The music that played during that tracking shot (the only good part of the movie) was awesome.
Main theme was very generic. |

If the Hobbit films are a success and their is a frothing demand for more of Tolkien's legendarium then it could happen in some form after Christopher Tolkien's eventual death. He's most opposed to selling the rights to the Sil and other material, the rest of the Tolkien's are far less stubborn on the matter. But I digress, this is for another thread. |

I prefer the way underrated Magneto theme from Xmen:First Class. Played during the credits. I thought it was awesome but haven't heard anyone else talk about it

The scores have been the weakest thing about the Marvel movies thus far. But after seeing the Avengers twice, there are certain swells in the theme that pumps me up during certain moments. Overall though, it's nothing that really stood out to me as something to praise, but nothing to complain about either.

I thought the movie was amazing, but the score was pretty forgettable. Serviceable, I mean it hit the right notes at the right moments to help me feel what it wanted me to feel. But if you asked me to hum a few notes of any parts of it, I probably couldn't.
Yeah. I feel like that was a missed opportunity. If Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Cap had more memorable and recognizable themes, and they carefully weaved them into the Avengers score to highlight important character moments? That would've been pretty awesome. |

My favourite theme between the superhero movies is still Driving with the Top Down.
Avengers was kind of disappointing as far as the music was concerned. |

ha. seriously. the music and hulk screaming really made that scene so much better than i expected from the trailer and commercials.
James Horner also really nailed the music for The Rocketeer: http://youtu.be/vvBLFqqqS50?t=1m58s

Yeah I like Silvestri, he did the score for Predator 2.
And Cast Away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb2-0aAmyAI So beautiful. Man knows his stuff. |

The actual themem was meh, but the action pieces in the soundtrack were pretty spectacualr, I thought. They weren't trying to be anything more than heroic and bombastic, but Silvestri pulled that stuff off with aplomb. The "I got a ride" piece" in the soundtrack had some particularly epic action music.

However, I rewatched Tintin last night and liked it a lot more than I did the first time (talking about both the score and the actual film). |

Predictable and forgettable.
Now, First Class had a terrific score with a unique main theme. First Class Sub Lift |

Yes Cast Away has a beautiful score. Silvestri really used to be the shit. Back to the Future, Abyss and Predator. He is definitely good at scoring action, no doubt. He's not a big "theme" guy like Williams is.

What about Memoirs of a Geisha and War of the world scores? Made in the same year as Munich.

If we're going to talk about Williams, can we talk about one of my favourite tracks that is ALWAYS in my head? Indy's First Adventure from Last Crusade.
Well aware of both. Geisha's is great. Munich trumps them, even if Geisha won the gold. |

They don't make them like they used to.
