Hmm, now that I think about it, I remember the Iron Man theme too. The reason why I couldn't recall it that well at first was because I kept thinking of the Black Sabbath song instead.

Love how RDJ was wearing a BS tshirt in the movie.

I first noticed the theme that was created for the Iron Man movie when it played on the DVD menu. Not a good time to first notice it if you have already seen the movie in theaters and on TV.

It was serviceable, solid, decent, etc. Not memorable but it did its job

With one exception, though.

The theme kicking in for that big spinning team shot just before the climax, now THAT was memorable and awesome.

John Carter's main theme actually sounds like it borrows a bit from Williams' main Empire of the Sun motif.

If you were looking and specifically hearing for it, it was alright. Otherwise not that great, maybe on it's own but it didn't complement the visuals at all (imo)

yeah I thought Spider-man got saddled with a really bland theme that didn't fit him at all. I thought his Hulk score was leagues ahead of his Spider-man contributions.

Favorite Marvel score is still Punisher 2004.

An orchestrated version of this should have played every time Cap came on the screen.

I wish they looked to the Versus series for inspiration. Some of those songs are really memorable.

If we're going down this route:

The Lighting of the Beacons
Glamdring
Khazad-dum
The Battle of the Pelennor Fields

The Mouth of Sauron

You just imagine Aragorn saying this during the first part, 3 mins onwards:

"Sons of Gondor! Of Rohan! My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of Men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Men comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!"

Followed by Sam saying this in the second half of the track, 7:50 onwards:

"Come on, Mr. Frodo, I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you!"

The Avengers score is the very definition of functional. It was a missed opportunity, really. An iconic score could have elevated the already great film even higher.

If the scores of the previous films were more iconic themselves, then there could have been some awesome musical cues for each hero here. As it is, the only stand out musical moment was when Back in Black started playing.

I love Giacchino's Trek score, but his John Carter score is even better. It's the best work he's done since Ratatouille.

The problem with the marvel super hero movies is that the really great tunes are not remembered the first time you see it because they are not really well placed, leaving them for the credits or just a special section where it doesnt let the theme shine (except on rare ocassions).
Apart from The Avengers main theme that shine in the credits were people are waiting more for the secret ending that watching those good credits, theres also two favourites of mine.
-Make Way for Tomorrow Today
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3cJ1onJkig
An amazing tribute to Walt Disney, Epcot, 64's World Fair and Theres A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow theme from Carrousel of Progress, done by none other that Richard Sherman, that made similar songs for Disney with his brother Robert (RIP) during that period. This and Howard Stark being essentially Walt Disney were my favourite parts. This theme was IIRC in the credits and there was also and instrumental version.

-Star Spangled Man
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxRKw...eature=related
Same that with Make Way for Tomorrow Today, a piece of music that goes with the themes that appear in the movie, although this has better use becuase as it had a full fleged scene that if you watch the movie you will remember.

-Captain America Main Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-v3w...eature=related
Another awesome main theme that was used in the credits scene. Has like a golden era super hero flavour.

Giacchino is nearly always fucking amazing, and the best thing is that you really hear his music in the key scenes the first time you watch them.
Up had an amazing score and that was after Ratatouille, MI4 had also amazing tracks.
One of my favourites is without a doubt Speed Racer, it has an amazing power (Casa Cristo is just INCREDIBLE, you feel just like if you were in a coaster, its not surprise he makes now some of the Space Mountains around the world music tracks) and its not only a tribute to the original american theme of the series but also the Japanese one. I find Giacchinno the best when a movie needs tribute themes (Star Trek, MI, Cloverfield...) but its not like he pastes all over the place the original music, but he works and plays with it to make some fantastic scores.
Its a pity i havent seen yet Jonh Carter, but will watch becuase most of the people i talk about it now are telling me that the movie was not so bad as critics said and that the music was excellent.

so fucking true. I love how organic and dark it is, like its the beats and machinations of the plotting coming to light. I have nothing against bombastic, pomp and circumstanc-y kinda scores. But tonally, this much better suits the film.

I enjoyed the score, but the problems arise from the fact that it's continuously playing in the background, so some of the repeated use of a few instruments (horns in particular) to symbolize the bombastic vision of the movie becomes utterly forgettable.

Almost every scene has a loud 'heroic' score to trumpet its significance. I think it would have been far more effective if the stronger parts of the score were used more sparingly.
