Prometheus gets an R rating? [Update: CONFIRMED] #1

Quote:
There’s been heavy speculation over whether Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi horror film Prometheus would receive an R-rating. The blockbuster film carries a big price tag, and a PG-13 rating would probably mean a much higher take at the box office. However, when Steve spoke with 20th Century Fox CEO Tom Rothman, Rothman said the movie “will not be compromised either way,” and the studio would accept whatever the MPAA handed down. According to a pre-sale ticket stub, the MPAA has handed down an R-rating for Prometheus. I’m not sure if that automatically makes the movie better, but I’m happy for the opportunity to see an ambitious summer blockbuster with an R-rating. The last R-rated sci-fi summer blockbuster I can recall is 2003′s The Matrix Reloaded. However, it’s late and I’m tired, so I might be forgetting another R-rated summer sci-fi movie released since then. Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8th. Hit the jump to check out the ticket and the film’s trailer.
Of course we have to wait for the official announcement on the MPAA ruling, since the source of this photo is some IMDB user...

I'm not sure how trustworthy a pre-sale ticket stub would be for something like this.

Nonetheless, would be awesome.

I just sort of assumed that would happen. I don't get PG-13 vibes from the trailer at all.

I'm surprised, what with the refusal from Scott and Lindelof to confirm the movie's intended rating. If it's indeed R I imagine it's a very meek R.

Great, they owe Ridley Scott after forcing him to cut an hour of footage from Kingdom of Heaven.

There's so much inconsistency as far as how films are rated, people really shouldn't put much in to what the rating is.

Probably just means they were shooting for a PG-13, it got submitted to the MPAA and they gave it an R rating for some stupid shit and they're just going with it.

No way a theater would have that info ahead of the MPAA or the official site. It's a placeholder.

I doubt it. If FOX wanted them to shoot for a PG13 and some little thing got them an R, FOX would appeal that shit in a fucking heartbeat and make any minor necessary cuts to ensure a PG13.

I'm just concerned about the "will not be compromised" part. Rating doesn't matter so much as studio-influenced cuts.

So disappointed that I missed most of the Prometheus trailer today before The Avengers because I had to go to the washroom. :/
I am super excited about this film currently, second only the The Dark Knight Rises. :)

Hopefully not. I've been assuming that the movie would be PG-13, TBH. I'd say it'd be pretty obvious at the script stage if it was an R-rated film.

Have you heard that audio recording? Nudity is not one of the reasons this is going to be R rayed.

It'd be pretty awesome if this is a real R-rated film. Possibly three big budget R-rated films during the summer hasn't happened in, well, I don't remember the last time (and two from FOX no less!).

This. The substantive decisions about the films content and ultimate rating were made before shooting began.

But with that said if they did shoot for a hard PG-13, got hit with an R, but believed in the cut of the film and stuck with it then good on them. Would have been easy to cut the offending material at that point if it was borderline.

I'm thinking the same...that being said, Scott did say he was filming a PG-13 and R-rated cut...I guess it could be possible that they like the R-rated cut enough that they went with it...?

I was under the impression that not all of the audio recording was from the actual film. The people talking in it sounded like caricatures.

Also my guess for the offending content that ultimately landed this thing an R is the caesarian alien removal that shit looks intense
