It seems that the developer has confirmed that they are making a game for themselves, rather than the fans of the game. Surely this is a bad idea? After all, Heavenly Sword and Enslaved were not the most successful games, are they relying on the fact that the franchise has enough fans to create sales, whatever they do to it?

I think he is right about the best works being games the development team wants to play. Problem is he's got an albatross around the neck in the form of a well established series, not some IP resurrected years later like Metroid Prime or Kid Icarus: Uprising.

This is a mentality that should be encouraged with new IP, but it's very risky for a new game in an active franchise like DMC, which the publisher is expecting to sell at least to the established fanbase.

This is exactly what they want. They are trolling the fan base for a response so they can say that people are still interested in it. After some fairly decent previews they are back to being arrogant again.

And for the record this is something I would expect from kamiya as well only he has the pedigree to say stuff like that.

Dev made game that didn't really sell that well and wasn't really critically acclaimed. By some weird human sacrifice ritual, they get their hands on Devil May Cry. It's just inevitable that they come to some weird conclusion.

NT wants the game to be good, and is using one of the better metrics to achieve that: a game the developers would want to play. Any good designer would do the same.

Clothing designers and chefs do the exact same thing: they design clothing that they would want to wear, or cook food that they would want to eat.

But it's NT, and people have already decided, having never picked up a controller to even try the game, that it's going to be shit.

It was clear from the start that the dogpile was never going to be stopped. Continue making asses of yourselves. DmC is going to be a decent game, whether you want it to or not.

Man, I hope DmC never releases because the drama surrounding this project is just too good. Plus, the infamous Event Status would be unable to continue his YouTube series if the game actually does launch. His videos about DmC, Capcom, Ninja Theory, Tameem, etc. are so on point.
