Got Since I Left you back around the time it released in the US in 2001 and still listen to it frequently today. Can't say that for many albums. And it seems like every few weeks a different song becomes my new favorite. Guess it depends on my mood, the season, and the weather. Right now it's prob Stay Another Season. Hooray for more Avalanches!

Yeah they released that a few weeks ago iirc. On their twitter they said they're $140,000 in debt from recording this next LP.
How many people have we heard about being on it? Zola Jesus? Ariel Pink? Danny Brown? It'll certainly be an opus. If this and the next Deltron LP release in the same year I'll shit myself. |

Fun fact: the cover art seen in the OP comes from the 1964 LP "The Dream World of Dion McGregor (He Talks In His Sleep)", which is a series of recordings of one man's actual sleep-talking. McGregor was a songwriter in his waking life (he wrote a song for Barbara Streisand, among others) but he never had much success. His dreams, though, are incredible - manic, hilarious, surprisingly coherent, very quotable, and often lewd.
His roommate had noticed that McGregor often talked in his sleep in the early morning hours, and his talking often grew so intense that McGregor would shout himself awake and fall out of bed. Soon his roommate began recording the sleep-talking, and the rest is history. My tiny record label was able to procure a previously unreleased recording for our recent compilation: http://comp.awkwardcore.com/track/naughty-pussy Here are some other favorites: Dear Uncle - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sW5rLEt1NE Food Roulette - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoZAN4n5DBI Don't Break The Mailman - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65fxTO65CEE A City So Nice - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp2FyYxjCso |

Disappointing mix all-in-all. Sounds like what they'd produce for a Back To Mine or Another Late Night compilation, not what I expected. I know it was only one guy out of the five (?) but use some effects or software to make up for it, get inventive. The whole point of The Avalanches are the crazy mash-ups and out-there sample abuse. This mix has a decent tune selection, book-ended by those dream speeches mentioned in this thread, but it's ultimately monotone and boring.

so they have a new demo featuring David Berman of the Silver Jews...
http://pitchfork.com/news/47558-list...-of-the-heart/ didn't realize most of the members left... so this whatever they release will most likely be nowhere near as good as Since I Left You? |
