy Story 3 is my favorite of the bunch. A great story about friendship and family, lovely visuals/sound, dialog and jokes that crack me up every time, and great performances. Michael Keaton as Ken in particular is damn near perfect - his delivery is spot on.

It surprised me a little when I came to that conclusion, but it really is an excellent movie.

I can't decide if the end bit (that the OP refers to) or if the bit in the incinerator got to me the most. That sense of impending doom and all the toys holding hands about to accept fate.

Man looking at it the movie did have its dark moments, like they made it for the people who are now grown up as like I have been more or less Andy's age through the whole thing.

Also it really hit home for me because my mum and I went to see it about a month before I got my A-Level results to find out if I was going off to uni so at the time it was just like what I was going through.

Beautiful music combined with beautiful imagery/character moments usually gets me. Most recently watching the ending of Gattaca gave me a lump in my throat.

It took every ounce of inner strength I had not to cry in front of everybody when I watched this.
I wanted to really bad though, felt like my heart was exploding from holding it in. I was still recovering from the furnace part when the ending hit me like a ton of bricks.

I cried so much during the last 2 endings. It was so embarrassing. I had to quickly wipe the tear before the theater lights went back on. Thankfully everyone else in the cinema had been crying too.

Originally Posted by Falcs00: View Post

The first one was when the toys were about to get tossed into the fire. I don't know why but for some reason it suckerpunched me. I suddenly thought that maybe there's a likelihood that this is it. This is how it'll end. And to see the toys just held their hands together like friends almost made me tear up.

The 2nd one, however, was the one that really got me because it reminded me so much of how many friends I've part ways since I was kid. The toys separation with Andy just reminded me of the fact that friendship comes and goes and it made really sad because of how true it was. And how bittersweet the whole thing turned out to be. I love that the film didn't exactly end in a happy note but rather a bittersweet one.

I thought it was pretty much a perfect ending for the trilogy. The moment when they all accept that they will die in the incinerator was amazing. The ending as well.

As much as I loved it, I hope they leave it at that and don't do a fourth.

Really? Man, I get choked up over everything. Christ I cried at some point during every episode of Ken Burns The Civil War. I think it's the music, it really gets to me. And I can often empathize with the characters. Like, I know how Woody felt in that screenshot above.

I felt Toy Story 3 was the weakest of the trilogy, but only because the first two might be my favorite movies ever. The ending of 3 was absolutely perfect though. The final shot is even an exact copy of the very first shot of Toy Story 1.

I've never cried with a movie, almost did when I was a kid with Wilson in Cast Away. But I was watching Peter Weir's The Way Back yesterday in Netflix, and it almost got me when Irena dies.

BTW, it is an awesome movie, you should watch it if you have not seen it, and you got Netflix.

3>2>1. Seriously.

But all three are amazing. Just varying degrees of amazing.

Which is why I was dismayed at talk of a 4. No, just... 3 wrapped it up perfectly. Stop.
