Trailer For Ben Affleck's ARGO #1

Trailer

Director Ben Affleck (The Town, Gone Baby Gone)
Cast: Ben Affleck, Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Zeljko Ivanek, Richard Kind, Scoot McNairy, Chris Messina, Michael Parks, Kerry Bishe, Kyle Chandler, Rory Cochrane, Christopher Denham, Tate Donovan, Clea DuVall, Victor Garber and Taylor Schilling.

Synopsis:
Quote:
Based on true events, “Argo” chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis–the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades. On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, a CIA “exfiltration” specialist named Tony Mendez (Affleck) comes up with a risky plan to get them safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.

Argo hits theaters October 12th.

Of course the trailer for one of my very most hyped movies would hit when I'm at work.

Day one even without seeing the trailer! You're my boy, Ben!

Looks pretty good and I've been a fan of Affleck's previous directing efforts so I'm definitely in.

Ben has proven to be pretty good director and top of all he makes kind of movies that interest me. This one looks good too, I still think Affleck should just stay behind the camera.

As an actor or director? I had my problems with The Town (still good though), but Gone Baby Gone is freaking great.

A better cast than The Town and a likely better story too? Ben, count me in.

I love Gone Baby Gone and The Town. This looks great too; sort of a Munich vibe. Director Affleck is best Affleck.

Affleck is a better director than he ever was as an actor. I've enjoyed all his films, and hated all his films. Hope this continues that trend...looks good!

I hope this is great and people can finally stop acting snobbish and mocking when they see a new Ben Affleck movie. It's like no matter how awesome and critically acclaimed he is, the less informed people still want him to suffer for J.Lo and his crappy early 2000s films.

Random IMDb test screening impression:

Quote:
I caught an advanced screening of this film in Pasadena last week that Ben Affleck personally attended. I thought it was good. It wasn't as emotionally engaging as Gone Baby Go e or as action packed as The Town. Everything was executed top notch, it's just that it all wasn't that interesting. The cast was exceptional with the comedic duo of Alan Arkin and John Goodman being my personal favorites. Affleck, as director, nailed the period (1981-82). The clothes, sets, and dialogue reflected the early 80s perfect. It relied on tension as it's main trick and it pulled it off decently well. Overall I would place it above The Debt (despite a great villain performance) and below Munich. Munich had more clever action and grittier moments.

Affleck's acting was fine. He is limited by the script. It reminded me of his performance in The Town. Quiet kind of guy, less so than in the Town but reminiscent. He has a couple moments where he stands up for what he believes is right and this is where the character and Affleck shine brightest. Otherwise, it's a pretty lackluster character. Not much action or emotion out of him. I liked his full beard, it was pretty awesome. When I saw him at The Yard House next to the Theater, he still had the full beard, so I assume they are still doing shooting on the film. Perhaps he just really enjoys the beard.

I love how he borrowed most of his cast from his pals Kevin Smith's Red State. He said Smith showed him Red State right before casting Argo and he loved it so much he wanted to use as much of the cast from it as he could.

Yeah Ex, I also picked up a bit on the Munich vibe, even if there seems to be a lightness running throughout this one. Definitely looking great.

Speaking of Munich. Not enough directors these days make use of that great seventies zoom lens style. I fucking love the zoom lens. Soderbergh uses it very well too in his Oceans movies.
