analogues are way too close to each other.

People would hate it very fast.

The design just looks like a Pandora without a Keyboard.

Why no touchscreen? More input option is nice.

I was thinking about this the other week if Sony did a redesign of the Vita, and somehow made it a slider like the PSP Go and how that would work, so it would look sleek like a mini tablet (or Note) when you are just browsing the internet, watching media or running apps, then slide done the controls when needed.

Then I thought how would you use the buttons and use the touch screen comfortably. The way it is now, you still can slide your thumb over to the screen kinda easily if need be.

idk what I am saying now, haha. I really like the PSP Go though.

They should make a smaller Vita Go at like 4.2 in or something, and make normal Vita like 5.5 or 6 in or something, haha.
Yea, you'd need it to slide if you wanted to incorporate a touch screen. Something like this maybe.

...or, get rid of the entire top part and rely on "The Power of Imagination".

Having no buttons would make it the same as tablet/smartphone gaming which is not something I'd be interested in.

I'd like to see a handheld like this with a 4:3 320x240 OLED screen (I know, that seems silly) capable of playing all sorts of retro games flawlessly.

I suppose the PSP Go is actually pretty damn close to this as it does emulate many systems very well.

I want this:

Made a little bigger and with the screen pushed out to make better use of the space. Plus 4 face buttons. No touchscreen. SD or SD-type memory cards (ala the Vita) instead of a bulky cartridge.

This mock-up was made before the PSP Go was even announced.

Still, I'd love to see a handheld this sleek someday. But the bottom needs to be more comfortable.

I like those last 2 slider designs some.

I would totally buy something like that, if Sony would go that redesign route.

I feel like the Vita is already pretty close to this. Just not a clamshell design.

Also, why no touch screen?

I really dislike the wide PSP/Vita format. It's just too big.

The vita's announcement, with its form factor, made me decide to shrug and pick up a PSP Go instead. I love it. I'd prefer a clamshell like the DS or SP, but slider is okay.

The stupid rear-touch on the Vita really limits their options in terms of form factor. :(

I wish I had the PS skills to mock-up the Vita as a slider design somehow.

PSP Go is awesome :)

No...not if that design means it has circle pads or nubs instead of sticks. Yuck.

PSP Go with dual analogs and a rear touch pad would be pretty nice.

Lack of touch controls feels like a big step back. I'd rather have both physical and touch.

Why would you not include a touch screen? It costs nothing, you just have to add a layer to the screen, if your game don't need it, nobody forces you to use it. And for some games and some features it's a massive improvement (OS, keyboard, etc...), there is absolutely no reason for a 2012 portable hardware to not have a touch screen.

I always liked that mockup, really wish Sony could have done something like that for Vita.

Love the PSP GO form factor due to the portability. If I'm taking a PSP out of the house, the GO is what I grab but at home I'll still use my older 2K for the more comfortable ergonomics (for me).

Anyway, not a big fan of clamshells so I much prefer the slider shown later. And yea, it needs to have a touchscreen which would work great on the latter when closed.

No one wants a second rate console experience on a handheld. We've yet to have a portable that can actually match current hardware.
