What was wrong with the energy secretary's answer? It's not like he had anywhere remotely close to enough time to explain how the oil got under Alaska, unless there's something I'm missing.

Even more amazing is that Barton puts his exchange with Dr. Chu up on his youtube.com site as if he stumped Dr. Chu.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgKepHebKRc Apparently Barton thinks plate tectonics is another one of those science hoaxes? Uh yeah, Joe, oil is formed in temperate zones and it got up to Alaska by drifting plates. Polar regions are not actually great places to find oil because the oil often escapes (or partially escapes like the tar sands) before it gets there or it gets cooked into natural gas. |

Joe Barton is truly a loathesome politician. He is such a stereotype of a boss hog politician with pandering on social issues and collecting campaign donations due to sweetheart legislation to companies. A corrupt demagogue.

A huge portion of American Christendom is fucked up due to an unholy union with certain aspects of conservatism.

Who the hell prepares themself for such a task? I'm sure he was caught off guard and was trying to dumb it down as quickly as possible yet still make sense. It was tough. |

First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it.

USA's Christianity is pretty funny. MTV's Sweet 16 actually had a daughter of a pastor throwing a party. They aren't even ashamed. Though I'm not sure how seriously I should take that show.

No he could've said "it comes from creatures and plants that died millions of years ago deep underground with heat and pressure and a lack of oxygen" but Barton would be like YOUNG EARTH CREATIONISM and then hilarity would ensue I'm sure.

If Barton wanted a more precise answer as to how oil and gas are formed then he should have asked that. Instead he asked how oil and gas arrived under alaska. He asked a question, got a direct (yet simplified) answer, and then decided to post his ignorant ass getting owned on youtube as if he was the victor. He was literally too stupid to realize that his question was answered. |

Most right-wing American Christendom is heretical if you follow what the Bible and more specifically the New Testament say. What about "The last will be the first, and the first will be the last"?

With that said, this thread title is entirely inaccurate. |

I remember sneaking around in Acre, I think, and these two guys below me were having a conversation. One of them said, "Oh well, you know what it says in the good book. The lord helps those who help themselves." And the other guy says, "Nope, that's not in the Bible at all, actually." I'm paraphrasing, of course. Weird that the son of a preacher would live by a quote that is not evidenced in the holy book of the religion he claims to follow. |
