The Avengers score - Best theme in a quite a while
#1
![]() Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Predator, The Abyss, The Mummy Returns, Forest Gump etc) really has composed one of the most memorable themes for a film in quite a while. The theme runs throughout the score, most notably in the following tracks: Arrival Assemble The Avengers The rest of the score isn't too shabby either.

Awesome, the backlash against The Avengers is starting.
Thor and Captain America (also from Silvestri) had pretty good music though. |

A bland, forgettable score, just like every other Marvel Studios movie so far. I loved Avengers, but Marvel Studios really needs to STEP THE FUCK UP on the music front and hire some real composers.

I found most of it uninspired save for the main theme, which was really all that mattered to me. None of the films really have that rememberable motif ala 'Raiders March' IMO. I think the Avengers theme is the best one so far.
Honestly, I'll never understand Marvel's lack of effort to create an iconic score for any their movies.

Alan Silvestri hasn't made a decent score since Van Helsing IMO

I don't think so. Although I do think his trend of trying to add techno and contemporary sounds into his score is a turn off, Alan Silvestri is still has fantastic as ever, especially with his scores for The Polar Express and Beowulf.
Even The A-Team had this. |

Aside from Shore's LOTR scores, the ideas of running themes and leitmotifs seem to be lost on modern composers/scores, which is a fucking travesty.
"Art form X used to be so much better!" is typically a rose-tinted glasses view on things, but in the case of film scoring, it's actually true. |

And I very much doubt Silmarillion will ever happen. It was what Tolkien wanted most though, out of all of it. Such a shame he never lived to see it get published. I think they're taking what happened in that film as canon, considering where Banner was when the film started, and the continuing theme of him showing control over The Hulk. |

It's true that Marvel movies in general have lacked a concentrated effort in making a musical universe to their movies.
It became very obvious in The Avengers, when despite Silvestri's great theme, it completely lacked themes for specific characters, mostly because they didn't exist. Even Captain America's march only got a few notes during the ship fight. As great as The Avenger's theme was, it would even be even better if we could hear the music from each of the franchises play against each other just like the characters in the movie. |

I always thought the Spidey theme was too generic Elfman. IIRC a lot of people at the time felt that way too. Like he didn't try and just mishmashed his stuff from before into one theme
Any super hero thing he does inevitable makes me think of his Batman score, same with Hulk. |
