I think a lot of those sorts of posts have been productive. I'm only responding to the posts that deliberately misinterpret my point and attack my character. I think some of the points made about past musical movements are interesting to note, I just haven't had the time to respond to them.

I brought it up as an ancillary part of one post in order to demonstrate that dubstep is an old genre. I messed up on the date a little bit. So what? Please tell me how it's consequential.

wait now i really need to know who or what comprises the world's largest music repository.
the internet? is he saying that he's a part of the internet? how exactly does somebody repose music when music is widely and easily available to almost everyone on the planet? does this phantom organization have like a couple multi-TB hard drive arrays in a basement with the world's largest MP3 collection? i'm so confused and intrigued by OP's assertion of belonging to a music consortium that sits around all day classifying music. did your dad "totally work at nintendo" too? |

This annoys me to no end. When you guys stop being condescending because I was off by 5 years, then I'll post again in this thread. Until then, adieu.

"These 'musical instruments' are killing good chanting!"
Clearly, by storming out of the room with a pout on your face, you won this argument. Don't worry, it's us, not you. |

Every decade, there's some music trend that is considered "ruining the music industry". In my opinion, right now, it's the need to have every pop song with a rap, and every rap with a pop hook (or "making music for the clubs"), but that isn't stopping good music from being made, just good music from being popular. You can always find good music, who cares what other people like.
And you might find that in 10 years, that music you hated, you actually don't mind any more as you slowly lose your music elitism or it's re-directed to the next music trend. Usually it's pop music that's a good example of this. Do you still think things like Christina Aguilera and N*SYNC will ruin the music industry and it's the worst music of all time? But I bet you would have in the late 90's. EDIT - Growing up is also a key to losing music elitism. Late teens to late 20's is when it's usually in full force. You'll find as you get older, you stop caring what's popular.

Also, I'd chill with throwing the "fuck you" around, it's a fastlane to Bansville. |

You're old-man ears are clearly failing you, pops. If I could meet my 18-year-old self, I don't know which one of us would kick the other's ass for being a dumbass the fastest...

I wouldn't worry about the dubstep = 20 years thing either. But I think you did uncover that it's really hard to have meaningful conversations about things that are about taste... and everyone's hammering on that point :P |

if you hadn't already asserted your age i'd guess you were at least 15. you aren't part of anything except a tiresome stereotype of someone who thinks they can take what little knowledge they think they have about a particular subject and lord it over others that are arrogantly assumed to be less informed.
this thread is fucking terrible and your childish antics only made it worse. btw it's great i'm the tool but OP is the one claiming to be part of some secret musical illuminati that backs his every idiotic assertion. |

As much as I don't like various type of music, I think it's important to appreciate that what you do like actually exists. Since music is always changing but usually doesn't disappear, the further you go into the future the more options you have. I like to imagine myself 100 years down the road, sifting through what the last century has left behind. The last 100 years have given us an incredible variety and the next may be even greater.

Where were you in 92 is a throw back to Jungle music by the way. This why you cant have a "disscusion" as that would involve people on all sides being informed, this is just various people confused about what is and isnt something complaining about stuff they cant agree on. I could waste 20mins linking stuff, pointing out that 95% of the posters THINK is dubstep isnt and showing them what IS but Ive done it maybe four or five times in recent memory and it is usually a complete waste of time. |

Once again the dubstep-is-musically-devoid-lazy-crap argument rears its head and once again I have to recommend this:

There are so many different variations and styles. There's the more subdued roots stuff, there's the very aggressive stuff (Skrillex & Co.), the stuff that draws exclusively from certain genres or sampling styles (my favourite is actual dub reggae dubstep), and so forth. |
