Huh? Sounds suspect. Retro is working on Metroid Prime 3 for Revolution. Unless it has another game in the works, I just don't see how this information could be true.

In a thread about what he said in the other thread.
Quote:
I should clarify that while Metroid Prime 3 is allegedly in the works, I'm not certain on the platform. I'm assuming that it's going to be a Revolution launch title. But I suppose it could be a very, very late GameCube project, too. Don't know.

Sure be nice to find out at E3.

first to say it.

YUCK. too much too soon. I was very very sick of MP2E at the end of that game. I hope they balance out the gameplay more than just upgrading the visuals.

It should be a late 2006 release (Say november) or even 2007 for me to be interested.

If they can't recapture the magic of MP1 (especially the environments) they shouldn't even bother plus its just too soon after MP2.

I'd much rather see them work on a new ip.

yes. I would probably mind. MP 1 was just standout. 2E had a stack of problems, the in/out mechanics of the dark/light world + murky/samey visuals, late access powerups. I would rate it at about a 7/10, and that's begrudgingly considering how annoyed I got with the game.

They need to not make the game about Dark Samus too. Move on from Prime. I want bounty hunting across planets (so we're not locked to one place)

what's that got to do with anything? Its more a Retro/Prime thread.

As long as Retro gets rid of the whole light/dark mechanic of Echoes then I have no problem with another sequel and I'll pick it up.

I'm all for another Metroid game, but I'd like to see them try a real fps. At least finally give us the option for a standard fps controls in MP3. I'd also like to see a more traditional multiplayer in MP3. GC is seriously lacking in that department. I think it would be cool to play as either Federation Troopers or Space Pirates in multiplayer. Samus shouldn't even be selectable.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Retro does with Metroid Prime 3...I want them to make it more...Hmmm, classic Metroid. I wasn't a big fan of Echoes...The storyline was an improvement, but Aether itself wasn't as memorable as Tallon IV.

Awesome if true. Well, I watched a few minutes ago a Metroid Prime speed run (100%, 1h20min). I never see amazing skills like this and if you can, download it. It is a must see. 21 parts (545MB):

Graaaah... I loved MP, and I really liked MP2, but if true, I hope that the mechanics are something that are really fresh, new and innovative and/or that Retro is working on another project along side this.

Nintendo needs some "holy-shit-this-is-a-Nintendo-game?!" IP's.

That was my main problem with MP 2. Even though the atmosphere was excellent in both Primes, I very much preferred Tallon IV to Aether. I also prefer the Chozo to the Luminoth and the Ing.

and I know its a metroid staple... but this really works MUCH MUCH better in a 2dish game where you tend not to think about it/realize as much. The SAX justification sort of works ... - what, you ask?

If I have to go through another 3d prime where Samus' armor breakdown or she gets her technology stolen...

You are correct. Metroid Prime is one of my favorite GameCube games, but Echoes is awful. I almost killed myself because of the tedium of switching between the light and dark worlds.

Retro should either make an original game or a third-person Metroid.

There's always the option of NOT PLAYING IT :P

Metroid is my favorite franchise, but I tend to agree with the too much too soon sentiment, to a degree. I have a really sneaky feeling Retro is working on MP3 for GC, to wrap up the Prime trilogy (did you get 100% on MP2?) and an all-new IP for Rev. That's probably what Johnny's referring to. We'll see next week, but I would bet a ham sandwich on that.

if it's another metroid game, that suits me just fine.

after i finished prime 2 all i wanted was another metroid game. both were great (the first one was the best game this gen IMO... it was the gamecubes OOT) and i hope retro keeps busy on new games in the series... hopefully this one will take advantage of the revs special features and that might add some freshness for people who are sick of the style.

seriously, if its more of the same, I might pass. Looking like there are more games out there to play. I'd find it amazing though if they don't better Echoes. The amount of people already who didn't enjoy it in this thread is telling. I think removing the in/out mechanics will make the game about a bazillion times better.

Exactly! I am sure that Retro is focusing on this very thing. That was one of the most impressive aspects of MP and I am sure that whatever they've got in the works, it will amaze us just as much, if not more.

Metroid Prime was fun, but MP2 was more of a chore than anything else:

1. Light/dark world switch. Gave me headaches.

2. Having to clear an area of all enemies before advancing, even if you had already done so 40 times.

3. Very slow next mission/destination indicator. I was lost a few times and had to wait 10 minutes before the game showed me where to go and what to do next.

4. Finding the dozen keys in the end nearly turned me off completely. Had the areas in where they were hidden been highlighted on the map promptly, it would have been no problem, but as it stood, they were scattered throughout the entire world and it was a tedious process in acquiring them.

Since item collection/usage is so closely tied to progression in the game, I'm just curious as to what you would suggest otherwise. Not trolling. To me, that is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the series.

I do think the multiple planets thing would rock. Also, some wide open outdoor areas on planet surfaces, that you could really explore.
