The rest is pretty subjective. For me, Portal 1 was a collection of rooms that you complete while a deadpan narrator makes amusing quips. There was no real character interaction at all, or anything in the way of a plot. Portal 2 actually tries to construct a narrative arc, introduces expository segments, and has several big payoffs throughout the story. For me that was much more satisfying than the barebones premise of Portal 1. Obviously not others will have the same preferences. I'm just pointing out that Portal 2 is a much more fleshed out experience than Portal 1, both in terms of narrative and gameplay. Valve achieved what they wanted to achieve IMO. |

They only had Portal 1 because it was included in the Orange Box. Valve even said they had reservations about selling Portal on its own, so they made it part of the best bundle of all time and put out a standalone version for $20 which they didn't expect to sell much at all.
