Dubstep elitism is so 2010.
There's good dubstep and bad dubstep. The UK Bass scene in general is interesting, competitive, constantly evolving and often exciting. Yes, I too tire of the incessant wobbling. But dubstep's not killing music. It's not even killing electronic dance music. Hell, it's not even killing UK Bass. Some of its elements have just been taken to far and lost their subtlety and novelty. EDIT: For some of you guys, dubstep long predates video games trailers, and the place where dubstep ends and other UK Bass scene subgenres like garage, grime, 2-step, etc. begin is not clear. It is a much wider variety of music than game trailers and shitty youtube remixes, and artists like James Blake and SBTRKT are part of that scene. In fact, James Blake considers himself dubstep:

I love dubstep as much as the next guy. I'm a huge fan of Burial and the hyper dub label.
But I don't think any EDM song in existence can compare to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyoDbX1EkPQ |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Udn51qJwDvY Okay, almost not even a New Order song, since it's basically Pump Panel's song Ego Acid with some bits from Confusion. |

If anything, I think it's hit radio that is killing music. The whole concept of hit radio blows, when you hear the same god damn song for the 20th time in an hour. At least dubstep is something new, but the gimmick of it will fade in time just like everything else.

Ill offer up this but to behonest I shouldnt. Listening to it on my laptop or even with speakers does not do it justice. Heard it live and good god it is something else when the bass can physically shake you to your core. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltDsjKFmdUA also this has to be my favorite dubstep song ever http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ky5Mt...eature=related but like ive said its not really stuff that you can fully appreciate without a system to back it up. |

I like how people think that autotune is something new. It's been used in the music industry since the early 70's if not earlier. Do you feel like we do/talk box, or all that stuff by frampton is no different then autotune, or what autotune does.
It wasn't until more recently that we've used autotune outside of the recording studio and as an actual tool in the creation of music. And yes it's music, just like electronica is music. It doesn't matter if the instrument is analog or digital, or how the sounds get produced, music comes in the composition and exploration of audio. IMO, music is not the theft of a sample and reading poetry or words overtop of it.

Here's the point: dubstep isn't "killing music". It's just a trend that is currently popular that will pass like all trends. Chances are people complained that your favourite genre (whatever it happens to be) was "killing music" at some stage as well! |

As someone who likes "electronic" music all the way from Kraftwerk right on up....Dub is a very hard style to get into, there are exceptions but in general I just cant get into it. Maybe It's cause I'm getting old or I'm not high as fuck...but idk most of it is just awful.
Bassnectar is really good....if someone wants another name to look into |

That's hilarious. There is so much good music out right now. And so many incredible things have been released in the past 5 years alone. Whatever you want, indie, acoustic, ambient, classical, instrumental, throw-backs, soundtracks, or whatever it is that you like... There is so much awesome shit that I don't even have time to listen to it all. Music is far from dead. You just need to look harder. :) Turning on the radio doesn't count.

i usually find dubstep to be incredibly irritating. there are a few tunes i like that might fall under the label, but it has a strangely high amount of utter garbage.
thats just my experience, obviously. it's more than a little ridiculous to argue it's "killing" music though. |

Hence Genres are kinda dumb and you should just listen to whatever you like, genres be damned. Because it would be a shame to dismiss something just because the only thing you know about it is the genre someone told you it belongs in. |

Also don't know if it has been mentioned but Rustie's Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1 is a great listen. Tons of new unreleased tracks from not just Rustie.
http://soundcloud.com/rustie/essential-mix-bbc-radio-1 There is a song in there called Billboard by S-Type, and I need the full version ASAP, here it is ripped from the mix. http://youtu.be/LayGds3F58U |
