Yeah I pretty much avoid sugary drinks if I can and I try to eat lots of fruits and vegetables. I do have a high carb diet and I eat a ton of rice, being part Cajun and Chinese. Its just what my family tends to cook and what we eat in this region. I do eat a lot of fish and chicken though and not really a lot of red meat so that could be one reason why. I never eat hamburgers for example unless they are home grilled.

I hear that, it's annoying. I work in an office, so most people are between 20-50 pounds overweight. They tend to eat junk all day long and don't exercise. So I make it an effort to eat well and exercise every day. I've heard several times in the past week that I need to eat something.. I eat quite a bit, I just don't slam a couple Mt Dews a day and eat unhealthy food constantly.
It's weird that it's become the norm to be overweight, and if you watch your appearance people think you're starving yourself, which couldn't be further from the truth in my case. |

Lemme ask you guys something. Do you finish everything on your plate when you go out to eat or buy too much food, or do you just portion part of it and save it for later? thats what I do a lot. I hardly ever finish a portion in one sitting because frankly forcing it would make me sick.

Both fat people and skinny people find it difficult to alter their weight. Does this not show that food intake and energy output are, for the most part, homeostatically regulated? I find 2,400 calories to be almost nothing if i'm not eating very plain foods, but some people feel nauseous if they try and eat that many calories per day of anything.

I'm 35 and have been the same size since high school (almost 6 foot, 120-125). People comment on my size a lot. It bothers me sometimes, especially when it's 'ew, you're so skinny!'. But I've come to accept it. It has it's upsides though. Most people think I'm ten years younger than I am, and there's quite a few attractive ladies that like us skinny guys :)

If you're a dude, being called too skinny is usually not flattering and can be kind of emasculating. I think sometimes that's intended, sometimes it's not. There was a period where I was definitely too skinny from too much cardio and not enough eating when I was trying to get a six-pack and didn't know what the hell I was doing. Once I got one too many "you're so skinny!" comments I realized that wasn't what I was going for and needed to change it up. I'm 5'8 and I think the lowest I got down to was 139. I never looked 'sickly' underweight, just too damn scrawny.

Ok, after looking at some of the different BMI charts online, I can safely say that BMI stuff is bullcrap. Apparently 145-180 is normal for a 6' male... Either I'm too used to looking at fat people, or that chart is wrong
http://www.brianmac.co.uk/idealw.htm That's what I'm saying. I'm pretty close to overweight if you think of it that way, but I'm skinny as fuck... Doesn't make any sense

Chris Rock has answers!
It pretty much boils down to being mean. This relates to race, gender, etc. as well. The person that's perceived in the worse position can say whatever they want against someone that's preceived to be in a better position.

http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ Underweight is below 18.5 kg/m^2, overweight is above 24.9, obese is 30. BMI is only one measure, though. |

haha tell that to my body, iv been 10 stone which only fluctuates 1/4 stone either side of 10 for the last 15 years. i just don't put on weight but i eat like a giant. I do no exercise outside of a 20-25 min walk to and from work every day, the rest of my living life is spent on my ass in a computer chair/budda bag playing games or laying down watching TV. Im just very lucky, i am under no illusions at some point my metabolism will give out and i will get fat if i don't adjust my diet accordingly but that time is not now. People who are skinny to an unhealthy level should be called out on it, not in a bad way but supportive. Fat people generally know they are fat and probably do hate themselves for it but they tend to be aware of their problem. Anorexic and bulimic tenancies are a mental issue and in the short term do much more damage to their body than overweight people, and the people suffering with the disorders are often oblivious to the harm they are doing to themselves, obviously shouting "Oi skeletor eat a sammich" wont help but there are ways to approach those who clearly do have an eating disorder. |

Also I definitely dont have an eating disorder. Certainly not anorexia, althougH I look like some of them do. One of the most annoying things is I have such tiny wrists that I have to remove all the links from a new watch just to get it to fit, and it still dangles off my wrist a little bit. Same thing with belts and pants. I have to buy tiny waisted jeans and I have to often make new holes in a belt so I can buckle it properly.

What a crock of shit. I have tremendous trouble putting on weight. The only thing that got close to giving me weight the first time was when I was working out under the GOMAD diet, but that was unhealthy and expensive.

Haha, no. Unless by putting weight you mean getting fat and chubby, and even that's not easy for people with quick metabolism. Putting 'proper' weight (muscles) is probably even more difficult than losing weight.

Let me tell ya op, it doesn't get any better as you gain a "normal" weight. Sure the compliments sound nice at first (Oh you look so good now!), they still revert back to your skinny days (That's good... you were WAYYY to skinny then, like <blah blah blah> skinny).
Packing on the pounds wasn't easy but once you start, it got easier.. I did it the wrong way though (kept same eating habits but found a job where I sat down 8hours and was pretty stressful). |

i've always had naturally decent eating habits (preferred water to soda, fruits to ice cream, chicken/sea food to red meat) but going from 3 meals a day to 5 meals a day was tough (and expensive.) going from 0 days a week at the gym to 3 was also tough. and it's not like i hit my target weight/look and stop - it's a constant thing, and if i slack off for 2 weeks i'll notice myself getting smaller. at the end of the day, everyone should be eating healthier and exercising regularly. the amount of time/effort put in gives off such a high boost in quality of life, it'd be crazy not to. physically, emotionally, socially, sexually... why i wouldn't i want to improve all those aspects of life? |

I used to get this all the time. It really hurt because I could not put on weight. Was 6'4" and 175lbs in my late teens and early 20's. I didn't want to be that thin trust me. I hated when people said it was much easier to gain weight than lose weight. Really? Put yourself in my shoes.
Been at about 235lbs for over a dozen years only because my metabolism slowed. |

I certainly wouldn't equate my experience with the real frustration of people who can't gain or lose weight, but it does wear thin after the thousandth time. No I'm not anorexic. Yes I am eating (a lot). No I am not wharfing it up in the bathroom after I eat it. :P |

IIRC, BMI defines overweight at 25 supposedly because statistically that's when health issues associated with weight begin to show up. I know of several clinical studies that dispute this - in fact, it's not that great a measure. Being BMI overweight isn't that meaningful, but being within the BMI normal range is a good reason to think you're OK.Popular wisdom is that it's useless, but it's still in use for that reason.
That said: it does not account for age, body fat percentage, and body fat distribution, which are more tightly correlated with health outcomes.

Nah, it's not.
And the skinny line doesn't bother me all that much. If they say it to me then I just joke them right back, playfully of course. If they can't take a joke, well, then fuck em. They are insensitive little shits. |
