Dahbomb, have you given up on the game already or you're gonna analyze the stuff they release this E3?

I'm really looking forward to your in-depth analysis

Maybe if you were a little more cultured, you'd be able to see how much Capcom clearly loves the Divine Comedy.

Is the game still going to be called Devil May Cry?

If so then yes. Although most of the analysis of the core game play has been done already so there isn't much left for me to say unless a lot of new weapons are involved or some genuinely new mechanics are shown.

The only real analysis of the game will come from actual hands on from DMC players.

DMC4 as well.

Retcon:
Divine Comedy - Divinity Statue

DMC1
Mundas - His three eyes are likely a reference to Satan, who is portrayed with three faces in Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy. Satan is also considered the "Prince of This World" and the "Prince of Darkness", both of which are titles that Mundus shares with him. Mundus's pseudo-angelic appearance also coincides with Satan's role as a fallen angel within the Christian Faith.
Trish - Trish's name is a reference to Lady Beatrice of the Divine Comedy, who was based on Dante Alighieri's muse and unrequited love, Beatrice Portinari.

DMD2
Lucia - Lucia shares her name with Saint Lucy, a martyred saint, called Lucia in The Divine Comedy. Where she appeared to help poet Dante Alighieri with whom, in his turn, shares his name with the main protagonist of the series, Dante.

DMC3
Geryon - appears in the Divine Comedy as a bear-armed dragon with a man's face and a scorpion's tail and is the Monster of Fraud
Cerberus - appears in the Divine Comedy as the guardian of the third circle of Hell, in which gluttons are punished by constant black rain and icy slush

DMC4
DMC4 BP achievements - inferno's circles of hell
DMC4 Mission 2 La Porte de l'Enfer - La Porte de l'Enfer is a monumental sculptural group work by French artist Auguste Rodin that depicts a scene from "The Inferno", the first section of The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri.
DMC4 Mission 11 The Ninth Circle - ninth circle

Culture, fuck yeah.

Dante's Inferno is supposed to be the actual Divine Comedy game.

Heh, this suddenly made me chuckle.

Despite being about parties and pizza classic Dante games still have Divine Comedy references while DmC, touting about "art" and "culture", will essentially be unsubstantial. How culturally ironic :P

What we know is that now they are working on a high budget progect, and that now they are supported by one of the most important software companies as Capcom; therefore, now they are in the conditions for providing a high quality product, and they have no excuses for not providing a AAA game. I am only judging NT's work from what I see in the latest videos of DmC, and I love what I see.

I think that the criticism that NT got from the fans served the purpose of improving DmC, because if you compare the the first DmC video with the latest DmC videos, then you can clearly see that they modified their art direction, going toward the right direction, at least this is my opinion.
It has been literally years since I played HS but I thought it was originally intended for the PS2 and came out late 2007. Wasn't the launch of the PS3 in the holiday season of 2006? I could be totally wrong on that.

The first DmC video was just a teaser and I think of those like I do a placeholder. Nothing more than concept art that isn't fully defined. I do think fan backlash has made some changes to this game but not much. They pretty much said they are not changing much but make some "tweaks" as they go. Some of the character design changes probably came when they actually hired to actor to do the mocap and facial animations; they made it look more like him. I don't know if that is an improvement, just different than what we first saw. Almost all games undergo some amount of stylistic changes during development.

You didn't just omit the subject of the sentence, you also didn't use the comma to separate the main clause from the subordinate clause. Therefore, the text fluidity is low and your sentence is hardly comprehensible. When I fixed your sentence, it was just an educated guess that I did. However, I was not sure if my guess was correct, not until you told me that it was correct. Finally, I do find this pretty ironic, since this is not my first language, and you are a native English speaker; thus, you are supposed to have better English than me. This is especially ironic for a context in which we are talking about culture.

Maybe you didn't get the memo, but proper English is required in a DmC thread.

I think HS was originally an Xbox game and you're right, it came out 10 months after the PS3 was released. Well out of "launch game" territory but I've seen that excuse thrown around a lot.

Do yourself a favour, look up what irony means. If I were arguing that your grammar was poor while making my own grammatical mistakes, then it would be irony. When I'm making an entirely different point and you harp on about minor grammar mistakes, that's not irony. What is irony is using a sentence construction such as " it was just an educated guess that I did" when trying to hold some grammatical moral high ground.

You are correct, strictly speaking I should have included a comma. However the omission of the comma doesnt change the actual meaning of the sentence. So again, claiming that a slight grammatical error renders the sentence illegible is both laughable and a cheap attempt to avoid engaging with the point I was making. It's also rather arrogant of you to assume that I'm a native english speaker, but based on your posts that arrogance seems par for the course.

I am sorry but this is just too much, you really need to culture your culture. I also fail to see why it's arrogant to assume that you are a native English speaker. If I were you (note the subjunctive use), I would take it as a compliment, because it would mean that my English is good enough to induce someone to believe that I am a native English speaker. Furthermore, if you are a native speaker it means that you can provide proper English with much less effort than me; thus, why don't you just do it, in order to allow non-native speakers to understand easily your posts ?

Cool beans..too bad theyre maknig a sequel of an already established franchise. They made games they 'wanted to make' and failed spectacularly. Kinda raises a red flag to people who care bout this stuff.

Capcom wants to expand the franchise's popularity, so they go with somebody who doesn't care how the game sells and whose company doesn't have a great track record for making games that a lot of people want to play. And this is after DMC4 became the best selling game in the series. Yup, that just about sums up the logic I've come to expect from Capcom.

I don't know if it was Inafune's decision or from higher up but it's pretty clear by the PR job and the gerenal reception from fanbase that this was a terrible move to make.

After RE and SF DMC is their top currently running franchise in the west yet Capcom expects RE6 to sell higher than RE5 but DmC to not reach DMC4 sales? Something tells me Capcom is preparing thmeselves for the worst because it looks very likely that this will be a terrible DMC game.

Shame nothing can be done about it now. NT got their money and Capcom wil just have to stick it out but I don't think they will call NT again.

No one thinks you're funny with your self-mocking failed take on comedy, you're just being obnoxious. The only laughs you'll get out of this are people laughing at you (aka, mocking you), not with you. You know who you are.
This is a gaming board, why don't you just relax and join the cultural party ?

Jonathan pretty much admitted defeat hence he's conceding to the culture meme to lessen the pain.

I think deep down inside we all feel sorry for him... I know I am...
Just like sometimes I feel sorry fot NT... They had been given a chance to redeem themselves with DmC... But they never learned...

Considering Capcom's success with ORC, DmC well probably sell truckloads for reasons behind its quality.

You feel sorry because you given up on the game already. You need to find your way back to the right path. Stop being pessimistic, and start to beleave in NT; they will deliver an amazing game, you just need to beleave.

As long as I clarified that the original quote was not meant to be offensive, I don't have any problem to joke about the meme. However, I still stand by my position. The art direction, the story and the music of a game are as much important as the gameplay, in my opinion. A great game needs the right combination of all these elements. You didn't realize that I don't fight for myself, I fight for the culture. If culture wins, I win. Indeed.

What the heck at this talk about sheep and believing? When did this turn into a religion thread?

I liked this thread when it was just culture.
