Yeah... they're not going to release a greenband trailer with all the intense images from an R rated movie. I don't think that is possible.

The trailer probably hasn't touched the surface of the crazy shit we're gonna see in this movie.

Joss Whedon helms the first film to break $200 million in its opening weekend, and now Fox is actually doing what people want them to do. Crazy world we live in.

Call me crazy, but that almost sounds like it may be the trimmed down version of the film and it got an R anyway.

Now all this movie needs is a custom Fox intro like Alien 3 where the last note eerily drags on.

I'm re-watching the first 2 Alien movies this week. I hardly remember Alien and I have quite a few blank spots from Aliens, so a refreshing is in order before watching Prometheus.

Why does no nudity disappoint? None of the alien movies had human nudity.

And Jett is right, this looks like a meek R. The others were rated for strong violence, gore, language and or grotesque images. This is sci-fi violence, disturbing images and brief language.

What is the difference between "Disturbing" and "Grotesque" in this case?

Who knows till we see it? I am however willing to consider that the MPAA has simply evolved or clarified terminology and that content wise these could be indistinguishable.

Mostly I think the lack of a marker for gore is telling rather than any difference between intense and grotesque.

I'm really not sure Alien would get that much marked down for gore. It really only has that one scene... I wonder if that would be enough to get it.

edit: and for me, the sound and reactions are worse than the gore itself. This movie seems to have both of those two locked down.

This is against MPAA rules. A film cannot be released with two separate ratings. The rating it is given is the rating it must be released with.

The studio can resubmit the film for re-evaluation with cuts (or appeal) but they cannot do so with the intention of releasing the 'lower rating' film alongside the previously rated film.

Go and look at the debacle the Weinsteins got themselves into with The King's Speech.
Did not know this, but thank you for teaching me about this. Any idea as to why the MPAA has this rule?

Between this and the Avengers opening this is indeed a week for film related megatons.

You're very welcome. :)

I'm not sure as to the specific reason but I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a case of a 'single rated' version of a film being easier to enforce by the theater owners. Stop kids being tickets for the PG13 version and the sneaking into the R rated one.

I grew up in the 80’s R rated sci-fi movies are one of the rarest things in Hollywood these days to get green-lit. Thank you to everyone involved who made that possible. That said it’s going to bomb outside of my film friends no one knows or cares about it.

Except for the chestburster all the gore in alien is limited to flash cuts, so I agree in principal. Not sure if they even said "why" they rated things the way they did in 79'. Also there was no PG-13 then

Because there's effectively no way to advertise one cut of a movie without advertising another (even if the advertising only mentions one version specifically).

Alien also had a bit of language though... so I could see it getting R anyway considering the overall mood, some violence, and the language together.

but gore alone, it is almost pg13 save for the chestburster. And that isn't really that bad.

I'm gobsmacked by this. I would have put cash money on FOX releasing this as a PG-13.

But any way you slice it Rothman is a still a total, total cock. And as far as Fox 'returning to their glory days'?

Even a stopped clock keeps the correct time twice a day.

You are very lucky, I wished I haven't seen the other trailers.

Now while I'm very sensitive to spoilers the truth is the recent trailers simply extend what had already been shown in the debut one, with a couple of extra "flashes", I seriously doubt I ruined the movie for me as many others feel, however the first trailer is extremely well made, it gives you the idea of the movie without treating you like an idiot, the new ones just beat you down with the plot (or presumed plot, I doubt the trailer actually spelled it out) in your head like if you were retarded.

Yeah, I see a ton of R movies in theaters but none that have a big budget. Most are indie movies. Watchmen is the last one I can think of off the top of my head.
